Police Sgt. Suspended Over Bible Verse and ‘Obama Prayer’

It‘s a small Bible verse that’s causing a big controversy.

Psalm 109:8 simply says, “May his days be few; may another take his place.” It’s that verse that has become known as “The Obama Prayer.” But after Sergeant Matthew Neu of the Manatee County, Florida corrections facility highlighted that verse in a jail Bible and a fellow sergeant stumbled upon it, Neu was suspended.

Sgt. Martha Nash, a colleague of Neu’s, ran across the highlighted verse and told WTSP she was shocked:

Nash told the news station “she felt whoever left the note wanted the president dead and that the supporting verses after that verse support that.” The following verse says, “May his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow.”

Neu says that’s not the case: he doesn’t want the president dead, just out of office. In an interval investigation report, however, he does admit “Maybe it was not in good taste.”

WTSP offers more details:

He adds that the desk where he left the bible is shared by several co-workers and that there was a stack of bibles on the desk. A stack of bibles that the chaplain hands out to inmates and other employees.

Neu says he planned to show the bible verse to others since he’d received an email about the bible verse because “he thought it was funny.”

The sheriff of Manatee County, Brad Steube, was out of the office on Monday and 10 News was told no one else within the department would talk about the incident. We were told that the internal affairs report speaks for itself.

Meanwhile, Sgt. Neu has been suspended without pay for about 26 hours. That’s about three 8-hour shifts.

It offends me that everytime a liberal is offended they think someone has to give up their right to free speech.

The only difference is I’m not calling “off with their heads” or “this person must be suspended”

    Absolutely incredible,

This is the muck & mire that political correctness has brought to our country.

Lets be fair & call a spade a spade.

Its not “political correctness” its called silencing the opposing view.

A vilolation of our constitutional right to free speech

    OFF WITH THEIR HEADS LOL

Just kidding, VOTE the idiots out of office.

Every time we read about a usurpation of our rights, let’s post emails, physical mailing addresses for the usurpers and each of us reach out and slap those folks upside their vacuous heads. How about filing class action suits against each and everyone: schools, school districts, courts, judges, the president who should be impeached on innumerable accounts. @KICKAGRANDMA — Have you noticed that people have been talking more about terrorists and radical Islamic Muslims (in spite of Obama’s “call” for political correctness to the contrary) during the last two years, when during George W. Bush’s administration, the talk was more about the wars and supporting our troops?

And, as far as his days being few, they WOULD be few if he would release his background paperwork! It doesn’t matter where Obama was born; he could have been born in the center of the U.S. mainland. That would make him a NATIVE-BORN citizen. To be a NATURAL-BORN citizen, he would have to have BOTH PARENTS be U.S. citizens AND be born in the U.S. Obama’s father was a British subject, which made Junior a British subject because his mother didn‘t meet Hawaii’s residency and age requirements to pass her U.S. citizenship to her son. If he had been born in Hawaii, why do the Kenyan newspapers, the Kenyan ambassador, AND HIS GRANDMOTHER say he was born in Kenya? She said she was there in the delivery room IN KENYA when he was born!

When Congress gets cranked up tomorrow, I am calling my representative and asking that a House investigation be done on the subject AND the outrageous court martial of Lt. Col. Terry Lakin.

Keep kicking, Grandma–I’m right with you! Will soon be 71.

THE INSURANCE COMPANIES ARE TRICKING YOU INTO OPPOSING HEALTH REFORM THAT WILL BENEFIT.

Preparing To Obstruct Health Law, WI Gov. Scott Walker Hires UnitedHealth Lobbyist As Deputy Chief Of Staff

Today, Republican Scott Walker was sworn in as the newly-elected governor of the state of Wisconsin. One of the major themes of Walker’s campaign was opposition to federal health care reform efforts. Back in March, Walker announced his support for Wisconsin Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen’s intention to sue the federal government to win the right for Wisconsin to opt-out of the recently passed health care law. It is widely expected that, now that Walker is governor, Wisconsin will join the multi-state lawsuit taking aim at the federal health care law.

