Police: Pastor Burglarized Home on Christmas Eve

A Dallas pastor has been arrested and charged with burglary after she was caught breaking into a parishioner’s home and loading up thousands of dollars worth of clothes and accessories. But the pastor denies the charges, saying instead she was just tending to her flock:

DALLAS – Prominent south Dallas pastor Sandra McGriff burglarized the home of her parishioner on Christmas Eve, police said.
McGriff, leads The Church of the Living God and is a member of a politically active family, spent much of Christmas Day in jail.
According to investigators, 51-year-old McGriff broke into Serita Agnew’s home and tried to steal more than $10,000 worth of fur coats, designer purses and electronics.
They said a neighbor, who saw McGriff climb into Agnew’s house through a broken window, called police. When officers arrived, they allegedly found McGriff loading stolen items into her car.
Police said McGriff used an alias, attacked officers and even slipped out of a set of handcuffs before being charged with burglary and resisting arrest.
“I’m just, still, just really not believing it,” Agnew said. “She’s a powerful pastor … I can’t even begin to put my level of rage in words”
However, with slurred speech she attributed to pain pills, McGriff said she is innocent.
“I’m a giver, not a taker. I’m not a burlgarer (sic),” she said.
In fact, McGriff said she was checking on the home when she spotted two burglars. She said she climbed in the window after them.
“I should have never gone in the house. I should have called the police. I admit that,” she said.
McGriff does have a criminal past that includes prostitution and fraud.

Posted on December 28, 2010 at 8:59amFar be it from me to agree with beckisnuts ridiculous idea that a change of character is impossible, but the fact that this woman had a criminal past that included prostitution makes me wonder why anyone accepted her as a pastor. In my tradition clergy used to be expected to have no scandalous past that might detract from their witness for Christ. All sinners could repent and rejoin the flock and their repentance could be a powerful testimony, but church leadership was seen to be high office that was best given to those who had not fallen from the faith, those who were exemplarary role models. People want to see God when they look at their pastor and priest. They don‘t want to be distracted by that pastor’s past sinful life.

Then he ran off with a 20yr old girl, leaving his wife and family behind. This was a girl that he and his family had taken in when she was a teenager.

Pastors like this are ones who give ALL of Christianity a royally bad name; she commited theft, burglary and resisting arrest all in one shot and offers up the lamest of excuses? My God above, this lady needs to face justice and if convicted be given the harshest of all penalties for the damage she has done.
I also hope her “flock” disassociates themselves from her example, and her person, for in the eyes of most true churches her actions have barred her from ever again heading a church in any form or manner of responsibility.
May God have mercy upon her.
