CNN’s Sara Sidner appeared live from Tripoli to report on Libyan rebels capturing Muammar Gaddafi’s compound. As locals let loose celebratory gunshots, Sidner was grazed by bullet casings.
“Please don’t shoot, sir” she said to one of the men firing off rounds.
In addition, the report suggests that a reporter for Al Jazeera may have been shot inside the Gaddafi compound. Footage from CNN seems to depict the volatility of the situation on the ground, even as rebels take control of the area.

Posted on August 23, 2011 at 5:15pmAnd what did you gain from her creeping around and getting shell casings rejected at her? She could have just effectively had the cameraman take an pan of the area and then she could make her comments on what he shot. I think she was very inept and ineffective.

Posted on August 23, 2011 at 5:13pmMust be the latest thing in journalism. Pretend that you’re in danger. If you’re that scared honey, just come home and send a real reported over. Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t trust one of those Arab lunatics with a gun, but if you’re there to do a job, do the job and quit whining.

Posted on August 23, 2011 at 5:02pmThere‘s been so little ’truth’ coming out of Libya for such a long time, that it was interesting to actaully witness what was occurring in the compound.
Report Post »As for the posts thus far, I’ve learned nothing other than the fact that there are a lot of crass, disrespectful individuals who shared no actual information, but did manage to adopt the left’s name-calling, condescending DNA. You’ve all got some work to do…to earn back the respect and honor you had before you posted. You certainly don’t sound like patriots right now. Grow up.

Posted on August 23, 2011 at 4:54pmNo need for that, Sir. At this moment, you have lost both integrity or respect. Crawling into the mud pit with the left and their union thugs makes you one of them. I’m not proud of you right now, nor are the other patriotic Americans. We want to make the world better, while you seem to want to keep it the same.
Report Post »By the way, I learned absolutely nothing from your post other than you are crass and disrespectful. Name calling is part of the left’s DNA. It takes a much stronger and better person to rise above it.

Posted on August 23, 2011 at 5:01pmCNN seems to be in dire need of journalists that know what they’re getting into. Just like Lara Logan who wandered about Tahrir square in her euphoric haze over the “peaceful peoples’ revolution of the Arab Spring”..and was sexually assaulted by a pack of Egyptian men. Someone forgot to tell her that western women are seen as loose and easy by muslim men. Perhaps CNN should try to attract a better class of journalist and leave the intern-level idealists to MSNBC?

Posted on August 23, 2011 at 5:13pmDid you hunch over the first time you were shot at? I know I did. In fact, almost every time I was shot at I hunched over. What did you do the first time you were shot at? Pee, Crap, Puke or Shake. I shook afterwards. You should know better. At some point you were the FNG. Casings can’t kill you but they sure can burn you. Did you notice the “tribal marksmanship”? Shooting straight up in the air. The best I can recall, a round on the way down can kill the same as any other round.

Posted on August 23, 2011 at 6:11pm“The best I can recall, a round on the way down can kill the same as any other round.”
Not quite. The energy of a bullet coming down is a function of its weight and the force of gravity. The energy of a fired bullet is a function of its weight and velocity caused by the ignited propellant. A fired bullet necessarily has to have a force far above that of the gravitational force acting upon it.

Posted on August 24, 2011 at 9:37amIt has been stated that a bullet falling back to earth can do the same damage as a brick hitting your head from a height of 4 feet above you. May not kill you, but will definitely leave a mark and do loads of damage.

The station went “Black” about mid day after she said that…… So I know she went off the air lol
The way she was handling that gun, she may have shot herself and everyone around by accident. Have not heard anything else about her, but I just had to laugh when they said the “Station has now gone Black”

Cartridge (round), components assembled. Case (what this story implies), primer, powder, bullet. Spent – previously fired there is no longer a cartridge. Spent case (ejected), spent bullet-can be in the terminal flight stage with little kinetic energy, or lying on the ground, or falling out of the sky gravity +/- one forth ounce= about 30ft#. Hurt big time. Experts-(some government grant/study dudes that never are peer reviewed) say 60ft# is lethal. In one L.A. statistical production over 7 years (New Year) the number of injury /death from falling bullets 118 hits, 38 deaths.
