Planned Parenthood Responds to Gendercide Expose, Refuses to Ban Sex-Selective Abortion

Planned Parenthood Responds to Video: Wont Prevent Sex Selective AbortionThis morning, The Blaze brought you the undercover Live Action video showcasing a counselor at a Planned Parenthood in Austin, Texas, purportedly helping a faux patient who wanted a sex-selective abortion. Now, just hours after the disturbing video was published on numerous news sites and blogs, the controversial organization is responding.

In a statement to the Huffington Post, Planned Parenthood said that it does not discriminate against women who seek abortions, even if the basis for the procedure is gender. Despite this viewpoint, the organization did say that it condemns gender-based terminations. The Post has more:

A Planned Parenthood spokeswoman told The Huffington Post on Tuesday the staffer in the video “did not follow our protocol” for dealing with “a highly unusual patient scenario.”

“Planned Parenthood insists on the highest quality patient care, and if we ever become aware of a staff member not meeting these high standards we take swift action,” she said in a written statement. “Within three days of this patient interaction, the staff member’s employment was ended and all staff members at this affiliate were immediately scheduled for retraining in managing unusual patient encounters. Today opponents of Planned Parenthood are promoting an edited video of that hoax patient encounter.”

This spokeswoman for Planned Parenthood Federation of America also told The Huffington Post that the organization condemns seeking abortions on the basis of gender, but its policy is to provide “high quality, confidential, nonjudgmental care to all who come into” its health centers. That means that no Planned Parenthood clinic will deny a woman an abortion based on her reasons for wanting one, except in those states that explicitly prohibit sex-selective abortions (Arizona, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania and Illinois).

There’s no mention, though, of the regulations that Rebecca, the staffer named in the video, failed to follow properly. Here’s the original video that has Planned Parenthood on the defensive:

One could easily make the case that Planned Parenthood, pending the group truly is opposed to sex-selective abortion, could prevent women in all states from partaking in gender-based bias at its clinics. This is to say that if sex-selective abortions truly pose an ethical conundrum for the organization, disallowing them is an easy solution. It seems, though, that the group is only willing to take such a stand if the law requires it to do so.

LifeNews notes that Planned Parenthood followed this media appearance up with another statement that responds in more depth to the video expose. In it, Leslie Kantor, vice-president for Planned Parenthood Federation of America, provides insight on the situation and attempts to dismiss the video expose. In addition to claiming that the “entry-level” employee in the video was fired within days (as the organization told the Huffington Post), the group emphasized that Live Action’s video is “edited.”

“Recently, opponents of Planned Parenthood conducted hoax patient visits with hidden video cameras and are now using edited videotapes to promote false claims about our organization and patient services,” the statement reads. “In highly unusual and scripted scenarios, hoax patients sought services related to sex selection.”

LifeNews provides more from the release, which goes on to claim that Planned Parenthood stands firmly planted against gender bias:

“Gender bias is contrary to everything our organization works for daily in communities across the country. Planned Parenthood opposes racism and sexism in all forms, and we work to advance equity and human rights in the delivery of health care. Planned Parenthood condemns sex selection motivated by gender bias, and urges leaders to challenge the underlying conditions that lead to these beliefs and practices, including addressing the social, legal, economic, and political conditions that promote gender bias and lead some to value one gender over the other.”

“The world’s leading women’s health and rights organizations, including the World Health Organization, do not believe that curtailing access to abortion services is a legitimate means of addressing sex selection, and have made clear that gender bias can only be resolved by addressing the underlying conditions that lead to it. And we agree. We support efforts that ensure girls and women have access to economic opportunity, including fair wages, basic health care, political participation, education, and a life free of violence and discrimination. Planned Parenthood works to ensure women and their families have access to high-quality nonjudgmental health services free of coercion, supported by information and counseling.”

