‘Pole Fitness’ for Jesus? A Form of Worship? One TX Woman Says ‘Yes’

Colosians 3:17 gives Christians a charge: “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” But I’m not sure pole dancing is what Paul had in mind.

But don’t tell that to Crystal Deans, who runs a program called Pole Fitness for Jesus in Houston, TX.

“On Sundays, we do pole fitness for Jesus,” Deans, a former stripper, tells My Fox Houston. “We do the upbeat contemporary Christian music because people have to bring their church program to get into the class, so we basically are just continuing the whole worship thing here.”

And she has a message for those who may look down on her class:

“Just to get past the whole stigma of the whole thing, I’m very Christian. I go to church every Sunday and I pray. I talk to God things like that I think there’s nothing wrong with what I do. I teach women to feel good about themselves, to feel empowered and we get in really good shape. God is the only person that judges so anybody who wants to judge me, feel free to but I’m good with God, so that’s what’s important to me and I really don’t care what people think.”

    Matt 24:10-12
10 At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, 11 and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. 12 Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold.

The increase of wickedness of this day and age is comparable to those of Sodom. And we all know how that story turned out.

Jesus will only forgive sins when you REPENT of them. That means to turn away from your sins. You must be Born Again and be Washed of your sins by His Blood. Jesus forgives us of sin when we turn to Him.

No, he did not want to do it initially. He asked Mary (his mother), Why are you involving me in this issue, it’s not my problem? Re-read the chapter and you will realize your interpretation is totally wrong. This item had more to do with Jewish tradition than not wanting a party to end.

This woman is confused and misdirected. She has been taught the touchy-feely, “cool” Jesus new-age Christianity. The “don’t judge me!” garbage. Someone needs to tell her that if you respect yourself, and love God, you don’t do “imitation sex” dancing.

I normally don’t feed trolls but your lack of biblical knowledge demanded this.

Yes premarital sex is condemned in the bible Paul says it in 1 Corinthians 7:2:
    http://biblia.com/bible/esv/1%20Corinthians%207.2

So is polygamy Christ himself condemns that one right in front of the Pharisees in Mark 10:2-12
Jesus tells them flat out that God intended marriage to be one man one woman from the beginning but Moses allowed it to shut the Jews up.

@Karama:”Yes premarital sex is condemned in the bible Paul says it in 1 Corinthians 7:2:”

Yes, right there it says premarital sex is wrong! Or, eh. Wait. No it doesn’t.

You can spend as much time as you want trying to find a relevant passage, but the issue isn’t actually addressed anywhere in the Bible.

“So is polygamy Christ himself condemns that one right in front of the Pharisees in Mark 10:2-12″

Again, your Biblical knowledge is inadequate. That passage talks about divorce, not polygamy.

By contrast, Levirate marriage was the basis for social welfare in ancient Israel, which basically meant you had to marry your brother’s wife if he died. This *required* polygamy to function. Read the New Testament at Matthew 22:23-33 – They pose a question directly regarding Levirate marriage to Jesus. Pop quiz: Does he say that Levirate marriage / polygamy is wrong? You answer the question.

My views are orthodox. If they anger people who don’t have a very good grasp on the Bible, so be it.

Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. 4 Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight I Peter 3:3

I’m pretty sure this falls under lascivious behavior which is clearly condemned in the Bible. Sure the body is to be a temple and we are supposed to take care of it but there are some lines you just don’t cross and fornicating with a pole would be one of them.

Eh… If you’re fornicating with a pole, you’re really doing it wrong.

Besides, lascivious behavior isn’t clearly condemned in the Bible. Specifically: adultery, prostitution, beastiality, homosexuality and orgies are condemned, to various degrees.

It is incorrect to claim that polygamy, pole dancing or even premarital sex are prohibited by the Bible. They’re not.

foobear — premarital sex is cool with God? You don’t think it falls under the category of sexual immorality or impurity? You must have missed that part where Jesus taught that if a person even looks at another with lust in his/her heart that they have committed adultery with that person in their heart (sin begins in the heart and mind and then can manifest itself further in behavior if acted upon). When one considers all the negative consequences (physical, emotional and spiritual) that sex outside of marriage brings, I can’t imagine anyone (except perhaps someone trying to rationalize their sin?) making the case that premarital sex is either neutral or even good.

@Lam2: “foobear — premarital sex is cool with God? You don’t think it falls under the category of sexual immorality or impurity?”

It‘s an issue I’ve studied substantially since being challenged by a friend to point out the passage against premarital sex. And I actually came to the opposite conclusion than what I was looking for.

In particular, consider the case of a pair of fiancees sleeping together before marriage.

