Pledge of Allegiance Debate Divides NY School District

An upstate New York school board is convening Tuesday evening and will hear community residents‘ concerns about the district’s current policy regarding the Pledge of Allegiance.
The controversy has grown in the North Collins school district and left some casualties in its wake, including Rosemarie Tridle who prides herself on being very patriotic and resigned from her two-year post on the school board in protest on October 26.
At issue is how students in North Collins Elementary School are reciting the Pledge at the start of each school day. Currently, morning announcements are broadcast over the school‘s intercom system and are immediately followed by a recitation of the school’s “character pledge.”
But when it comes to reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, only the first few words of the Pledge are recited by the announcer.
“From that point forward, the student [announcer] cuts out and each individual classroom continues with the full Pledge (of Allegiance) in their own classroom at their own pace,” North Collins Central Schools Superintendent Ben Halsey told WKBW. “So that kindergartners can say it at the rate and speed and understanding that they are capable of. And the sixth graders who are in the building can say it at the rate and the pace and the understanding that they are capable of,” he said.
But Triodl disagrees. “If this can be said as a group (referring to the Character Pledge), there is no excuse that our Pledge of Allegiance cannot be said as a group,” Triodl argues. “I’m 50 years old. The way it was taught to us, we stood as a group. The entire school stood as a group when we said it, and I didn’t understand every single word, but I grew to learn it,” she told WIVB.
Regarding her resignation from the school board, Triodl says, “I can’t be a part of a group that in my opinion does not respect the flag.”
Tridl is not not alone in her concern; over 250 people have signed a petition demanding that the school district read the Pledge of Allegiance in full each morning over the school’s P.A. system.
During a school board meeting planned for Tuesday evening, these upset residents planned to convey their concerns. “We are listening and we have given a lot of time to this issue. And we are not just casting it aside saying we are going to do it a certain way,” Superintendent Halsey says.
In the meantime, a school district committee is reportedly “studying the policy” and is expected to submit its own recommendations to the superintendent by the end of the month.

(((((SHOCKING)))))….the entire classroom said the LORD’S PRAYER…and it was a public school…GO FIGURE…my religion did not teach the repetition of the Lord’s Prayer, however, my mother instructed me that I WOULD show respect and say it AND the REALLY REALLY WEIRD part is that MY PARENTS actually took the time to teach me why my faith did not believe in the repetitiveness of the Lord’s Prayer and I WAS TAUGHT HOW TO ACTUALLY PUT TOGETHER A PRAYER TO GOD AND SAY IT ALL BY MYSELF!!!! Did I make fun of my Catholic friends who believed in saying that prayer? NOPE…sure didn’t…I would have been severely punished if I had! OH YEAH, we also began the day with the entire class standing and putting our hand over our little hearts and saying the Pledge…AMAZING…SHOCKING…

Posted on November 10, 2010 at 6:29amCollective education is designed to have us arguing with each other rather than fulfilling on the purpose.
It’s no accident, is it, that we spend too much money and education for too little return? We have expensive building and expensive administrators and our children have not learned anything but have become conditioned to conform with the collective.
Not my kids. Not in my America.
Teach your children well. With firm reliance on Divine Providence, teach them character. They are deliberately being dumbed down – they are the target of a lot socialist dreams. They are pawns in someone else’s agenda for them.
As in 1 Samuel 13, the Israelites had no weapons of war because they had to go the Philistines to get anything sharpened, so our children have no ability to reason because they have been educated in a collective to conform with a collectivist worldview.
It’s not an accident.

If you noticed in the clip the classroom had the words on the board and each one was definded. I would say that is pretty good. I did not have that when I was a kid. I said the Pledge of Allegiance in the 70′s every morning like every other kid, there was no coddling, you did it and if you were slower you eventually knew it so well you picked up and and got it. My daughter is in upstate NY and they have said it since pre-school and she knows it inside and out, I’m teaching her the Star Spangled Banner (inbetween her singing Juster Beiber songs) so she’s fine…

It’s also a massive and unnecessary drain on our economy. Not only is the money that is spent on education wasted money that’s stolen from taxpayers, but every time they want to raise taxes or justify the next insane pet project it’s sold to people as being for education or for our children.

I am also an Agnostic. Since the middle of high school, I stopped saying the Pledge in the morning. That was my personal reason against it, I did not like “Under God” in the Pledge. I was respectful while everyone else said it.
Now onto my point. I dislike mandatory pledges. It feels very Soviet Union to me. I have to pledge an allegiance to this country? Why? We’re a free society with various degrees of beliefs, whether it’s social or religious beliefs, hell, even nationalities. You’re free to even be Anti-American in my book. I think you’re a hypocrite for staying in America at that point, but to each his own.
The problem is, we no longer have a strict constitutional republic anymore. If we did, I wouldn‘t worry about people like George Soros or President Obama’s radical socialist ideals. They can be president, or own all the media, with a constitutional republic, they can‘t change the foundation of the nation but since we’ve destroyed the Constitution, we do have this possibility.
