Politically Correct NYC YMCA Dumps Santa Claus for Frosty

A New York City YMCA chapter came under fire Sunday after deciding to celebrate the Christmas season with Frosty the Snowman instead of Santa Claus.

But the politically correct West Village YMCA defended the change, claiming the organization was undergoing a “rebranding,” transitioning the Young Men’s Christian Association to “The Y,” the New York Post reports:Politically Correct NYC YMCA Dumps Santa Claus for Frosty

Kids who once thrilled at sitting on Santa‘s lap at the 14th Street McBurney YMCA’s wildly popular annual holiday luncheon will now suffer the icy embrace of a talking snowman and his sidekick, an anonymous penguin, at today’s event.

Forget about bringing a list or checking it twice — Frosty doesn’t take gift requests, and doesn‘t care if you’re naughty or nice. …

“It wasn’t replacing; it was transitioning,” said John Rappaport, executive director of the McBurney YMCA. “We realized that change is sometimes good, and that Frosty is a great winter character who would appeal to a broader number of kids.”

The decision to ditch Father Christmas came down from McBurney branch administration, not the Y’s Chicago headquarters.

The YMCA was founded in 1844 as an organized effort to spread Christian values.  The decision to “transition” from St. Nick to a secular cartoon character didn’t sit well with religious leaders.

“Christmas is not about Jack Frost; it’s not about snowmen,” fumed Bill Donohue of the Catholic League. “We’re not talking about some secular organization that has no religious roots. If they can’t celebrate Christmas, then they should check out. What a bunch of cowards.”

“Santa belongs to all the people,” added Ed Bobrow, who has played Santa at Central Park’s Belvedere Castle for years. “He represents openness and an invitation for anyone and everyone to celebrate good will toward man.”

Bobrow, who is Jewish, says it’s the kids who will miss out. “Try to see it through the eyes of the children,” he said.

“It’s sad that people are so offended by a man in a red suit,” said Taylor Patterson, an 18-year-old member of the McBurney Y. “It’s not a Christian thing. It is the spirit of the holiday that counts. I think the Y is well intended, but misguided.”

But “The Y” is standing firm, insisting that all are welcome to its new “holiday” celebration, including Santa, “if he’s in town,” Rappaport said.

    Transitioning from no request to Santa about gifts to chilling w/Frosty is direct response against charity. No room at this Inn for asking and receiving. Just sit down and eat, and what you don‘t eat w’ll throw in the trash. Happy Holiday, go home.

    I would say it is not about Christ birth but about Christ teachings and Santa has allways been a shinning light of giving to the most vulnerable of us i.e. children. Easter and passover are the celibration of christ life. His birth is debatable and actually unknown. The holiday is to celabrate all of these things in my opinion. Frosty is far from that since he is merely a commercial invented icon.

    Just another example of how the left is trying to “change our history.” The First Lady said they were goning to do that and they are. (trying that is) Santa may well be “kid stuff” and not terribly important in the grand scheme of things but that’s not the point. America’s traditions are OURS and need to remain that way. They just keep chipping away at everything that make us what we are. (or were)

    I am certainly not offened by the sight of a Minora or other symbols. They don’t hold any strong meaning for me one way or the other. If they do for you great! Knock yourself out. Shouldn’t I have that same freedom??????

    If you don’t care about having Santa around for children fine. Ignore it. But children should be allowed to be children with all that entails. The real world will crash in on them soon enough.

    hmm could have sworm it was the “Young Mans Christian Association” and the Santa Claus is also refered to as “Jolly old Saint Nick” To my knowledge it has allways been reconized as a christian organization and tax-exempt because of that if I remember right. Think the ACLU will defend the christian Organization to put santa back. Nah never happen.

    Nativity scenes were replaced by Santa Claus, but now even Santa isn’t secular enough. That’s the thing with political correctness: It just keeps going; there‘s always some new ’issue’ to address.

    Gee, I guess Charlie Brown is no longer the only person in the world to take something like Christmas and turn it into a problem.

    How about Congress just declare that Christmas is no longer a holiday, so that government employees have to work that day if it falls during the regular work week? That should solve all the problems for everyone, shouldn’t it?

      For true progress and social justice, sacrifices have to be made. Just ask your nearest liberal.