Now, in a signal that Walker is serious about his intention to do the insurance companies’ bidding and deny Wisconsinites the coverage and protections in the new law, the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal is reporting that Walker has hired Eric Schutt, the vice president of state government affairs for insurer parent company UnitedHealth Group, as his new deputy chief of staff:

Wisconsin Gov.-elect Scott Walker announced that Eric Schutt, vice president of state government affairs for UnitedHealth Group Inc., will serve as his deputy chief of staff.

Schutt, who worked in the Wisconsin state Legislature before joining Minnetonka-based UnitedHealth, was among four senior staff appointments Walker announced Wednesday.

While Schutt has worked for multiple Republican legislators and campaigns, his most recent job was to lobby lawmakers on behalf of UnitedHealth Group as a registered lobbyist.

UnitedHealth is one of the largest health insurance companies in the country, with its various insurers covering almost 70 million Americans. The company spent millions of dollars lobbying legislators against federal health care reform efforts, and was notorious for funding the Lewin Group, a consulting firm which produced slanted data to make the case against a public health insurance option.

Now that Walker has selected to Schutt to be his deputy chief of staff, the company’s influence in the state will be significantly magnified, which may have major ramifications as the state possibly moves to obstruct the new health care law.

      Morning Grandmaof5

Glad you got a chuckle out of my ‘salt flavored’ tea experience yesterday; I passed on the tea this morning, spent it playing with my impatient little cat. Glad you like the gallery visit – I have been trying to keep it fairly updated, and had to delete some pictures recently to have room for others of mine.

It is actually going to warm up to 61degrees today, according to the weather, and I am enjoying this break from the heat we usually deal with.

A missionary friend of mine from Brazil came here just as the big arctic front moved in, and kept saying ‘I thought this was the desert and always warm?’ Imagine the look on his face when I told him that this is “Summer weather, and the true summers are measured in feet of snow and sand.”

Someday I have to remember to bring a camera along.

Glenn Beck Now Entangled In Soros Web
January 03, 2011 10:56 pm ET by Mike Burns

By now it’s common knowledge that Glenn Beck is no fan of financier and philanthropist George Soros. Time and again, Beck has attacked Soros with anti-Semitic stereotypes, referring to him as a “puppet master” who controls the media, the political process, and the global economy. Moreover, he has routinely smeared progressives associated with Soros, fabricating lies about their political affiliations and accusing them of engaging in radical behavior.

Unfortunately for Beck, overlord Soros has now apparently infiltrated another target: Beck’s own television show.

On tonight‘s edition of Fox News’ Glenn Beck, guest-host Andrew Napolitano hosted David Boaz and Michael Cannon, Executive Vice President and Health Policy Studies Director of the Cato Institute respectively. Considering the Beck narrative relies heavily on praising libertarianism, it makes perfect sense that these two men would appear on his show — they are, after all, employees of a libertarian think tank.

But here’s the thing: The Cato Institute is a Soros grantee. Indeed, a simple Google search reveals that in 2010 Cato received a grant from Soros’ Open Society Institute for “$80,000 over 2 years to support a public and policymaker education campaign on the threats to civil liberties that a national system of identification would pose.”

Furthermore, this is not the first time that Cato has infiltrated Beck’s show. In April, Cato’s Chris Edwards appeared on the program and recommended privatization of both Social Security and Medicare.

This leads to the question: Why would Beck allow known associates of Soros — the man who is conspiring to “replace the capitalist system” — to appear on his show?

Don‘t expect to see any of this on Beck’s chalkboard anytime soon.

Good grief, you have too much time on your hands. From which Soros site did you copy and paste that little ditty?

Maybe you’re just hearing about Soros now, but the he’s been on the scene for many, many, years now. Those of us who keep ourselves more current than you obviously do knew of Ol’ George looooog before Beck made any mention of him.

Soros is a bad guy if you believe in America. Check out some of his pals too. Former Progressive Insurance founder Peter Lewis would be a good start.

Cutting and pasting does not a knowledgable person make. While you’re castigating folks for listening to Beck, you copy and post someone else’s words and apparently feel that you have made a compelling argument.

