Policy Reversal: U.S. Announces Rebuke of Israel Before the UN Security Council

On Friday, the United States informed Arab governments that it intends to support a U.N. Security Council resolution stating that it “does not accept the legitimacy of continued Israeli settlement activity,” a move that U.S. diplomats hoped would help bypass a veto dispute over a stronger Palestinian resolution which would condemn the settlements as illegal.
But according to a report from the Turtle Bay UN blog at Foreign Policy, the Palestinians rejected the American offer late Wednesday and insisted they would press for a vote on their own resolution Friday. “The decision to reject the American offer raised the prospects that the Obama administration may cast its first ever veto in the U.N. Security Council,” the report stated.
Perhaps more significant, however, the U.S. offer signaled a willingness to break with its key ally and join others in the council in condemning construction of new Israeli settlements.
The Palestinian delegation, along with the council’s Arab member Lebanon, have asked the council’s president this evening to schedule a meeting on Friday. But it remained unclear whether the Palestinian move today is simply a negotiating tactic aimed at extracting a better deal from the United States.
Susan E. Rice, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, outlined the new U.S. offer in a closed door meeting on Tuesday with the Arab Group, a bloc of Arab countries from North Africa and the Middle East. In exchange for scuttling the Palestinian resolution, the United States would support the council statement, consider supporting a U.N. Security Council visit to the Middle East, the first since 1979, and commit to supporting strong language criticizing Israel’s settlement policies in a future statement by the Middle East Quartet.
The U.S.-backed draft statement — which was first reported by Al Hurra — was obtained by Turtle Bay. In it, the Security Council “expresses its strong opposition to any unilateral actions by any party, which cannot prejudge the outcome of negotiations and will not be recognized by the international community, and reaffirms, that it does not accept the legitimacy of continued Israeli settlement activity, which is a serious obstacle to the peace process.“ The statement also condemns ”all forms of violence, including rocket fire from Gaza, and stresses the need for calm and security for both peoples.”
U.S. officials were not available for comment, but two Security Council diplomats confirmed the proposal. The Arab Group was scheduled to meet this afternoon to formulate a formal response to the American offer. Council diplomats said that the discussions were fluid and that there was still the possibility that the U.S. draft would be subject to further negotiations. They said it was also not yet certain that the U.S. offer would satisfy the Arab Group, and that the U.S. may be forced to veto the Palestinian resolution.
Turtle Bay notes that Obama administration officials insist the only way to resolve the Middle East conflict is through direct negotiations with both Israel and the Palestinians. The Obama administration has previously refused to negotiate with the Palestinians on resolution condemning the settlements, but the group’s current proposal would have to voted on on the bases of consensus in the 15-nation council.
In addition, Turtle Bay notes that “virtually all 14 other member states” on the Security Council are prepared to support the Palestinian resolution, leaving the U.S. isolated in its opposition.
The U.S. concession comes as the Middle East continues to face an expanding wave of unrest that has so far toppled regimes in Tunisia and Egypt and poses a threat to a number of other governments in the region.

I think that they are the only country who has ever attacked an American destroyer ship and shot and killed American soldiers who survived the attack and were trying to get to land on rescue craft. Israel is also trying to get the US to free an Israeli spy who stole classified information that they then sold to Russia. This information could have been catastrophic had a war broken out between the two countries. The only reason why Israel considers us an ally is because we are a powerful country which they could use for many purposes, us soon as we lose power and become obsolete, Israel will consider us useless and treat us like dogs. You guys have to understand that Israel and Jew’s do not care about the countries that they reside in, they use the countries they reside in for reasons that benefit Israel and Jew’s. What a joke this administration is. It would not surprise me one bit if the US did NOT use it’s veto to defend a “former” ally.
There is no point in calling for defunding as long as a Democrat is in the White House. Nearly all of that funding comes from the State Department, and Hillary loves the UN. The best solution, given our complete mess of a foreign policy, would be to dissolve our State Department!

Not only did God promise to protect them once their land was given back, but the U.S. must also support them for the same reason. Don’t defund Israel,,,,just quit giving money to the U.N. mongers.

Freedom is America‘s and the west’s core belief. Millions of people from western nations, both military and civilian, have fought and died to defend and preserve it. How is it possible that the Obama administration can do a “Neville Chamberlain” after all of history’s so expensively learned lessons.

Governor Lamm’s Speech of “How to Destroy America” touched on a portion of it a decade plus ago, worth looking up and reading by the way. Additionally, overspending so we are indebted and dependent on other countries for the very existence of our infrastructure, devalue/destroy our currency worldwide, allow our borders to be basically unchecked revolving doors, make us dependent on foreign sources of energy, alienate our allies while aiding our enemies, create 2-3 entitlement generations who have the core belief they cannot exist without the government, just to name a few. You can look at the last 4 administrations and both sides of the isle in both the Congress and the Senate for blame. We are about to painfully realize the collapse of the house of cards that the progressives have created over the last few decades with a willing press. The actions of the Parties cannot simply be naiveté anymore. It is truly gut wrenching to watch.

The Arab-Israeli issues are complex, but the issue of encroaching settlements isn’t really. Israel is taking land that belongs to Palestinians by arguing that they need the extra space. This behavior has been criticized by the Obama administration, but also the Bush and Clinton administrations. If even the most egregious injustices are acceptable, I wonder what actions by Israel would not be acceptable to the right-wingers who apparently will accept anything to ensure of the second coming of Jesus. Tell me, would genocide by allowed? How about systematic starvation? I’d like to know what action by Israel would be out of bounds to conservatives, since I haven’t seen one yet.

There are two reasons; the first reason shear prejudice (black for blacks no matter what the person believes as long as they are black) and the second reason stupidity. Now let’s think this through. Many (85 to 90 %) blacks who voted for Obama just because of the color of his skin and not the content of his character. Why because he is black and they’re black.