      I’m sure some will celebrate, but they’ll need to use a personal day to take off from work. I’m convinced every union will support this. Of course, not everyone can take off, but they have the nearest weekend for celebrating if and however they choose.

      Just think–no more Santas, no court fights over Nativity scenes, no offended feelings of atheists or people of another religious persuasion. There won’t be any trappings in stores or civic centers to tweak tender sensibilities. A lot can be solved here!

      Again, just ask your nearest liberal.

    yes the YMSA. s for secular. I can’t wait for the catholic priests to say they need to be more inclusive to other religions. I have always warned people of this nonsense. A christian organization just tossed christian in search of a more inclusive environment. How many more cheeks do you people have? Jesus never expected a man to roll over and be enslaved. You turn the other cheek to provide the offender one more chance to change their ways. If you get slapped again you are expected to defend yourself. Our cheeks are both red now. Now is the time to come together and decide how to handle this problem. After the second slap the offender will always declare themselves the righteous bringers of truth. If you simply sit back and do nothing, You are surrendering to their way and tossing god aside. You must be the bringers of truth. Stand firm, do not allow weak people to take your religion from you simply because they have none and you would not defend your own. The word of god is strong. Remember it, teach it. Let all know that any man that denies those truth or belittles them is wrong and simply trying to escape their own sins by making nothing a sin. Stand firmly and god will stand with you. He expects you to have red cheeks but his words and meanings are the true sword of the righteous man. You are expected to wield them and be strong.

      That will be next. Anything and everything that has to do with Christian values is being erased from uniquely American Culture. Before long, we won’t even recognize OUR America anymore. The only upshot I can see from this removal of OUR culture in favor of every other culture on the face of the earth, is that no one will want to come here any more since we will all be interchangable, cookie-cutter cultures all over the world. At least that is the utopian model. The first thing that has to go is anything relating even remotely to Judeo-Christian principals.

    Yes, it is their group and they can do as they wish. However, we can also do as we wish, and that can include boycotting, and voting with our wallet by taking our money elsewhere.

      It is officially just the “Y” now. Christian has been removed, as many of its inhabitants are homosexual. It had a religious tax exemption; I hope that has been removed.

      News this past summer showed some of its changes. We should reclaim OUR contributions to the land and buildings and force them to be auctioned off and given to a protestant Christian charity in America. I left out the Catholics because they owe so much on their sex debt. That is why the pope wants America to take all of the Illegal Aliens that are Catholic so they will help with the sex debt.

      The Irish Illegal’s and Mexican Illegal’s are all-Catholic and usually remain true to that. Ted Kennedy fought for all Catholics to be admitted to the USA regardless of law. We have other Irish descendant politicians protecting them now such as John McCain, John Cornyn, Schumer, Hutchison et al. No I am of Irish decent back around 1800 that part of my family arrived. My Scorch and Irish people helped make the Republic of Texas. My pappy with my surname arrived 1609 in VA.

      Why are the PC “religion haters” able to attack Christianity? Can it have anything to do with the deduction that it is impossible for God to inhabit a human body because the creative power of God is infinite, (Heb. Elohim = “unending=neverending”). God infused his energy into in infinitely small piece of matter (The Big Bang) and created space,time and the building blocks of the physical universe simultaneously.

      How could that possibly be contained in a physical body without destroying it? There are angels and the “Watchers” . the Watchers are the ones who have human form, but they too are created by God. In Genesis, when God says “Let us make man in our image” — this refers to the Watchers. (In Tanakh (Hebrew Bible) there are many names for God, each with its own atttributes). When three angels approached Abraham and he “knew which one was God” this means three of the Watchers came up to Abraham, and he knew which one was their leader.

      Only a propagandized PC Roman Empire population who had begun en masse to follow “The Prophet Yeshua” who taught adherence to the Seven Laws of Noah which is how the ancient world functioned.

      So what did Constantine do? He was the Nancy Pelosi of his day and wanted to maintain control of the people who embraced freedom and responsibility via the Noahide Laws. So he pulled a “deem and pass” like the Democrats. He declared Jesus to be God (thereby breaking the First Commandment) and declared himself a saint and King of the Church.