      You haven’t.

Let me guess, a six degrees of separation to Kevin Bacon scholar? So what you are saying is that if somehow someone is linked to George Soros in anyway in any fashion, that should bring about the hypocrisy of Beck? The Cato Institute website is littered with references AGAINST George Soros and have added way more information about the hypocrisy and dealings than Beck has alluded to. For all we know Beck has consulted them about this information that he plays on his show. I would love to know where you get this info since I cannot find any site not bought and paid for by the left that would post this information. I know for a fact that MSNBC would be smearing this info all over for weeks to discredit Beck if it was readily available and valid, but this just goes to prove my point that it isn’t valid. If you are the think tank you say you are, then why are you posting on here instead of air with Olbermann or Maddow? I don‘t buy it and common sense conservatives don’t either. By the way, Media Matters and HUFFPO are NOT news and have nothing based on history or credibility on any part of their site just loud mouthed liberals like yourself. Congrats on your 2 minutes….

Now we can punish fellow Americans for quoting the Bible? Freedom of religion and freedom of speech has taken a hit with this POSPOTUS. If this were a muslim quote it would never have come forward. Plus that scripture was used endlessly regarding President Bush and the neo-libs that it was a laugh riot. I am still free to have my own opinions a the moment and I believe most blacks are racist because they are fixated on skin color either black or lack thereof. And, I believe obama is a muslim. Too bad, so sad.

Figures…but a Mooslem on TV or on a college campus can pray to Allah for destruction of a Christian leader or conservative politician even.i.e. Infidels and the media will immediately ask the question “What Did We/They Do Wrong”? Stand strong…hold fast..no compromise. Time is coming when you will have to stand on your convictions. What are your convictions? Testing time is coming…

I’ll break this to you gently.
Stories like these do not represent the majority.
Stories like these have existed for decades under republican or democratic presidents.
The Blaze hand picks theses stories to get you folks all worked up. This entire site is meant to get you all worked up about one off situations in one small place where one person does something unjust. Wake up and realize that you are arguing about nothing and attempting to link everything to an administration that you disagree with. This administration has created many real issues for you to discuss. Don’t let the new right wing enquirer dictate your dialogue. Hey, did you hear, Obama almost got hit with a golfball!

Our ability as American’s, to understand the truth, has been altered so rapidly that we have taken reason out. The devil has championed the demise of these United States and many have jumped on the bandwagon. The devil seeks to devour not nibble, to destroy not pick at, to kill not maim. The eyes of We The People need to be opened or they will be closed shut by the collusion of the followers of the prince of darkness.

As someone who has no respect for Obama as a man or a leader I have to say I think you are all mistaken here. The quoted Psalm is taken out of context by being quoted incompletely. If you pray the entire text of the Psalm, you are praying for the death of the man, the ruin of his reputation, and the suffering of his family.

Please people, don’t bring yourselves down to the level of the so called “religion of peace that is Islam”
Please people, maintain your Christian values.

      GdavidH,
I might agree with you if the entire psalm was circled but it was only the one line that was highlighted. Clearly if only one line is highlighted you can’t throw the whole book at him.

Hey folks, let’s get out of the Old Testament and into the New and Jesus. Although I don‘t agree with our President’s agenda I do respect the office and it’s authority and the fact that he was duly elected by the people. There is nothing in the words of Jesus asking us to pray for anything but good for those all around us, even those who spitefully use us. Our President is not our enemy! If we are not satisfied with his vision for the United States we need to get off our butts and computers and get to the voting booths to do something about it. Praying for the demise of anyone cannot in any way be associated with the Christ I know!

I don’t mean to throw the entire book at him.
      However….
I personally don’t think these Psalms should be picked apart and ascribed meanings that were never intended by their authors. Taking texts out of context in many aspects of our society seems to me to be causing alot of trouble. Two examples: The Constitution, and anything said by Glen Beck

Thank God you’re here to tell everyone what to read, what to care about, what to discuss, what is and isn’t important! Whatever would we do without your guidance?