There’s nothing in particular against this, though individual instances could be sinful. For example, a girl lying about her virginity is wrong, though presumably if she’d been sleeping with her fiance, he wouldn’t be feeling very deceived. Likewise, sleeping with another man’s fiance is considered a crime, but sleeping with one’s own, is not. Likewise, sleeping with a virgin and then dumping her was a fineable offense. But not sleeping with a non-virgin. And so forth.

“You must have missed that part where Jesus taught that if a person even looks at another with lust in his/her heart that they have committed adultery with that person in their heart”

How could I miss that passage? The Expounding of the Law is one of the most critical parts of Christianity. But if you’re reading that to mean that two unmarried people could somehow commit adultery, I have a bridge to sell you in Alaska. Adultery is very, very clearly sex between a married person (technically a married woman) and someone not her spouse.

Generally, modern day Christians have tried to argue against premarital sex by defining adultery as extramarital sex with a married person, and fornication as extramarital sex between unmarried people, but the word fornication is a modern invention, never appearing as such in the Bible. It’s a translation of the Greek word “pornea”, which you correctly translated as sexual immorality.

It’s a pretty big category, so if you look at examples of things defined as sexual immorality in the Bible, you’ll see warnings against temple prostitutes (both in the OT and NT), orgies, and so forth.

If you look instead at things considered acceptable in the Bible, these include Abraham sleeping with his handmaiden, Israelites being able to take female captives of war as wives / sex slaves (Deut 21:10-13), the Israelites sleeping with the foreign women (which was bad not due to the sex, but because the women were using the sex to lure the Israelites away from God), polygamy in general, concubinage among the Kings of Israel (David was castigated by Nathan for killing Uriah, not for having multiple wives), and so forth.

Draw your own exegesis from this.

Why wait for God to judge when all you so called Jesus loving *Christians* have already judged?

Why are christians so narrow and dirty minded?

Thank God I have never seen myself as God’s left hand knowing he does NOT need me to tell him what is right or wrong.

I just realized that it is not my doubt of God that is my problem, it is the know it all, better than others, I am right you are wrong people that profess to be believers.
I do not want to ever judge others simply because I *think* I am right.

Who is this woman hurting? No one.
But you all have your rules in place and heaven help anyone that strays from those rules.

I have love in my heart for others.
I forgive when others deserve forgiveness.
I help others from a sense of wanting to help not from earning a place in heaven.
I say what I see as the truth. If you don’t like my answers, don’t ask your questions.
I learn something new each day because learning should never end.
I remember that each of us is different. I don’t tolerate others…..I understand the difference.
I do not go to church…….and yet I have lived my life with truth, honor, love, and forgiveness.
I always try to understand that those who think differently than myself are still worth as much as I am.
Whether christian, protestant, Jew, morman, catholic, etc. etc., is not the God of each the same God of all?

If I ever commit a crime and need a jury, I prefer a jury of 12 atheists, with forgiveness and understanding in their hearts, rather than 12 closed minded better than me chistians.

      I have had enough here.

That will depend on how large of a gathering she continues to have; and how long the Almighty allows it to succeed or come to an end.

As the article states, the church members bring the program to them, so the final yea or nay will lay at the feet of the congregations themselves.

Just as with the previous article of married and unmarried pastors, it is the congregations who are the final chosers within any church; the pastor and his aids of the elders and deacons/deaconesses are the custodians and guides of the flock.

There’s nothing new here……….Deuteronomy 12:8 Ye shall not do after all the things that we do here this day, every man whatsoever is right in his own eyes. Judges 17:6 In those days there was no king in Israel, but every man did that which was right in his own eyes. Judges 21:25 In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes.
Just makes us look like very slow learners………..or non readers.

They just want to be Tax Free. By the way, James O’Keefe just asked for money to bail out his credit accounts, saying he will close down one Government Funded entity fro every $50,00 we send him. Maybe he could start a church and begin a religion of Breitbartism to save money.

Well, as long as people use their own “guidance” and NOT the word of GOD, there is no end to what people can conjure up and call “christian”. It is interesting how this woman only refers to what she feels or believes, yet claiming to know GOD, and not once does she use scripture to justify her “exercise program”. We are living in some very trying times and we as christians must constantly study the scriptures and compare this to what is out there and being called “christian”. We are not supposed to go by how we feel or what “I” think is right, but what our Creator says is right in HIS EYES. Paul the apostle said himself that we as followers of Jesus are to think of others. He himself said that he would not eat meat itself if it caused a weaker believer to stumble as he thought of the other person being more important than himself. There is a very wishy-washy false gospel out in this nation today basically saying anything goes as long as it has “christian”stamped on it. There are many churches packed out every week, with little impact around them due to this luke warm message being promoted. The word of GOD is to be are final authority, period… If this woman tries to say she does not care what people think, that is where her heart is, for “out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks”. I am not judging her, GODs word sheds the light on all falsehood and she herself will have to answer him face to face, just as I will……
