Storage Company Launches Ad Campaigns Blasting Bachmann, Palin, Bush, Cheney & Tea Party

Manhattan Mini Storage Launches Politically Charged Ad Campaign Against Bachmann

Manhattan Mini Storage, a New York City-based company that provides residents with moving and personal storage services, has been adopting a risky and potentially-offensive advertising strategy for years: Poking fun at Republicans.

MMS’s politically-charged campaigns may be entertaining to some, but they hold the potential to alienate a portion of the company’s target audience. Perhaps the city’s leftist nature creates a situation ripe for this sort of communication. Still, some have questioned why MMS utilizes this divisive tactic.

After all, it’s ironic that a storage company, which one would expect to be focused upon showing the true value of its much-needed services, would so willingly jump into the political realm.

A recent poster for that company takes aim at Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann. Reading, “Michele Bachmann says God told her to run for president.” The ad continues: “How come God never talks to smart people anymore?”

This conservative-bashing is nothing new. New York Magazine’s Daily Intel blog writes:

Manhattan Mini Storage’s political, liberal-friendly ads have been a common sight around the city for years. Remember the one about Sarah Palin from 2008? “What’s More Limited? Your Closet or Her Experience?” That was kind of clever! But this new one targeting Michele Bachmann … we’re not feeling it. Yes, Michele Bachmann is not that smart. What does that have to do storage?

Bachmann and Palin, of course, haven‘t been the company’s only GOP targets. Former Vice President Dick Cheney was also spoofed in a past ad:

Manhattan Mini Storage Launches Politically Charged Ad Campaign Against Bachmann

In another poster, the company warned about storing one’s belongings outside of Manhattan. After all, they could “come back Republican”:

Manhattan Mini Storage Launches Politically Charged Ad Campaign Against Bachmann

And it wouldn’t be an anti-Republican ad campaign without a George W. Bush slam, right?

And, alas, the Tea Party angle:

Of course, there’s also the ultra-controversial abortion-themed (i.e. the hanger) advertisement that inspired conversation and debate among a great many:

Considering New York’s recent District 9 results, one wonders if the company will continue slamming the Republican Party.

Some — mainly Republicans — probably want to see the company stick to promoting the moving and storage services they have to offer rather than dabbling in political theater.

We might be on to something here. I have a decent size barn that sits clost to a highway with much traffic. I wonder if I could come up with some slick little saying to paint on the side?

-Hold tight Jimmy Carter, Obama is about to pass you up.

-Tired of seeing that mangy spot on your dog’s butt? Imagine what Nancy Pelosi’s husband has to deal with every morning.

-You can lead a liberal to water, unfortunately you can not hold their head under until bubbles appear.

-If a chicken and a half can lay an egg and a half in an hour and a half, how many minutes will it take Obama, Pelosi, and Reid to raise taxes on hen houses?

Maybe because the so-called smart only think they are smart. God confounds those who are ‘wise in their own eyes,’ and gives sight to the blind. God uses the foolish things of the world to show his wisdom, and vice versa. God does not work on our level. Our wisdom is as foolishness to God.

Interesting … the one about Cheney … don’t you love the “I Love Halliburton” button.. aren’t they so clever…
Fast forward to 2010. The One is in office. Mr. Hope and Change. So, what has Obama done about Halliburton aka KBR? Why, he’s given them a no-bid contract, of course.

      Bloomberg Businessweek:
KBR Inc. [aka Halliburton] was selected for a no-bid contract worth as much as $568 million through 2011 for military support services in Iraq, the Army said. The Army announced its decision yesterday only hours after the Justice Department said it will pursue a lawsuit accusing the Houston-based company of taking kickbacks from two subcontractors on Iraq-related work. The Army also awarded the work to KBR over objections from members of Congress, who have pushed the Pentagon to seek bids for further logistics contracts.

Is Dick Cheney secretly still in government? Or, is Halliburton one of the few contractors who can get the job done? Either Halliburton is the son of Satan, or the left was wrong in demonizing them in the first place. They can’t have it both ways. Either they were right, and Halliburton is evil incarnate and The One – their one – is supporting such evil; or they were wrong in the first place and should just shut up.

Either way, they really should shut up.

You’re not actually discussing politics–you are harassing someone trying to earn a paycheck who likely has nothing to do with the ads themselves.