If you don’t feel the article is worthy of your comment, then don’t comment. Why do you care what everyone else does?

Our freedoms should be protected (Ammendment 1 of the Bill of rights guarantees this) Speaking evil against dignitaries is not good (2 Peter 2:10) We don’t have to like what is said and done by our president; I don’t, but we should pray for Him and our nation. (1Tim. 2:1-4) We are to have a good repuatation among unbelievers (1 Peter 2:12) May we Christians continue to be careful what is said and done, especially in the name of Christ.

In the meantime, Holder gets his High-value Interrogations Group (HIG) to protect enemy combatants by Mirandizing them, as they did with the Times Square Bomber. According to Wikipedia, HIG was created to

“SHIFT[] POWER FROM THE CIA AND THE FBI TO THE WHITE HOUSE.”

Do we understand the import of that shift? It is what despots do. They shift all power to themselves. TSA, HIG, SEIU/ACORN and the DOJ, of course — all answer to Obama. Pretty soon your medical record will also be under his control.

Suspensions like this one go WAY beyond PC. This is a violation of free speech. Cases like these will become so commonplace that people will be desensitized to the abuse – until it happens to them.

Tyranny affects all, regardless of race. Remember Velma Hart, the black woman who very politely expressed her disillusion with Obama during those staged townhalls before the midterm elections? She was fired for making him look bad. I can still recall the initial expression of contained anger in the Tyrant’s face. The sad thing is this woman was a Democrat who really had no idea who she had voted into the WH. She thought he was just another Dem like her. If she had understood Obama’s despotic nature, she would have kept her buyer’s remorse to herself. How many other clueless blacks/Dims are out there? In fact, how many conservatives truly understand that Obama is a commie, and therefore does not play by the rules of a Constitutional Republic?

Obama has the FBI in his pocket, he has brought the CIA to its knees, and the upper echelons of the Pentagon probably back him up as well. Who’s left?

Now that’s a stretch, and since when having a dislike for the president become an offense worthy of being punished by your employer. PSALM 109
(a prayer for Kenyan marxist Obama & the Progressive-commie Democrats)

6 Set a wicked man over him,
And let an accuser stand at his right hand.

7 When he is judged, let him be found guilty,
And let his prayer become sin.

8 Let his days be few,
And let another take his office.

9 Let his children be fatherless,
      And his wife a widow.

      10 Let his children continually be vagabonds, and beg;
Let them seek their bread also from their desolate places.

11 Let the creditor seize all that he has,
And let strangers plunder his labor.

12 Let there be none to extend mercy to him,
Nor let there be any to favor his fatherless children.

13 Let his posterity be cut off,
And in the generation following let their name be blotted out.

14 Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered before the LORD,
And let not the sin of his mother be blotted out.

15 Let them be continually before the LORD,
      That He may cut off the memory of them from the earth;

16 Because he did not remember to show mercy,
But persecuted the poor and needy man,
That he might even slay the broken in heart.

      17 As he loved cursing, so let it come to him;
As he did not delight in blessing, so let it be far from him.

      Amen (may it be so)

Quoting a verse from the Bible that simply says, “May his days be few and another take his office.” is not necessarily indication of an assassination plot or even desire. It means simply he wants the man out of office.

The psalm is what is called “Imprecatory prayer” and it has been practiced worldwide since Biblical times. Every time someone actually says “G-d d-mn you“ or ”Go to H-ll”, it’s an imprecatory prayer. So, are they going to start imprisoning people for imprecatory prayer?

Wasn’t there a story on The Blaze in the last few days about a woman who was actively praying that Sarah Palin “go away”? That could easily be interpreted as wishing her dead. Are they going to suspend this woman for that? Also seem to remember several people who had bottles of champaigne chilling in their frigs waiting for former President Reagan to die. Too bad I didn’t make a list, they should also be suspended. Oh, and all those really pleasant emails that I got when W. was in office, hoping and praying that he would “disappear”, or something equally as nice. I’ll be happy to turn those over to which ever authority is collecting the names of those who prayer against others.

      Gonna be darn interesting.
