Police: Colo. Shooting Suspect Has ‘Lawyered Up,’ Not Cooperating

(The Blaze/AP) — Police in Colorado say the suspect in one of the worst shootings in U.S. history is not cooperating with authorities.

Aurora Police Chief Dan Oates has said that 24-year-old James Holmes has “lawyered up” and is not talking.

Holmes was arrested Friday after a gunman opened fire during a midnight screening of “The Dark Knight Rises,” killing 12 people and injuring 58. He has been appointed a public defender and is scheduled to make an initial court appearance on Monday.

CBS has video of Oates’ update, with more information:

One of the overnight speculations that Oates addressed was whether Holmes may have had an accomplice of some sort.

A witness from the theater says he recalls seeing someone check his phone before the shooting, and then go to the exit door, where Holmes reportedly entered.

“So he went out toward the emergency exit doorway, which I thought was unusual to take a phone call,” the witness explained, “and it seemed like he probably pried it open, or probably did not let it latch all the way.”

He continued: “As soon as the movie started, somebody came in, all black, gas mask, armor, and threw a gas can into the audience, and it went off, and then there were gunshots that took place.”

But Oates says the police are convinced that the shooter acted alone, even after investigating an unnamed “person of interest.”

“All the evidence we have, every single indicator, is that . . . this was all Mr. Holmes‘ activity and he wasn’t aided by anyone else,” Oates maintained on Face the Nation.

“We’re building a case to show that this was a very deliberative process by a very intelligent man who wanted to do this.”

Oates also warned that it could take months to determine a motive and police are working with FBI behavioral analysts.

    This man is no more crazy than any of those on death row. This man planned this for months and is one of those jealous, envious and malicious people who wanted to learn something that is not going to bring him a job any time soon. He is taking his anger out on the American public just like Obama and cohorts do who try and destroy this country. The difference the guns are not turned on the American public just yet by the Obamaites because there are some out here who will stand and fight with their own guns. They want all the guns taken up so the playing field will not be level. They are the types like in the Mid East who beat and abuse the women and make war when they do not have to stand toe to toe with all those they perceive as the enemy (that being everyone who is not Muslim or practicing Islam.)

      I agree with you, moreover I think that this was a planed propaganda operation made by Obama’s most radical operatives. Sounds crazy? Read any history book, communists always use this kind of tactics.
      A British newspaper was reporting that Holmes was a member of OWS black bloc, a few hours later they removed that information. Why? Were they threatened by Obama’s political police? Google has erased all records related to Holmes. Why? Do an online search on someone his age and you will find all about that person, not in the case of Holmes.

      This was a distraction and propaganda operation aimed at reelecting Obama. It’s horrifying to think what other atrocities will they do until November.

Red flags everywhere on this. Dhs NSA and FBI make a bigger deal out of (Americans) domestic threats than foreign terrorists. Supposedly the joker was off the radar? This was a surprise? If they are monitoring emails and phone calls, they would have known he ordered thousand of rounds on the web, bought tear gas, bought guns, body armor, and probably learned bomb making on the Internet.       For crying out loud, he didn’t go through a *locked* security door. According to reports, he bought a ticket, walked in throught the front door like anyone else (unarmed), entered the theater, and sat in the front row. 15-20 minutes later he gets up and heads to the back exit, apparently pretending to make a cell phone call. He opens the back door, props it open, and exits. He can do that because it is not locked from the inside; that would be a fire hazzard. They are really emergency exits. After propping the door open, he goes to his car and drives it up to a spot near the door. He suits up, grabs his weapons and reenters the theater using the door he propped open earlier. He thought outside the box.

      Not all of the end doors beep. I often exit that way to the parking lot. Theatres send the crew in to do a quick sweep up — get rid of the big pieces of trash – betw showings and check for stay-behinds.

      1. We don’t have the proof yet but Holmes may be a member of Black Panther and ACLU. Holmes is a member of the Democrat Party in good standing.
      2. It is believed but there is not proof that Homes has written several letters to Barbra Boxer and the White House.
      3, There isn’t proof but suspected un-known sources state that Holmes contributed alleged large money donations to the Obama re-election campaign.
      4. It cannot be verified but a man matching the description of AL GORE was seen running from the theater just before the shooting started.
      5. Police will not discuss or verify that there is no proof that cell phone calls to Hillary Clinton had been made from a cell phone in the theater just before the shooting started.

      The booking photo probably shows a demented individual like that guy who shot Rep Giffords. He likely has that dyed red hair and looks like a freak, unlike the college ID photo we see on the tube.

      If the lawyers is smart, he will plea it out to LWOP and call it a day. Seriously, if you cannot establish mental incompetency, taking it to trial would only get your client executed. The lawyer‘s job is to provide best advice to the client and protect the client’s rights, regardless of guilt.

      As much as I loathe what this man has done, I’m still glad we have the legal system that we have. Summary executions may work on the battlefield, but they move us closer to the defunct Soviet Union or Nazi Germany than most of you want.

My first thought, he’s going to try and get off on an insanity defence. They say he’s “super smart.” Obviously he’s clever. He thought outside the box in planning the massacre.
