Police Brutality? Video Shows Tennessee Cops Beating & Tasering Naked Man

The FBI has joined an investigation into a police beating that left one man with four broken ribs and a punctured lung in Waverly, Tenn.

Four police officers engaged Darrin Ring, 34, after responding to a call reporting gunshots in the area. Instead of finding gun trouble, officers stumbled across Ring, intoxicated and unarmed.

Officers reportedly became fed up with Ring after asking him multiple times to take his hands out of his pockets.

They turned to force to get their message across – even using stun guns repeatedly and dousing him with pepper spray over and over.

They stripped him of his clothes, put him in handcuffs, pushed him down into the snow.

One officer claims Ring tried to kick him in the groin area and poke his eye.

The picture below shows an officer raising him arm to take a swing at Ring, who’s naked legs are visible on the ground on the left side of the image.

Tennessee Man Darrin Ring | Police Brutality?

So how did anyone find out about this in the first place? A video camera on the dashboard of one of the police cars recorded the entire conflict. This video shows selections of the whole exchange that The Daily Mail reports lasted for about 10 minutes.

Ring spent five months in jail on charges of resisting police and three counts of aggravated assault on a police officer after the attack. He couldn’t afford to post bond. His situation became less dire earlier this month when a public-appointed attorney, Jake Lockert, found and released the video. On July 11, the district attorney dropped all the charges and released Ring.

According to a report from The Tennessean, the officers involved in the arrest, Humphreys County deputies Tim Hedge, James McCord and Benjie Lee and Waverly police officer Joe Parnell have been placed on leave. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation also launched an investigation in July.

“I’m glad the FBI and the TBI are taking this matter seriously,” Lockert told The Tennessean. “My hope is that based on this investigation, Darrin Ring will be exonerated and that the officers involved will at least be decertified and not carry a badge and a gun again.”

We need to get involved at the local level and let the local government know that this kind of abuse will not be tolerated. This looks like a scene out of the movie Deliverance. I cannot imagine why anyone needs to conduct themselves this way – it has nothing to do with law enforcement. No matter what someone has done, the way he or she is treated is a reflection of the person engaging in the treatment, not the recipient of the treatment. All law enforcement employees on every level should undergo random drug and alcohol screening as well as – at this point – forensic psychological evaluation!

Cops like this make me very ashamed to admit I’m a retired law enforcement officer. I see more and more evidence of crap like this not only continuing, but seem to be escalating. These guys don’t know how to enforce without the sticks, kicks, and tasers. What, have training standards been lowered that much??

What an absolute disgrace! The police officer yelling and striking the man should be arrested immediately. He should be charged with assault and torture. If I were the police chief I would call him in to my office and fire him on the spot! What is this country coming too? so very sad we have these criminals infiltrating the police force. I can’t imagine what the other officers are doing here, if I were one of them I would have gotten extremely mad at him and put a stop to this.

Ask yourself what you would do if you saw policeman beating and tasering someone. There were at least 2 family or friends there watching the police take out their personal frustrations in life.

As Americans, we better start getting a grip.

All he had to do was keep his hands out of his pockets. His failure in this simple request escalated the situation to where he was forced to the ground, again refusing to simply roll over on his stomach. The whole thing would have been better if he had done what he was told.
The fault lies with the tazed man.

Even the good cops can’t protect you. They take names, get several points of view from people who really do not know what they saw and draw lines around dead people. The only real protection is self protection. (Staying sober helps with the whole self protection as well.)

For one thing, we would be better off if there were no cops. Then the people could “take out the trash” and clean up our society without the threat of being arrested and jailed for it. The “justice” system in no different than any other govt entity. It exists to take money away from the people. That being said, there is a movement afoot today by punks called “goad the cop” or “get the cop to kick the crap out of you” so you can hit the cop lottery jackpot. This punk was obviously trolling for the cop lottery. He got what he deserved for a second there. Then, the cops went overboard and played right into his hillbilly hands. Ha ha ah ha ha ha. Ya just can’t keep a good jack booted thug down.

My cousin is a police officer. He said the longer they stay in the job, the more disassociated with society they become. He actually said there are more bad cops than good ones and the bad ones end up dragging the good ones down with them. My best friends husband is a detective in San Bernadino County in CA. He says there are two kinds of cops, those that join for the power trip and those that have a cause. Luckily, his was a good cause as was a good cop, now a great detective.

And if he was drunk, most people put their hands in their pockets because they don’t know what else to do with them. Drunk, he probably didn’t remember the officers asked him not to. There is no job so stressful that it warrants this type of behavior. Until these cops start getting treated the same way criminals do they won’t stop. I say it again and again. Power corrupts and cops have too much power. If the police departments don’t change the way they enforce the law citizens are going to have no problem taking bad cops out in civilian justice. Is that what the police force wants? Maybe, they do.

A pro-constitution police organization of active and retired police took a survey of police in order to determine their mindsets now.

One of the questions was, “What do you think your duty is now as a police officer?” Only a very few constitutionally aware officers said their duty was to protect and serve the public. The rest had various reasons that ranged from “Keeping the restless natives in line,“ to ”Protecting the government.”

The oathkeepers.org are the best of the military and police in this nation, but there are too few of them.

The majority of police see themselves as the public’s overseers. This bunch had better change their attitudes, however, because if the balloon ever goes up in this country these dorks will be completely overwhelmed and neutralized in a heartbeat.

The police have power, because we elect to give them power. Once we no longer feel such a policy is to our benefit they won‘t amount to anything more than a flea on an elephant’s azz.

Actually the tazer was not supposed to be used as a “compliance” tool, it was originally designed and implemented as another level of force before having to use “lethal force”. The tool is a great addition if used correctly. But to many pigs have started using as more of a compliance device instead. I wouldnt have stood around and watched this happen. If you dont show them who is boss now, the problem is only going to get worse. it might soon be someone you know and care about. What will you do then ??

The taser incapacitates the victim for several minutes. The man could not obey the commands. I hope that guy gets a LARGE award. Those police were TOTALLY out of line and should have to undergo some anger management training before being allowed to work again.

I understand that police have a VERY difficult and VERY dangerous job, but this guy was clearly on drugs or retarded… I mean something was wrong with this guy and the whole “roll over on your stomach” routine for minutes on end with baton strikes, tazer shocks and leg kicks simultaneously…especially when he said “I can’t” (probably from the tazer shock)… they could have just rolled him over themselves… This was all about CONTROL, do as I say…

The police were wrong on this one and on the heels of the other incident where the policeman threatened to “put two in your chest with my Glock 30” this does not look good for the police profession. I happen to know a lot of good cops that would NEVER act this way, so it’s sad that a few bad apples can ruin it for the good ones.

They’ll probably just end up putting even more restrictions on the police officers because of this…there needs to be internal policing to force the bad apples out.
