Police: Woman Shoots at Puppy, Kills Husband Instead

JACKSON, Miss. (The Blaze/AP) — Police in Mississippi say a woman opened fire on a puppy that had threatened children, but wound up shooting and killing her husband.

Witnesses tell police that the 8-month-old pit bull named “Cocaine” had lunged at some children and tried to attack them on Friday, although other witnesses disputed that account to news crews, saying there was no such attack. The dead man’s son says the children were taken inside and his father picked the dog up.

It was then that police say Betty Walker fired twice, hitting the dog once and her husband once in the chest. Jackson police spokeswoman Colendula Green says the death of 53-year-old Robert Walker appears to have been accidental.

She says a Hinds County grand jury will decide whether to charge Betty Walker.

Animal control officers have taken the dog.

      It is a puppy. I seriously doubt the animal “attacked” anyone. More likely, although still unlikely because pitbulls aren’t barkers like a husky, the woman was tired of the dog barking and she was a complete loon. She has now proven that she is a member of a class of people who uses a gun in situations that don’t require it and will only kill people. Until now, she was given a pass because we don’t live in the Minority Report world, but now she has proven it after 50 years and she should be put away where she can’t hurt anyone else or better yet, put down because we can’t have people like this running loose and killing again. And we all know that we can‘t just say that she can’t own a weapon because that would completely dissolve her right of self defense and make her a second class citizen. Since she can’t be trusted, just do away with her.

      Was that too harsh? Nah, she shot a puppy and killed her husband. She‘s lucky she didn’t kill any children and that she only wounded the pup. If it had been my pup, the police wouldn’t have found the shooting suspect.

      There are stereotypes for every community.

      Sure, they originate from SOMEWHERE, so there is usually some basis in fact.

      However, dismissing their misconduct as being CAUSED by their origin – their community – releives them of personal responsibility, and shifts responsiblity to the INNOCENT among that population WHO ARE RESPONSIBLE individuals, who DO act intelligently. PLUS, it DISCOUNTS and DEGRADES the members of that population who ARE responsible, upright citizens.

      Seriously hauschild, the type of dog is not the problem. Ask any vet what kind of danger they are. Look up nanny dogs, ‘America’s dog’, and the pit bulls history. WW1 is especially interesting.       It‘s not descriptive it’s disrespectful. The only time “white” or “black” comes up in a sentence is when a person of one color is describing someone of another color. I am white, when I reference a white person in a video I say “that guy” when I reference a black person I say “that black guy”.

      That is the problem with color – it promotes the idea of there being a difference. A world without racism is not a world where we call it eachother the “correct” term (Africa American vs Black) it is where we no longer require a term at all.

      We can’t all live in suburbia… Anyone that lives in or near a city “hears” shootings (maybe not regularly, but occasionally). Anytime a gun goes off in the city it can be heard over many blocks and by literally hundreds of people. What are you supposed to tell the police? “Yeah I heard a gun shot, here is where I live – good luck finding where it came from.”

I grant there are instances where it is simply not necessary to describe what they looked like, but when that is important, how should we describe that person? In this case, it was certainly not necessary for Konacow to mention it, since every person in the video was black. If you are having a conversation and mention someone on the other side of the room who’s name is not known by you or your party, do you refer to them as “the blonde” or the “guy with black hair?“ How about ”the Hispanic?” Sorry, but it’s just plain foolish to believe we never have to describe someone. When we do, it is idiotic to call someone who probably has never been to Africa, or may not be American as an “African-American.”
      Another instance of your juvenile mentality is when you say nearly everyone who lives in a city is going to hear gunfire. I have lived in several cities, and in some not great neighborhoods, and HAVE NEVER heard gunfire while in the city. I now live outside the city and hear it often from deer hunters. It is certaily telling that a city is particularly bad when the kids growing up there are used to hearing gunfire.

      I’ve known tons of pitbulls and only ONE was aggressive. Poor ownership is almost always to blame. You see it much more often in chihuahuas in my experience. The pitbull fear was just sensationalized to the point it became common “knowledge.”

      don’t blame the dog …. the human being is the one who trains the dog to behave the way it does. yes, some dogs are more inherently aggressive, but it takes its owner/trainer to encourage the behavior. i would bet this dog was neglected, left alone, never trained and probably physically abused. The owners should be held accountable.

      Actually, Dale, he’s right. We’ve had numerous pitbull attacks in our neighborhood in recent years, all by pit bulls who’s owners assured us, “wouldn’t harm a fly”. Two neighborhood dogs had to be put down as a result. One child lost a finger.

    This article never stated who owned the dog. Was it a family pet or a stray? But regardless of that the dogs name was known. Personally I put my children‘s safety before anyone else’s feelings and will not allow a dog like that on my property. If the owner is offended by my request to remove the dog, they are both asked to leave.Any stray pit bull on my land will be shot! With a name like cocaine you know the owners values are questionable!

      I have to agree, who names a pitbull Cocaine. These dogs have a bad rap and I’ve met some that are as playful as Labs. I don’t even want to comment on the owners. Hopefully a pitbull rescue will take the puppy and ACORN can try to do something with the mother. I swear; some people need to be sterilized.
