Police Arrest 2 Suspects in Oklahoma Shootings

TULSA, Okla. (AP) — Police backed by a helicopter arrested two white men early Sunday and said they would face murder charges in the recent shootings that terrorized Tulsa’s black community and left three people dead and two others critically wounded.

Police spokesman Jason Willingham said the two men were arrested at a home just north of Tulsa at 1:47 a.m. Sunday and were expected to be charged with three counts of first-degree murder and two counts of shooting with intent to kill in the spate of shootings early Friday. He said police made the arrests after receiving an anonymous tip.

While police identified the men as white and all the victims are black, authorities have not described the shootings as racially motivated and declined to discuss that issue Sunday.

Community leaders, however, expressed concern about the motivation for the shootings on Tulsa’s predominantly black north side, as well as the possibility that they would provoke a vigilante response. The Rev. Warren Blakney Sr., president of the Tulsa NAACP, said Sunday that word of the arrests had provided a great sense of relief.

“The community once again can go about its business without fear of there being a shooter on the streets on today, on Easter morning,” he said.


Police said they linked the shootings because they happened about the same time within a few miles of each other, and all five victims were out walking when they were shot. Four of the victims were found in yards, and one in the street.

Police have said they don’t believe the victims knew one another. They identified those killed as Dannaer Fields, 49, Bobby Clark, 54, and William Allen, 31. They declined to name those who survived.

“There obviously still is a lot of investigation” ahead, Willingham said Sunday. “We don’t have a motive at this time. We are still asking questions and hopefully that will become clear in coming days.”

He identified the men in custody as Jake England, 19, and Alvin Watts, 32, but gave no hometowns for them. He said they were taken early Sunday for questioning at a downtown Tulsa police station, where they would be booked and jailed. More details would be provided at an afternoon news conference, he said.

It was not clear early Sunday whether the men had attorneys.

Tulsa police had at least two dozen officers investigating the case, along with the FBI, the U.S. Marshals Service and other agencies. A special operations team and a fugitive operations group helped make the arrests, Willingham said. He did know whether the men were armed when they were taken into custody.

After receiving a tip, police found the men at one spot and then followed them as they walked to another place about a half-mile away, where they were arrested, he said.

“We’ve been on them since early in the evening (of Saturday),” Willingham said. “We had been doing surveillance and using a helicopter.”

Tulsa Police Chief Chuck Jordan had said Saturday that police would do whatever it took to apprehend suspects in what he called vicious and cowardly attacks.

    If that anonymous tipster knew beforehand about these shootings, he/she will be doing jail time as well. Anything regarding this case will be only be valid once it’s sworn testimony. I’m tired of chasing rumors and dizzy from spin.

      Will NBC, CBS, ABC electronically alter the video of these two men so it shows that they are innocent. Will the calls to 911 get altered. Why should we believe these tow white men are the ones who did the killing? We know now that the Obama controlled media and police departments will do anything to please Blacks, even arrest innocent men if they are white. This is Obama’s doing, pay blacks to shoot blacks and then arrest two white men and blame it on them.

      I want to state the obvious: This “white man” Jake who is the shooter, is obviously a Cherokee (Native American) and not white. This only matters due to the media with an agenda. Also his dad was shot by a “n____r”, I believe might have motivated him. Not that it makes things right.

    Based on research this morning I am going out on a limb. Yes it was racially motivated – Jake Englands father was killed 2 years ago by a black man while he was defending his daughter and grandchild from the thug. By the way Jake England is Cherrokee Indian – not white. Jakes wife committed suicide in January and the boy had some major demons. I think that it will come out that Alvin Watts was not involved in the shootings but was trying to help a “friend” get awy and will be charged with aiding and abedding. Just my 2 cents on this senseless tradgedy. God please be with all of those affected by this – and be with all blacks annd whites to not let this esculate the way the progressives want it to. Take it for what it is – a man with severe demons snapped and went on a rampage, senseless but knowing all of the facts lets one know it was done by a sick person that snapped.

The shooter breaks into this guys sisters place when when his father was there threaten to come back with a gun gets a gun shoots his father and got 4 years for murder.     Just like the Florida incident, no one knows yet about the details of this Tulsa case, so lets just allow the system to work and see what comes out of it.

    Regardless, no one of any color should be murdered while just out walking in their neighborhood. Murder is murder. Its not a “hate crime”. Its murder. Always has been since Cain and Abel.

    If anyone out there doesn‘t think this fraud in the WH isn’t aiding a abetting this racial disarray, then you should not be allowed to be around sharp objects. This is planned. It is contrived by those both white and black who hate this Republic and have other plans for the left overs once the Republic is no more. Too bad that blacks have been brainwashed all their lives to hate. Abused and lied to by their own “leaders”. Kept on the Democrat plantation.     If indeed these two murders are white, we all have to understand that no one made them go out and murder. They did it themselves.       The old anonymous tip routine. Probably, they traced all of the cell phones in the area at the time of the shooting and easily found the idiots who still carried their cell phone when they did this idiotic act. Or they just reviewed the past satelite imagery of the scene and traced them right back to their driveway. They do this all the time in big issues like this and more..

