Police Arrest 65 Environmentalist Protesters in Front Of White House

Dozens of environmentalist protesters have been arrested outside the White House on the first day of a planned two-week protest over a proposed oil pipeline from Canada to the U.S. Gulf Coast.
Park Police spokesman David Schlosser tells WJLA-TV that 65 people were arrested Saturday. The protest is scheduled to run through Sept. 3.
The protesters want President Barack Obama to deny a permit for the 1,700-mile Keystone XL pipeline. It would go through Montana, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas to refineries in Houston and Port Arthur, Texas.
Protester Gus Speth, co-founder of the Natural Resources Defense Council, told the Wall Street Journal the pipeline would continue the nation’s reliance on fossil fuels.
TransCanada says its pipeline would provide jobs and needed oil.

They dont want people from another country coming into Nebraska and basically stealing their land out from under them and the Obama administration is doing nothing to protect Americans from losing their land. Heck, Obama’s practically handing the land over himself.
There probably were a few people at that protest who didnt want the pipeline going over the Ogallala Aquifer either. (That’s where Nebraska and a few other states get their water from)

Are they ready to go back to the 1700′s and use horses, gotten clean up after them, burn wood, oh not cutting down trees. Maybe they want to be cave dwellers using leaves and spinning their own clothes out of cotton. Can’t these people read. Maybe a good history lesson or maybe take their cars, heat and air conditioners away. As for the farmer’s land issues, the oil companies should have to buy that land at a reasonable (market) price, not have it taken through emminent domain. The pipeline is not a “pulic ”use, it is a commercial enterprise. Just a thought, maybe they could bury the pipe and just rent the land from the farmers, who could still plant above the pipe. I’m just a dumb old contractor, but that could be a win win.

I have seen yarn and clothing made from soy, and yarn made from corn. But it’s extremely expensive, so apparently the process is more complicated, read takes more energy than it saves.

You are mistaken in your view that we will be taking oil from America. The pipeline is to send CANADIAN oil down to the US for refining. Yes you will get refining jobs from the deal, and a dependable source of oil from a stable non muslim country.
The reason I am against this is that I believe that WE should be refining the oil and then sending it to the US.
I cannot speak to any eminent domain issues in the US.
I can say that many jobs will be created in the US and Canada through this deal.
By the way did you know that up in Alberta we have close to 2 TRILLION barrels of oil that we can supply to refineries on your east coast?

Anyone want to figure the odds of either Mr Obama shutting the plan down before it even commenses, or wait until it is well financed and at the point of no going back then gutting the project so all the investers in it lose all investments?

Canada has more oil than they know what to do with within their land. northern canada is rich with resources…