      Check your brain at the door when you are taught the revised history of conquerers!

      freedom is truly a wonderful thing. Some would use it as a tool to subvert. Every child yearns for the freedom from the oppressive parent that would dare to deny them candy. Should we fall to the first face pained child that cries freedom as a way to get to a candy jar. Is that distinction too subtle for you to grasp? Freedom is good but so is a moral code of conduct that may seem to limit it. Those codes of conduct may seem oppressive to you but they keep moral order.

      Santa is not a part of the religious meaning behind Christmas, but he is a tradition nontheless. Whether it is Santa Claus here or St. Nick in Europe, this is another tradition that has been kicked to the curb by political correctness. I don’t know why the Y is going along with it. Are they displaying anything connected with Christmas?

      Just today I went and canceled my gym membership at the Y.. and joined the local gym that Santa will attend and they say MERRY CHRISTMAS.. guess my $300 wasn’t enough to worry about NOT transforming my country.. I will be passing the word around.. PEOPLE are not taking nicely to this..

      It is their organization BUT every where God has been removed all morality has also left the place (ie our schools.) God was welcome when I attending elementary school but was thrown out of High School and things started going downhill and fast. No way I would let a child of mine attend a public school these days.

      First off, meathead, the YMCA was the Young Men’s Christian Association and many contributed to it for about 90 yrs as such. A few yrs back it was taken over by godless socialist humanist. When they did, they also absorbed the YWCA. It is just the YMCA now.

      I hope they are no longer entitled to the tax break. It has past its original intent and it should die in its tracks. No more donations people.

      It is true that Christmas was invented by the Pope as Christ Mass. This was to please the newly formed religion that absorbed all of the known pagan gods as well as few minor items of Christianity. They never embraced the teachings of Christ or his disciples, which became Apostles over a hundred yrs pre Catholicism. (Christians were still hiding and being tortured)

      The new pagan church of Constantine became known as Catholic, or translated “Universal” as it included all of the Pagans gods and themes of the times. Saturn-day = Saturday, Moon-day is Monday, and so on. The pointy hats and pointy shoes are all a part of that. They burned thousands of books; hide the rest in the Vatican. They taught in Latin so no one could understand. Nuns are prohibited from reading the holy bible and are not allowed to interpret it.

      I understand the Sun goddess became the statue for Mary. Constantine was only keeping his wife (who was taught by the teachings of Christ, pre Catholic) from being killed by the pagans and that is why he only included a small portion of Christianity. If it was not for his wife, there would not be a Catholic church and the Christian teachings of Christ Apostles would not have been twisted, hidden and diluted for almost two thousand yrs.

      I say celebrate Christ birth in the summer when He was born, and let the merchandisers go to hell in the winter with the other anti-Christ people. As Christians, we did make it a nice time of the year and what a wonderful tradition it has been saving for the ungodly shoving of retail.

      Racist to offset the Caucasian Christmas invented kwanza. The Jews Hanukah was never celebrated beyond Dec 9th and now all Dec is its season, just another racist ploy to control. Compare the Cinco de Mayo, it is not celebrated in the town where the battle was fought and is hardly noticed in Mexico at ALL. (The U.S. supplied an Army to stop the French in 1862 BTW) However, in America all of the Foreign Nationals now think they are better than American citizens are and try to push their countries heritage upon us. No assimilation, NO PEACE!

      Christ lives and we will celebrate it until HE returns.

      even when I celebrated christmas I didn’t do santa…didn’t want to lie to my kids right off the bat…BUT I find no offense in him around town during the holidays…I find no offense in people telling me merry christmas…just because I don’t want to participate in it…I have no right to stop others…if the Y doesn’t want a santa…and you don’t think thats right…don’t go to the Y…what is funny though is their name stands for young american christian associtaion…they’ll most likely change that soon…so there you go!

      The Young Men’s Christian Association should not have broken from their Christian roots at a minimum it is a betrayal of all the money and time churches, and Christians have donated to build the organization. The billions in land, assets and money should be given back to the donators if they want to drastically change what they are. If not for Christians there would be no ymCa that they now call just the Y.

I was trained in performance voice, ballet, painting, drawing, and several other endevors that required training and a lot of work and practice but am only a craftsman and a hardworker that enjoys what ever I set out to do.