You are correct to point out the obvious intent by the authors to point out race when in cases of bIack violence the perps race is almost always intentionally left out of the story to protect one of the Left’s protected classes. It makes me wonder how the national media new ahead of time that two whites would be arrested for this crime when in 99 of 100 cases when this happens in North Tulsa, it is black on black gang violence and nothing to with race.       We don’t even know (yet) if they’ve truly caught the right men. Time will tell. They likely arrested them on a “tip” – could be one of those anonymous tips. Are they really guilty or are some people trying to use them as scapegoats?

      Right now, we really don’t know yet.

      People don’t seem to want to wait anymore for facts–they want “instant answers” all the time and aren’t patient enough for a true investigation. Then people get mad when a case has been “botched” and the guilty go free while the innocent are punished!

      The news accounts I have been reading/watching, some have said drugs “may have been a factor”. The thugs, one the other hand, have had active warrants for their arrests and rap-sheets for prior convictions.
      Starkville, MS is a college/party town, so of course there will be a demand for drugs in the area….and believe me, there are a-lot of drug busts that happen there too.
      I most likely would have gone to school there had I not moved out of state. The city does have its problems and is obviously getting worse by this murder inside MS. State itself.

      My rational DOGGY is that there are racists from both ends of the American sprectrum, and those of us caught in the middle (rational, Conservative… clear thinking Americans who want a united America).

      There are only TWO men in American politics right now (one who IS President, and one who wants to be) that attract racists, bigots and anti-semites more than anyone ever before. Actually, I take that back. Ron Paul has been pandering to the above mentioned long before there was an Obama. So any Paul supporter who stands at the bully pulpit and talks about others fanning the flames of racism needs to look inward and ask why that is?? What do these two men have in common?

    I hope people will wait for a full investigation of all the facts in this case before rushing to judgement.
    If the ones arrested did do this crime I want them prosecuted in a court of law not in another media inspired circus of lies and speculation.

    I can feel the anger in America rising to fever pitch. Please, everyone pray for cooler heads and reasoned discussion to prevail. We are fast approaching the tipping point of no return.

      Momrules, honestly–except what we hear on the media (and even on The Blaze at times), I‘m not feelin’ this “fever-pitch anger.” I’m sure it is among some people, but after the thing about NBC came out, I sensed it was like having cold water thrown on a hot fire (at least with some). I am “in touch” with some youth (via my daughter) who were pretty incensed at first by the entire thing, but it‘s as if some are beginning to realize they’ve been played. So this may not be going quite as well for those who WANT to stir people up than they’d actually like–although we’ll likely see this magnified in the media as such.

      Be careful folks, lest we are ALL played. Things may not be as they seem–and in fact, they probably aren’t.

      Talk with people–find out. Talk with people of all colors. If they haven’t heard, let them know how NBC was deliberately deceptive.

      The media is being used, IMO, to TRY to start things. They are being used by those with agendas. So any crime out there (which likely happens every day of the week) may be attempted to be used as “the poster crime” to incite violence. Even those on The Blaze–the writers, editors here should be careful what they believe, what they report, what they pass along. . . IMO.

      @justpeachy – I appreciate your thoughts and I‘m glad to hear that people in your area aren’t as “crazed” as people in other areas. I agree people should talk rationally about the things going on in our country. What disturbs me most is the rapidly increasing levels of anger & frustration from people in the middle. Not people who are radicals, racists, zealots, polorized by politics etc – just everyday folks. I’ve never seen anything like it. And it’s happening all across the country. People can’t contain this level of emotion forever. Sooner or later something will trigger a major eruption and when that happens I’m afraid cooler heads may not always prevail. “The voice of reason is easily silenced by the roar of anger”. I don’t remember where I read that or who wrote it but it is true.

It’s drug related,2 Induced hate crime.3Revenge act.There are more possibilities,but will we find out the truth,this is a supposed “white” on “black” crime,if indeed it is a retaliation act,then who do we blame,odumbo, sharpton, nbp’s?       Thank you, Grimmy, for pointing all of that out. This story JUST BROKE and already people (including on this board) seem to be jumping to conclusions!

      It may OR MAY NOT be race related.

      Just for once, can we all just WAIT for ALL the facts to come out? It may take awhile. . justice seems to move slowly, but we need to let it work. Let the authorities do their jobs.

      I do hope they have caught the right men because it means they’ve at least gotten them off the streets.

      Jake England’s life was a mess. His father was killed 2 years ago by a black man (shoot in the chest) while defending is daughter and grandchild. Jake’s wife committed suicide in January leaving him with a newborn. Jake is Cherrokee Indian. It appears that he had a drinking problem at this time. The other guy Alvin Watts seems to be a friend that was trying to help him out and may not actually be involved in the actual shootings – time will tell. Was the murder racially motivated – probably based on the fact that Jake could not deal with the murder of his father 2 years to the day ago. The boy had some major demons!!! God Bless all of the people involved in these senseless tradgedies…
