Poland: Vandals Desecrate Holocaust Memorial at Jedwabne Site Where Hundreds of Jews Burned Alive

WARSAW, Poland (The Blaze/AP) — Vandals desecrated a monument marking the spot in Poland where hundreds of Jews were burned alive during World War II, scrawling “they were flammable” and a swastika on the memorial.

The government, Poland’s Jewish community and Holocaust survivors on Thursday all strongly condemned the attack on the site, one of the most notorious cases in which local people collaborated with the Nazis in killing Jews during the German wartime occupation of much of Eastern Europe.

The monument in the town of Jedwabne (yed-VAHB-neh) honors the victims of July 10, 1941, when about 40 Poles hunted down the town’s Jews, shut them up in a barn and set it alight, killing between 300 and 400 people.

The vandals this week used green paint to spray the symbols of a swastika and “SS” – the name of an elite Nazi force – on the monument, as well as the phrases “I don’t apologize for Jedwabne“ and ”they were flammable.”

“I utterly condemn these acts of criminality, alien to Polish tradition,” Poland’s Foreign Minister Radek Sikorski said in a statement. “There is no room for such behavior in Polish society – even if it is the work of but a small group of extremists.”

Sikorski expressed solidarity with anyone affected by the act, and said he was convinced the perpetrators would be tracked down soon and face justice.

Poland: Vandals Desecrate Holocaust Memorial at Jedwabne Site Where Hundreds of Jews Burned Alive

Police discovered the desecration Wednesday during a patrol and are trying to find the culprits.

The head of Poland’s Jewish community, Piotr Kadlcik, called on authorities to crack down harder on anti-Semitic incidents, saying the desecration at Jedwabne comes after authorities have treated such cases with leniency for years.

The massacre came to light only a decade ago with the 2000 book “Neighbors: The Destruction of the Jewish Community in Jedwabne, Poland,” by sociologist Jan Tomasz Gross, which sparked controversy and soul-searching in Poland.

The book led to a government investigation that confirmed that Poles – and not Nazi Germans – were to blame for the killings. Poland’s then-president Aleksander Kwasniewski apologized for his country’s sins, but some Poles today remain in denial that such horrors were committed by their own people.

Meanwhile, Polish officials on Thursday were commemorating the anniversary of the German attack on Poland on Sept. 1, 1939, which marked the start of World War II.

Poland’s Chief Rabbi Michael Schudrich recalled that the swastika, the Nazi symbol, was both anti-Polish and anti-Semitic. He said the incident at Jedwabne does not reflect the sentiment of the country, but called on Poles to speak out strongly against such acts of hatred and anti-Semitism.

The American Gathering of Holocaust Survivors and their Descendants said in a statement they were “horrified” by the desecration.

Having just come back from Poland about a month ago, I can truly say I saw way more graphiti this year than last year when we were in the same places. It was shocking and very sad but it is a sign of the times that people are growing in anger. This is definitely more heinous than anything I saw graphiti wise while over there. What do these people think they are accomplishing other than proving themselves an @$$hat

Armenians? Really you mean the Iranians/Iraqis/Syrians/Russians, might as well ask why don’t we morn the Nazis, after all they fought along side with them and are the ones calling for the Caliphate.

Hey MIAMI. The Armenians were a christian minority in turkey. I seriously doubt they are calling for a caliphate. Maybe you should brush up on your history as well.

      Guess again

Armenians were spread throughout Turkey, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Iran, Georgia, Russia, Azerbaijan.

Yes, Armenians paid a heavy price as has my home land “Cuba”

The point is they have not been hunted from country to country for the last 3000 years for no other reason than to destroy every last person

Ukrainians? Ukrainians killed Ukrainians for ideology.

Cambodians? Cambodians killed Cambodians for ideology.

Rwandans? Rwandans killed Rwandans for tribal rifts and ideology

What were the ideologies they battled over? Communism, Dictatorial control and Class Warfare.

It’s not that their lives are less valuable or lack remembrance. Ukrainians are making strides. Cambodia is ruled by war lords, thanks mostly to Liberals. Rwanda may not be as bad as it was but it is also still ruled by warlords for the most part.