      You artsy farze dudes are loosers and try to make something of yourself you aint. You have the sound of Conservative but you are a misled socialist in drag…MS Obamma and hollywood might like your pastime but I hate it and it should not be funded with any tax money whatsoever! Now unless you are Remington, M. Angelo, Kincaid, or Rembrandt go away…scrugge the ARTS they are destructive to America and its moral being

      Which mega church we have several and so does other states. Some of our cities have multiple huge churches.

      In the Civil War, the south only had one soldier for every 500 mislead yanks when the first shots were fired. At the end their were 1500 yanks (most sequestered as they walked off incoming migrant ships such as the Irish) to one southerner and we were winning until Lincoln allowed the burning of towns, houses, crops, and other things that were normally off limits. Lee would have NEVER stooped that low.

      Fighting units today like having southerners in them as we still pound for pound out do the rest…

      I am glad you are afraid of us for your sake it shows you have some sense. If you ever attack us, better find a place to spend eternity…We will not suffer another Yankee Reconstruction or Destruction under the rule of military law that allowed what Lincoln would not have allowed. Yes, I speak primarily of Carpet Baggers.

      Son-of-liberty, you are sorry for whatever caused me to stop believing in santa? Uh, I am a forty seven year old woman, maturity made me stop believing. I played the santa game for my child when he was little, but ALWAYS made sure he knew that Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Christ, not santa and presents. So as far as santa vs frosty? who cares? it will make the tots happy either way unless someone points out to them that something is different.

      Maybe we can cut all the taxpayer money that they get, then we can defund NPR, just look at all the money we can save it the next congress will start to trim fat from the budget.

      I don’t have to wait! I know right now. I knew the second I asked Christ into my life. I think the saddest part of knowing what I know is seeing the people who think they know better. yeah, they will find out soon enough. At the least there has got to be a Creator, an intelligent creator. Anthony Flew finally saw that for himself. So did C. S. Lewis. And many others. It is stupidity to think otherwise. So yeah…They will find out soon enough…I know now.

      I challenge ANYONE to show me in the Bible which book does it say that GOD, Lord Jesus or the Holy Spirit commands that mankind should celebrate Jesus’ birthday. I dare you!!!

      The Bible does not say! :-)

      But…Does that change anything? Or the fact that there is a 1 in twelve chance Christ was even born in December…Maybe considerably less when we examine the scant evidence we do have, such as the shepherds were out in the field or when we try to construct a timeline from Zacherias’ duty as High Priest…Or the fact that Christmas was started to try to get the new pagan Christians to focus on Christ and not their own rituals…

      Or the fact that today the American Christmas has turned into a cash cow for retailers…and cartoon creators who draw up Rudolfh, Frosty, the grinch, Charlie Brown…Or another excuse to release a fresh album of all the same old stale Christmas songs…Or best yet…The atheist‘s favorite time of the year when they can make themselves known just to annoy those silly Christians who think they can shove their religion down everyone’s throat by setting up manger scenes in public places in what was once a Christian country…Darn them pesky Christians anyway…

      Does it change anything? It is a time of year when we can all come together to celebrate our Savior’s birth. People can make anything else out of the holiday they like, as people tend to do. But it is the day we give special thanks that God sent His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth should not perish but have everlasting life. Humanity may take an axe and start swinging at the Christmas tree, but they cannot touch Christ! The more persecution the church receives the stronger it becomes! We have not felt serious persecution in quite some time in this country, and the church shows it. It has become weak and complacent. We need to take a few seconds this Christmas and thank the silly atheists like MrButcher for giving us something to rally around. That is why all these slights against Christmas is big news. They are serving to bring us together. I just pray that it can go beyond the short Christmas season. We need a little persecution! So thank you MrButcher! And all like you!

      And my Monday morning sermon is over…Amen….

      The never-ending war against Christianity… We’re losing our borders, our rule of law, our history, our language, our traditions, our very religion and for what? A brand new “One World Order.” No more borders, no more American sovereignty, no more national laws; just international laws, no more rugged individualism… We’re just one big fat “Global Society” on one big fat level playing field for a handful of “Global” leaders to rule… Just a bunch of peons dependent on our government as our new form of religion… We must fight for America or lose her as we know it…