Did you actually read their adds? It is not just an add for their business, or an add promoting a democrat. their adds are an attemped slap in the face of conservatives. Thier add callse Bachmann stupid, makes fun of the tea party.

If you want to play be ready to pay. If they want to use thier business as a front for liberalism, do not be dismayed when tea party folks call up and talk politics right back/.

The first ammendment goes both ways. If enough tea party and conservatives call and make a ruckus, and if it hurts their business, then they might change their advertizing. Not a hard concept to grasp.

there is a real science to advertisment, thus the ammount of money in it. Their adds may work, it may prove to be counter productive.

Ranger, please stop being so naive. The ads are not a “Bully pulpit”; they are clearly targeted towards people who ALREADY AGREE with these ideas. Nor do these ads really advance anything like a “liberal agenda”–they make fun of Bachmann, Palin, Cheney and Bush. There are plenty of conservatives out there who have no problem making fun of Bachmann and Palin (for good reason). With the exception of the abortion-themed ad, there is nothing there that really suggests any agenda. I know that’s hard for you to process, but it requires you to think for just a second that some things are NOT part of a huge conspiracy.

These are local ads for a local audience. The fact that they reference national figures does not change this fact. Its an obvious fact, so don’t play stupid.

Amazingly, there have been plenty of times in which I have seen businesses that use their signs to make some kind of political joke, and I have not at all felt compelled to try to punish them for it. Just because you have the first amendment doesn’t mean you should be a jerk. If you want to live in a country where any opinions that local business owners express are subject to “approval” from national mobs, then I think that’s rather unfortunate.

Whether you agree with them or not, these ads are a smart move–they are memorable, controversial enough to give plenty of exposure, and they DO appeal to many in that market.

Sure you have free speech–I’m not debating your legal right. I‘m saying that you are deliberately attempting to sabotage a business because that business has chosen to express opinions you don’t like. This isn’t exactly a lunch counter in Selma situation here. You’re not actually discussing politics–you are harassing someone trying to earn a paycheck who likely has nothing to do with the ads themselves.

You are free to protest as you like, but I’m just pointing out that if you believe in the free market, you should let this company conduct its business the way it wants to.

Sure Ranger. That is, if your idea of a “free” market is that you can open your local business and work to appeal to your local clients, at least until some national pressure group decides it doesn’t like your message and decides to harass you until you are forced to change your business.
      ***
Oh, not considered an agenda or conspiracy anymore when you think you’re getting to implement it,right?
Sorry, even if it takes 90 yrs, (you guys really did study the tortoise & hare didn’t you?) it’s still considered an agenda. In FREEDOM a person is free to do what he/she wants with (or on) his/her own property as long as it doesn’t INTERFERE with the rights and freedoms of others!

They won’t get any more business from the free coverage that the Blaze just doled out. Still, it could be a good tactic — even in a conservative region. It depends on the level of competition in the particular industry. If there are 10 companies dividing the market relatively equally, then a campaign that appeals to only 20% of the population could double market share.

Why is that an individual can grow up in this country and actually think that a person who has more money is somehow obligated to tolerate having it stolen from them via the Government? The American dream is not receiving a Big screen TV as part of a Government sponsored hand-out, it is earning enough money to be able to purchase one if one so chooses, same goes for a house, nice car, vacations, etc. It is not a dream to have those things handed to us by a benevolent Government, that is a fantasy, and a sick and deluded one at that. The dream of this country is access to opportunity. The Dream is that if I work hard enough, or am creative enough, I can carve out my existence here in freedom from tyranny. I can be the captain of my own ship. And although there are certainly a few things best done by a government generally, “redistributing” wealth is the most counterproductive way to assist anyone who is floundering in poverty. The wealthiest have enough of their money taken from them through taxation, I would rather see them spend their money as they see fit, putting it back into a growing economy, investing in future returns and creating job opportunities for anyone hungry enough to pursue them. It is not Bill Gates’ job to provide me with the things I need or want via an all-knowing Government, it is mine.

Talk about some scared liberals, Keep the pressure on Tea Party, great evidence that you are winning.

Too bad the Tea Party isn’t winning in St. Louis City; they left their office in a shambles after this past January and the building they were in should be condemned. Thanks Tea Party St Louis for adding blight to my neighborhood!

There is no doubt these people are like lttle children. It has been very amusing to watch these people self destruct. They know no other way to try and make their case, it‘s why they’re losing seats in droves. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_DSa5zq_5LE