Jews are the only race of people that have been hunted merely for who they are through out history. If you have to ask instead of typing away on the computer, you should be investing your time on learning history.!

So The Turks killed the Armenian’s over ideology? Well Yeah the ideology of I hate the Armenians. Same as the Nazis killed jews over the ideology of hating jews for whatever reason. All these groups were killed over ideology. Thanks for making my point. They were all killed for stupid reasons and all deserve to be remembered, not just the jews.

The big difference would be the fact that it was a land War, the Ottoman Empire had taken land through battle as they purged the Armenian people through deportation and those who would not leave would make the ultimate sacrifice. Thus a land WAR!

We could also have a memorial for the unknown tribes, that Genghis Khan’s Mongol hoards would kill entire towns and cities to teach the next to not fight.

Funny thing is, that now the Armenians and Turks are united against Israel (Jews) in spoport of Hamas through the Flotilla…..

Ideology? Why not acknowledge the religious component in many genocides: Orthodox Serbs against Bosnian Muslims, Catholic Croats against Orthodox Serbs (during World War II), Turkish Muslims against Christian Armenians. Nazism as an ideology was anti-Christian, but you can bet plenty of Germans, both Catholic and Protestant, had been primed with tales of Jews feasting on the blood of Christian children well before the rise of Hitler.

This act of hatred against those millions of Jews who the Nazi’s killed during WW II is an act of blasphemy to their memory and their suffering. Those who did this act should be caught and punished and shown to the world as the haters they are. Any Pole who paints a swastika should remember that the Nazi’s hated Poles as “untermenschen” (subhumans) and made the Polish people a special object of their hatred of the Slavic peoples also to be exterminated or made slaves after they finished with the Jews.. We must remember for all time what the nazi‘s did to the jews yet where are the memorials today for the over 20 million Orthodox Christian civilians the Nazi’s killed in the USSR and over 2 million Roman Catholic Poles they also killed in Poland and the hundreds of thousands of other Christians all over Europe killed by Nazi’s the name of their hatred during WW II? Who remembers the Catholics killed at Lidice, Czechoslovakia? Are the over 900,000 Serbian Orthodox Christians killed by Nazi SS divisions AND Nazi MUSLIM SS divisions mentioned today in our history books? No. There are two forgotten holocausts in 20th century Europe. The first are the tens of millions killed by Lenin and Stalin from 1919 until 1952 and the 2nd is the Nazi holocaust of the Jews AND “subhuman” Christian Slavic people of the East from 1939 to 1945..

The Turks would have been happy if the Armenians had simply gone away, or been much reduced in numbers and scattered from their homeland.

Stalin would have been happy if the Ukrainians had been reduced to a helpless minority in a Russified, collectivized Ukraine.

The Khmer Rouge targeted city dwellers, intellectuals and others who did not fit in with their program of ruralizing and totally controlling a cowed Cambodian people.

The Nazis would not have been happy until every last Jew was dead.

It isn’t that Jewish lives are worth more than Armenian, Ukrainian or Cambodian lives, it’s just that the genocide attempted against the Jews was meant to be total biological extermination, not simply cultural annihilation accompanied by large scale bloodshed.

“The Nazis would not have been happy until every last Jew was dead.”

I think we are playing a little loose with the truth there Drako. Remember Hitler supported the Zionist’s aims of resettling in Palestine and encouraged it. Then he supported an effort to relocate them near the Pale of Settlement. Some report that they even considered relocating them to Madagascar. So what actually caused the change of heart of Drako? I’m sure you probably know. Can’t you be honest with the folks because you know the average Blaze reader is as dumb as dirt therefore they bow in obeisance at every word their Master Glenn Beck speaks because even though GB at one time encouraged them all to engage in critical thinking we all know that we are not suppose to use critical thinking when it comes to the Jewish issue.

