The pilots who dipped their naval helicopters into Lake Tahoe in a juvenile stunt in September were trying to get photos for their command’s Facebook page, according to a Navy official.
Though no punitive actions were taken against the aircrew or squadron, the Navy has admitted the crew’s antics resulted in $505,000 in damages to the helicopters and says “administrative measures” are being implemented to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Posted on December 24, 2010 at 4:07pmMilitary guys do stupid things when they get bored or want to prove something. Husband = 32 years Army. Daughter = Air Force. Nephew = Air Force. Nephew = Navy. Brother = Marines. Son = Active Duty Army. The stories (& stunts) I’ve heard about make the hair on the back of my neck stand up & I cringe. These military heroes are strong willed, brave and physically fit. They will run into the face of danger when others run away. They blow off steam by doing really, stupid, dangerous stunts that they think are hysterically funny. & the price they pay is sometimes picking up leaves under a shedding tree by hand, one at a time, in Fall, on a windy day…or painting rocks… or using a toothbrush to scrub the supply room floor… or as Apollo18 said above, flying doggy doo out of Hong Kong. Hooah!

Report Post »Maverick: What’s your problem, Kazanski?
Iceman: You‘re everyone’s problem. That’s because every time you go up in the air, you’re unsafe. I don‘t like you because you’re dangerous.
Maverick: That’s right! Ice… man. I am dangerous.

Posted on December 24, 2010 at 12:58amFor your next stunt guys, I propose you secure an apple on top of your head and cut it in half with the spinning rotors.
No punitive damages? That’s fine, take the half a million out of their superiors salaries then. Well at least they didn’t cut an Italian ski gondola cable with their antics and kill innocents or charge their submarine up from the depths ramming a Japanese fishing vessel or oops, bomb a Chinese embassy.

Posted on December 24, 2010 at 11:40amThat’s the tactic…to clump all of these incidents together in order to cast aspersions on the military overall. He’s a progressive/marxist troll intent on using this venue to cause damage…He’s a fool, and completely ineffective, but that’s his right.

Posted on December 24, 2010 at 5:40amI personally authorized this “training” mission. It’s classified and crucial for national security. The Facebook story is a cover-up. They were feeding the Loch Ness Monster in the strange, ritualistic manner he has requested. We’ve been keeping him there since his flying saucer crashed near Roswell in 1947, preventing him from returning to his home planet. Dammit. Perhaps I’ve said too much…