Conservatives who oppose abortion will surely find the portion of the statement that claims that Planned Parenthood works to help women achieve “a life free of violence and discrimination” ironic, especially considering that it is female babies who may sometimes undergo the violence of late-term abortion.

Needless to say, Live Action will surely have much to offer in response to Planned Parenthood’s statement. With more videos slated to emerge, the women’s rights group could find itself on the defensive once again in the coming days.

    Next on the PP agenda is sterilization. NEVER get yourself or your children tested for whether you are a carrier of a genetic disease. It will be on your permanent record, and I believe there will be a day when sterilization may not be optional. If you MUST go through the hospital system make sure they get as little info on you as possible. It is quickly becoming the world’s most in-depth database of personal information that may be used against you in ways you can’t imagine.

      One of the most egregious sins that a person can commit is the shedding of innocent blood. God told Cain that his brother’s blood cried out to Him from the ground. While sin is sin with God , nevertheless there are sins that set down consequences in the human blood line, called iniquities. There must be payment sooner or later. God does hold nations accountable for the sins committed by them as well not just individuals.
      Abortion is one of the most cold, calculated murders that can be committed, and there is nothing more innocent that an unborn child. If America does not repent and ask God for forgiveness then God may have no other choice but to allow America to be judged. Fortunately there is Jesus Christ; He is America’s way out of the hell she is preparing for herself.

    Is anyone really usrprised by this? China has been doing this for years. China also has so many males they are exporting them in droves.

    Where is NOW? I don’t know of one single instance where a male fetus would be aborted, other than a defect. Everyone knows that males are the perfered gender for children in most cultures, well in all cultures actually. I can’t think of a culture that values the female over the male.

The reason the male child in some third world country is more valued is a beast of burden and girls are limited to the home. Hey I am a man with 4 granddaughters and 1 grandson and love them with all my heart. And planned parenthood is not known for effective cancer screening how many have the equipment or oncologists on staff ? I bet the answere is zero. The make their money performing abortions on the tax payers dime. I have known nurses that worked for planned parenthood and told me the truth.

    The problem, though, is that they must first admit that they are human if they are assigning gender… and if they are human – GIRLS or boys – the abortion must be murder. If you are arguing that embryos aren’t alive/human, then gender selection should be legal. You can’t say GENDERCIDE unless you admit they are human and alive – otherwise you aren’t “killing” anything – which means that PP can’t argue that gendercide is horrible without arguing that abortion is also, and neither can lawmakers. Or can they? Didn’t we have these same discussions when it became permissible to charge a criminal with a double homicide if a woman is pregnant – but cannot charge a woman with murder if she kills her baby en utero. SMH

      Wrong. Sex of a baby could be determined within as little as 15 weeks. With blood tests being developed in the hopes of being able to determine within 6 weeks. Therefore, using your logic, the baby is “human” at 15 weeks. In that case, why be pregnant for 9 months when you can have it over with after 15 weeks? The reason is because the fetus is not human and would not survive very long outside the womb. So no, it’s not human.

      No question that late term abortions are both in violation of Roe v. Wade and opposed by virtually everyone. So no need to get fixated on that aspect here. As for reproductive decisions within the first and second trimester the law is clear. A woman can chose to have an abortion. It is her decision and the reason behind it are of concern to only her. Thus while the report provides an opportunity to churn up some anger, the specific issue is a mute point. Roe v. Wade is the best we can expect in terms of a framework, although the time periods needed to be adjusted downward due to medical technology.

      @JROOK – And that’s why this “gendercide” arguement is so tripe when spouted by supposed “pro-choice” people – anything ending in “cide” (a suffix) means kill/murder. (Homicide, patricide, suicide…) You have to fully embrace “cide” to embrace abortion and thus cannot argue it’s wrong to have a “faulty” reason. Why is gender an invalid reason and birth control not? If you are pro-choice, there’s no difference. They argue you should still have the choice. Which is why abortion should be called infanticide and treated accordingly – to prevent genocide, gendercide, and eugenics.
