Polish Court Fines Singer Who Said the Bible Was Written By ‘Someone Drunk on Wine & Smoking…Herbs’

WARSAW, Poland (The Blaze/AP) — A Polish court slapped a fine on a popular singer who bad-mouthed the Bible — the latest episode in which authorities grapple with religious defamation in a traditionally Catholic country that is growing increasingly secular.

In this Oct. 11, 2011 file photo Polish pop singer Dorota "Doda" Rabczewska is photographed in Warsaw, Poland. (AP Photo/Alik Keplicz, file)
Dorota Rabczewska, a singer who uses the stage name Doda, said in a 2009 interview that she doubted the Bible “because it’s hard to believe in something that was written by someone drunk on wine and smoking some herbs.”
In 2010, the Telegraph reported:
[Doda's words] prompted furious Catholic groups to lodge complaints with the prosecutor’s office.
“It is clear that Doda thinks that the Bible was written by drunkards and junkies,” said Ryszard Nowak, chairman of the Committee for the Defence Against Sects, an organisation dedicated to protecting Christian values. “I believe that she committed a crime and offended the religious feelings of both Christians and Jews.” If found guilty the pop star faces a two-year jail sentence or a hefty fine under Polish blasphemy laws.
On Monday, a Warsaw court opted to fine her; she will be forced to pay 5,000 zlotys ($1,450) for offending religious feelings.
The case comes months after another Polish court let off a death metal performer, Adam Darski, who tore a Bible during a 2007 performance. It deemed his act artistic expression.
Darski and Rabczewska once dated.

Posted on January 16, 2012 at 9:48pmExactly. It’s suspect how all these laws are being put into action when the vast majority of Americans are against them. Obama does not hide the fact that he is muslim and his foreign policies actually dictate his muslim faith. The vail is being pulled over our eyes and we are supposed to just go along with the flow as our Judea-Christian values as Americans are being erased before our eyes. It‘s shameful but it’s our fault. We ALLOWED a lame duck, shady, lying man to become the most powerful man in the free world. 2 Timothy 3 describes our generation the best and that’s not a good thing.

Attention grabbing people mocking all Christians to make themselves of higher esteem amongst their own kind. This is worse than socialism. This is worse than war crimes. This is something that the world never saw coming and now that it‘s here it’s overcome us. Unless we do something about it. Even when I was not a believer I never would say things like this.

Posted on January 16, 2012 at 8:18pmShame on you… a willingness to behead someone for something they say, makes you no different than a radical Islamist. Your defense of God and Jesus is misguided, and hateful, as you only need to remember what Jesus said, “he who is without sin, cast the first stone”. Jesus came to save, not to condemn. Jesus is a loving example of perfect kindness, concern for everyone, and total forgiveness. I suggest you get back in the Bible. Interesting: I’ve always found most Bible critics to have read very little scripture, but that doesn’ts seem to slow them down… they seem to know so much about it, and it is usually totally wrong.

Posted on January 17, 2012 at 7:32amNo. You don’t want her to be stoned, beheaded, or anything of the sort. In fact, the fine seems out of place. She can have her opinion and should be able to express it. She shouldn’t be given any special media platform from which to announce it, though. Remember the fate that befell Sinead O’Connor. Her’s was merely an attack on the Catholic Church and that pretty well marked the end of her career. I suspect Doda might end up forgotten by a fickle public far more quickly.

Posted on January 17, 2012 at 11:10pmI wonder why Satan and his miniouns can be as serious as a heart attack but when a Christian makes a stand I’m considered stupid, brash, pious and judgemental. Maybe my critics should examine the side they are on a little more closely. I support that law in Poland making blasphemy illegal. I believe we should have that law in our own states. I think the punishment should be severe and enforced. You have free speech to say what you want but be ready to suffer the consequences of what you say. I am ready.

Posted on January 18, 2012 at 9:31am@RDIETZ7, . . . because, idiot, you are calling for the death of people ONLY for hurting your little religious feelings. You are apparently too ignorant to understand why your words are ghastly and entirely immoral.
And since you mentioned it, . . . please demonstrate your credible evidence for “Satan”,…THEN, if you are able to do that, “Satan’s minions”. If you cannot do this, then your statement is irrelevant and shows that you speak out of your ignorance to insult people without any reason but to be purposefully malicious.

Posted on January 16, 2012 at 6:36pmWRONG. The bible was written by people under the influence of Psilocybin Mushrooms. Pretty much all of the ancient religions were created by people under the influence of psychedelic drugs.
& if you think that’s crazy, try reading the bible with that in mind & tell me that the bible doesn’t have some really trippy details in it. & the Hindu religion? Pfft, forget about it. Why do you think they worship cows? Mushrooms grow naturally on cow pies.
Of course those are just theories. But it makes sense to me that man would create religions based on the highly spiritual & introspective experiences that drugs like psychedelics can provide.
I know a lot of you probably hate me for even considering a connection between drugs & religious experiences, but keep in mind, I’m not talking about heroin or crystal meth, I’m talking about drugs like weed & mushrooms. I’m sure many of you are too uneducated/ignorant on the subject of drugs to realize the huge difference. Also, in ancient times, natural drugs were generally accepted so it’s not hard to imagine a large percentage of the population as regular drug users.

Posted on January 16, 2012 at 7:41pmThe bible was created by people who knew exactly what they were doing when they cobbled it together. They were not under the influence of organics but under the influence of unbridled power. The biggest question here is who made who, did God create Man or did Man create God???? If Jesus died for our sins why did God cheat the human race and Resurrect Jesus? Dying and suffering on a cross would not seem that bad if you knew you would be resurrected anyway. Alas I digress, organized religion of any kind is a concept created by humans to enslave and control larger groups of humans through fear, shame and guilt. If God created everything from universes to dung beetles why would He/She allow other religions to exist and cause so much chaos and death and suffering. I am not an Aetheist, I just do not believe all the man made b.s. God may have created everything that ever was except for one thing, himself. The entity that created God, now that would be an entity to worship.

in no jurisdiction in the states is a slur a hate-crime or any other kind of crime. You are simply making stuff up. A hate-crime is a crime accompanied by the criminal intent to intimidate or effect the behaviors of citizens similar to the victim. Don’t want Islamic families in your neighborhood? Kick the crap out of a few and the message will spread that your neighborhood is not safe for Muslims. That’s a hate crime. It’s also pretty similar to the definition of terrorism.
And, by the way, how do any of you know the authors of the bible were not under the influence?
