Police Blame Neck Massager in Bizarre Florida Strangling Case

A Florida woman reportedly died Christmas Eve after authorities claim she was accidentally strangled by an electronic neck massager.

Kenneth Gegerson called 911 after finding his wife, Michelle, 37, lying on the floor of the couple’s bedroom next to the massager. Paramedics say she was dead at the scene and authorities believe her necklace somehow tangled in the massager and quickly tightened around her neck.

According to Broward County police reports, the woman had spent the evening wrapping Christmas gifts and getting ready for work while using the massager to relieve some neck pain. At this point, detectives have not specified the type of massage device she had been using, saying it’s still an active investigation.

Michelle Ferrari-Gegerson worked as an emergency room radiologist at Jackson Memorial Hospital and leaves behind her husband and their 1-year-old infant, the Miami Herald reports.

It seems strange to me that if her husband was in the house that she didn’t try to get help when the thing first started strangling her, or is that just me thinking crazy. May God Bless.

It’s a shame for this to happen and to leave a little baby behind too. No matter how it happened it is heartbreaking for her family and friends and my prayers go out to them.

On another note, it probably won’t ever happen again after Obama and his Czars ban all massagers. Unless of course they can figure out a way to make these massagers attack only conservatives and people who love freedom and truth. Then we better look out for our lives.

If it’s the kind of massager that actually moves rather than just vibrating, and it’s a strong necklace (maybe leather / rope) I can see it happening.

    Freak accidents happen.

Just last night as I was putting a powerful massager on my shoulder, the motor caught my hair and before I could turn it off, it had pulled a huge hunk of my hair int the casing and stalled the motor. I couldn’t get free for anything! We couldn‘t remove any part of the massager and couldn’t pull my head free. It took 20 minutes of pulling to finally get a par of skinny scissors between my scalp and the machine! My daughter had to cut me loose! Horrible feeling to have no control over the machine. I was glad the motor cut off or it could have been worse. We hear about girls with long hair getting drowned in hot tubs with their hair caught in the drain….I can see why now. You can’t get loose! I feel for the family of this young mother. I have no doubt it could have happened exactly that way!!!!

In the excitement of catching a fish, I got my long hair wound up in the reel. Before I realised what had happend, it was up tight against my ear and not budging! I was so intent on catching the fish, I ran backward up the bank till the fish landed on the beach. It took me almost 2 hours to get my hair out. I almost gave up, and was going to hack it of with my hunting knife, but just couldn’t stand to loose all that hair! I have also gotten my foot caught and hurt in a damn foot massager. If you don’t hold the foot in a flat position the roller balls can catch the foot and pull it in at an angle, then the rollers crush the top of your foot. That hurt!

We have a Homedics AC powered neck massager. The little bumpy twirlie thingies that rotate inside are pretty powerful. Not out of the realm of possibility to think the fabric could chafe a hole or something and a necklace get caught up in it. Remote, but not inconceivable.

I want to know what kind of necklace is that strong. Most of them I see would fall apart if you sneezed real hard, and they sure aren’t strong enough to strangle someone.

This is a good thing to remember if I can remember it rite. The Vega Nerve is on the left side of the neck a little below the ear lobe. If you massage it, I dont remember if it was clock wise or counter clock wise or maybe it doesnt matter but if you massage it just rite it will stop your heart. I think in some cases of VT they use this as a last resort. Worth checking out on a site. Vega nerve. Iwouldnt let someone massage my neck on a bet.

This would be the Vagus nerve. Stimulation drops the heart rate and blood pressure.

Two women in Japan (or China?) were also said to be strangled when they tried to use a foot massager on their necks. Never seen one so I’m not sure how they work.

Unless she was standing on the dresser with the cord rapped around a ceiling light fixture while relaxing this seems highly improbable.

That it doesn’t make sense: a massager vibrates, it takes at least 3 minutes to strangle someone, at least 2 for unconscious state. Was the knecklace made of hemp or leather or something of great strength. Lets make believe it got entangled if it possible #1 turned off the device, #2 have the strength to some how remove the device from the knecklace? Or maybe she was a dimwit. I have trouble believing it was an accident. God bless her soul.
