Podesta: Obama Can Use ‘Armed Forces’ to Push Progressive Agenda

The liberal Center for American Progress doesn’t believe significant GOP gains in the House and Senate should stop the president from implementing more of his polices. The group released a report Tuesday suggesting ways Obama can bypass Congress to accomplish a progressive agenda, and it cites the president’s power as commander-in-chief to make its point.
“I think most of the conversation since the election has been about how President Obama adjusts to the new situation on Capitol Hill,” Center for American Progress head and former Bill Clinton Chief of Staff John Podesta told the Daily Caller. “While that’s an important conversation, it simply ignores the president’s ability to use all levels of his power and authority to move the country forward.”
How does one “move the country forward”? In the center’s report, Podesta explains that Obama can use executive orders, rulemaking, and even the armed forces “to accomplish important change” and that such means “should not be underestimated.”
What exactly does Podesta think the president should use such powers to “accomplish”? Among others, the report suggests “job creation,“ ”quality affordable health care,“ ”sustainable security,“ and ”a clean energy future.”
The report cites specific goals such as mitigating the effects of the military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy, supporting a Palestinian state, and reducing greenhouse gasses by 17 percent by 2020.
“The U.S. Constitution and the laws of our nation grant the president significant authority to make and implement policy,” Podesta writes. ”Congressional gridlock does not mean the federal government stands still.”
The Center for American Progress is funded by liberal billionaire financier George Soros.

They have a socialized medicine system.
They are about to let opennly gay members.

H.R. 5122, the John Warner Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2007, signed by the president on October 17, 2006, gives the president the power to employ the armed forces to restore public order in any state of the United States.
It is still another power given to the president in the name of the war on terrorism. In a worst case scenario, it would allow the president to use the military to suppress any kind of unrest.

Posted on November 18, 2010 at 4:45pmWhen I was in high school in the 50″s, the question came up in a government class (they had them then) as to what would keep the military from just taking over the civilian government. The answer was that they just wouldn‘t do it and the senior officers wouldn’t allow it.
I starts with the Admirals and Generals just saying “no” when told to attack the American population. They could be fired and replaced by a more compliant officers, but hopefully they will all say “no”, too. I would expect those officers to turn on the government before they would turn on the people.
Perhaps I am naive, but I just don’t see anything like that happening.

Congress funds the medical care for readiness, not social welfare, huge difference. WRT ABC comment that the USMIL has never said no, that is also false-there are hundreds of times the Leadership said no due to the Consttution or Executive orders that restrict the Military from action, mostly from requests to do operations within the U.S. Congress approved combat in Iraq (w/o their Constitutional requirment for declaring war, but still their power) with a larger approval margin the GHB had for Operation Desert Storm. This type of messaging will make it easy for any O’Donnell to win the highest office of the land in 2012. I would question, as do an ever increasing number in this country, if the current ‘commander-in-chief has any governing abilities at all. Should he try to exercise the powers suggested by these fools, it would soon be learned he has no power.

What would be stopping them, if after an order to turn on the people of the USA, the majority refused to do so, and POTUS found it necessary ”to protect the land” or some such nonsense to break up most of the armed forces down to just an internal security force.
I remembered him talking one time about the need to establish a civilian defense force or something like this. Could the Progressive support groups have been organizing such a force, even a small one to replace the military in part or full?

The key to all of this is either a violent event against a Government official or a economic collapse which would trigger civil unrest. The false flag idea is a very real one to consider since our Government has a history of it. We also have a very determined Left wing in this country who are not about the let their best chance of turning the US into a Marxist state slip away. OUR armed forces took a Oath to UPHOLD the CONSTITUTION.. and IN our Constitution it states that the Armed forces of THIS country CAN NOT be used AGAINST the citizens..NOW while the President can ORDER then to do certain things under a emergency our ARMED FORCES however.. also KNOW an emergency.. Now last week I was talking to one of those wonderful men in the Armed Forces here’s reality OVER 80% of those in our military are CONSERVATIVES who BELIEVE in the Constitution as it was written IF it came down to it they would PROTECT the PEOPLE from the GOVERNMENT.. now figure in how many American’s are armed not to mention the retired Vets who are ready willing and able to make up for the 20% of the military who many not stand up.. Now they could TRY to use another countries Armed Forces how do you THINK that would go over with OUR Armed Forces?? Ours would STAND UP and protect the CITIZENS as it would be considered an invasion.. So I am confused to the logic that is being used.. BTW OUR armed forces can not stand the current administration nor the PROGRESSIVE movement..

Report Post »You might be surprised at how many liberals own guns. I recently started reading a gun forum, and the number of people there that support the Presiden’t views truly shocked me. Not everyone, to be sure, but enough to really surprise me. I had always believed that people that own guns would be on the right side of the political spectrum, but apparently there are some left-leaning anarchists out there that feel differently.
Now if it ever (God forbid) came down to the President ordering martial law to bypass the will of the people and Congress, I think those liberal gun owners would experience a shift in reality. let‘s just hope it doesn’t come to that.

You need to read your constitution. States are specifically prohibited from raising armies and forming treaties. In other words, to secede. It was the slave states that usurped the Constitution because Lincoln and the radical republicans were going to repeal slavery and they knew it. And if you don’t think the civil war was about slavery, then you are also ignorant of history.

Government introduction of a pandemic through free flu nasal spray inoculations seems like the best way to start things off. That would cause a massive panic, martial law declared, and then troops would be called in to escort people out of their homes to “safer locations” namely FEMA (prison) camps. The effect would be two-fold: 1. Lock up everybody on the government’s “subversive” list – millions! 2. Focus the sheeple’s attention on saving themselves from deadly virus, and away from the militant takeover of the US.
With Martial law in effect and government takeover of all media, very few citizens would have any idea of what was going on, even after the tanks started rolling down the streets. The military would do what they were told, which would be keep peace on the streets.