Yes, many races have suffered grave persecutions.
Because the persecution of the Jews during the 20th century was stopped by a World War, several nations memorialize them, including the United States.
Now, according to the Bible, the Jews were often hunted down, persecuted and killed all throughout their history. The “peculiar people” God had chosen were always treated like a second or third class human. They suffered during Moses’ time, Esther’s time and during several other eras of humanity. They have a very long history of persecution.
By the way, the most horrific concentration camps were in Poland!!! Maybe, because of the Polish prejudices and hatred, the Germans expressed and exercised their prejudices and hatred to the fullest.

      Tech:

Yes, I know that during the early phases of World War II there was talk of facilitating Jewish emigration to Palestine, or to Madagascar, or to Siberia, beyond Operation Barbarossa’s initial stop line. Some think these were simply dodges or diversions, but I’m prepared to give the Germans the benefit of the doubt here.

From the end of 1941, however, these plans all went into the proverbial dustbin in favor of the “Final Solution” as we’ve come to know it. Ask yourself: if Rommel had driven through Egypt and into Palestine in 1941 or 1942, what would have been the likely fate of the Jews there? Surely Rommel, who we’ve been taught to regard as one of the good Germans, would have been overruled by some SS commander or other.

I’m inclined to think that it was the invasion of Russia that upped the ante, but perhaps even more the defeat before Moscow and US belligerency in December 1941. The reasoning must have been something like, “If we can’t beat the Jews of London/the City, Washington/Wall Street and Moscow/the Kremlin, then by God at least we can finish off the Jews we do have under our control.”

Meant to congratulate you last week, BTW, for rrecognizing Ilana Mercer as a “wonderful” woman, despite her Jewishness, but The Blaze cut me off.

I guess the train conductors compasses werent working correctly.

      That aside.

How can you even elude to such a statement when Hitler himself met with the Muslim Brotherhood to form a comprehensive plan to engineer the final solution? Muslims didn’t want them in palestine.

I’m always willing to say I jumped the gun and in the case of the above post thats what I did. Hitler did encourage Jews to Palestine. As from one of my own sources.

1936 Amin Husseini a central member and ideological inspiration for the Muslim Brotherhood. Mother organization for today’s Egyptian Islamic Jihad and Hamas
      Meets Hitler’s banker.

1937. Amin Al-Husseini visits Jerusalem German Consul. He meets SS Hauptschanfuehrer A.Eichman and SS Oberscherfuehrer H. Hagen to discuss “the Jewish question”. Amin Al-Husseini subsequently receives financial and military aid from Nazi Germany.

1941 Amin Al-Husseini in Berlin meets with Adolf Hitler and is active in the decision to exterminate all Jews through the infamous Final Solution
Hitler was reportedly content with deporting the Jews out of Europe to Palestine. Husseini perceived this as a threat to his stronghold in Palestine and pushed successfully for the extermination of the European Jews

As for my above post please accept my apology for a knee jerk reaction. I’m big enough to admit a mistake.

You forget that over 2 million Roman Catholic Poles were killed by the Nazi’s during WW II. The Polish people lived under SS rule and they had starvation rations and were treated like dirt by both the SS and german Army. Their schools, universities, and Catholic seminaries were closed. I want everything about this blasphemy studied carefully including the type of lettering used. Were there foreign liscense plates seen in the area before or after this happened? Berlin is now only less than 50 miles from the new post WW II Polish border and has a large Muslim Turkish population who can simply drive a few miles and cross the Polish border and do this sort of thing in order to smear the Poles and satisfy their lust for the Holocaust of the Jews they deny ever happened. This town is about 150 miles east of Berlin, an easy drive for immigrant Berlin Muslims or German skin heads.

      No, we don’t.

That some think we do is the best explanation for what I call HOS (“Holocaust Overload Syndrome”), a disorder whose sufferers get irritable and often irrationally angry whenever the subject comes up. (Ironically, their anger is usually directed at Jews!)

HOS is related to what psychiatrists call “Holocaust envy,” which is very common among Armenians, Ukrainians, African-Americans, Irish and others whose people have undergone genocide or something they can plausibly call genocide, which they don’t think gets the recognition it deserves.

There is no known cure for either these conditions, but deep and comprehensive study of history, fresh air and exercise have been known to alleviate symptoms.
