HACKENSACK, N.J. (AP) — Authorities in northern New Jersey say a small plane made an emergency landing on Interstate 80 near Hackensack.
New Jersey State Police say the single-engine plane was headed for Teterboro Airport but was forced to land on the highway because of a mechanical problem.
The plane landed in the eastbound express lanes. No injuries were reported, and it was unclear how many people were in the plane.
State police say part of the road has been closed while investigators check the plane. They say all lanes could be shut down when it’s removed.

Posted on February 1, 2011 at 8:17pmIf I know New Jersey drivers and oh yes, I know Jersey drivers, they probably drug the pilot out of the plane and beat the crap out of him for making them late to the diner. No mercy in Jersey.

Posted on February 1, 2011 at 3:05pmHe will probably get a ticket for stopping on he expressway. Hope he didn’t have a gun on board or he could be going to jail for a while.

Posted on February 1, 2011 at 10:43amUnfortunately, in the express lanes, there is very insufficient shoulder space to push the plane clear of the roadway to effect repairs without impacting traffic. Repair could be fast (a small part) and less expensive than dismantling plane to exit roadway through toll plazas. NJDOT could fashion a roadblock for a freeway takeoff. Been done before, and I’m sure that those states that have experienced this have shared the problem resolution with their peers.

Posted on February 1, 2011 at 9:05amWhat, no toll booth? He was lucky. Unfortunately it will cost him more than his plane to get the Jersey union workers to taxi the plane off the hwy.
