Police in Riot Gear Use Tear Gas to Break Up Violent ‘College Fest’ Crowds at Kent State

Police in Kent, Ohio deployed tear gas and flash-bang devices to clear out large groups of students near Kent State University after fights broke out at an annual “College Fest” celebration Saturday night.
Students attending the party reported beer bottles were being thrown and that ambulances were called to the scene, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported.

Cleveland NBC affiliate WKYC-TV reported some of the 3,000 attendees threw beer bottles at police officers and that the Kent Fire Department was dispatched after a couch was set on fire near a roadway.
There were also reports of a man with a gun at the gathering, though police didn’t find anyone, according to the Kent Record-Courier.
A Kent State spokeswoman told WKYC the university was “closely monitoring” the events and “supports the city in its efforts to keep celebrations safe for everyone involved.”
Most of the partygoers were cleared out by 8 p.m., the Record-Courier reported. At least four people were believed to have been taken to local hospitals as a result of injuries.

Report Post »I am voting in Nov 2k12 only because I want future generations to have a future free from tyranny. I never had children, but I care about “all” citizens and especially the young. If Pres Obama is re-elected, well, the young will adjust for awhile and then years down the road…it doesn’t have to be but the young do not want to listen and will suffer the consequences.
My thoughts & prayers are with all the law-abiding citizens that will have to endure this madness in the larger metropolitan areas. Damages will be in the millions. What a shame.

Of the Communist leadership in the earliest days, EVERYONE ended up being killed in the purges that followed except for two or three people. Of the 2 or 3 million average Communist guys in the earliest days of the party, more than 1 million were killed.

As a current college student at a public university, I could only laugh at your remarks toward higher education. First of all “torturist” isn’t even a word, and then you go on to describe public universities as: “commie, country hating, race-baiting professors… Socialist Indoctrination Central”?? Clearly it has been quite some time since you’ve stepped on a college campus. The entire point of going to college is to expose yourself to new knowledge, new people, and new ideas. To stimulate the mind, to (gasp!) question your previous beliefs/knowledge that maybe, just maybe, there’s another explanation.
I can speak from experience that these so called “commie, country hating, race-baiting professors” are merely reacting to an increasingly competitive global arena, and doing what they can to prepare young Americans for a the modern day world.
You want to know who studies the most on my campus? The foreign exchange students. Engineering, science, math, technology majors? Majority of them are foreign, most of them Chinese. It’s sad because I see way too many American students at my school who are merely here to party, get their “MRS.” degree, and not actually take advantage of such a wonderful opportunity to actually gain significant knowledge.

If your posts are directed at me, I must let you know that I am not an “indoctrinated scrooge” nor have I been a “communist for long”. I’ve studied journalism which has taught me the importance of ALWAYS going to more than one source for information, and verifying, and reverifying that information (by the way, I realize The Blaze is aimed at conservatives such as myself, but the reporting bias and slant is quite alarming, put hey, give the people what they want!). There are always multiple ways to view the same issue. This is how I approach anything, with an open mind to take in the different facts that are present, and then use that to base a decision or form a particular stance.
Personally I believe I’ve gotten a lot more out of my university experience than my peers, and I would not trade it for anything. It has opened up my mind and allowed me to learn way more than I ever had even imagined. I’ve been exposed to so much hidden sides of American History, Geography, Psychology, etc. that I didn’t even know existed before going away to college.
There are responsible college students out there who want to learn. We’re also young adults who maybe sometimes drink too much, and/or make poor choices. We’re humans, that’s how we learn, I can imagine at some point in their life every adult has done something they regret. If not, then I sincerely fear for you as clearly your intelligence/maturity has peaked.
