Politico Issues Correction After Palin Camp Bashes Authors for ‘Making Up’ Quote

News outlet Politico has been forced to issue a correction after two authors incorrectly attributed a damning quote to her in an opinion piece.
In an article that pits Palin vs. Rep. Michele Bachmann, authors Paul Goldman and Mark J. Rozell appear to catch Palin slamming Bachmann. Here it is in context, which is the third paragraph in the article:
Palin’s bus tour had some of the hallmarks of a primal scream: “I built this constituency, not Bachmann, not anyone else,” she said. Looking at it through her eyes, she has a point.
That’s a big deal. Considering the piece, that would appear to be the start of a word war between the two Tea Party favorites. But there’s just one problem. Palin never said it.
“An absurd opinion piece in Politico includes a quote attributed to Governor Palin that is a total fabrication and yet is deliberately written to appear as if it is a legitimate direct quote,” Palin’s camp said in a statement on her website. “By any standard this is unacceptable even for an opinion piece. This puts us in mind of a real quote of something Governor Palin actually did once say to the media: ‘Quit making stuff up.’”
Politico must have heard the Momma Grizzly’s roar. If you go to the piece now, the quotes have been removed and a statement appears at the end:
Palin has not yet responded to the correction. But I’m not sure she has to.

But sensationalism sells and they get paid by the # of hits, replies and forwarded articles (just like any other site). I would not put it past them or any other site to intentionally post “fireworks” articles and hire others to post dissenting views (like some of the so-called trolls on Blaze) so they can up their revenue by keeping an event from dying. For some reason we can’t seem to stop replying to the “trolls”. That’s human nature. It is also a money maker for the site’s owner.

Stuff like, I don’t know, Revere’s own account of that ride where he states that during his capture by the British that he warned them that they were in for a fight if they march on Lexington and Concord. Obviously Mrs. Palin knows that Paul Revere warned the colonists about the British, and she made a slip while saying it. What about Obama’s 57 states comment, or his “breathalyzer/inhalator” comment, or the thousands of Obama/Osama slips by public and media figures after Bin Laden was taken out? Does each have to address these slips when they occur when it’s obvious what the intent was? The confusion may come from the fact that a superficial understanding of the Paul Revere story, (which your historian appearantly has) might result in an opinion that Mrs. Palin was incorrect. However, a fuller, deeper understanding of the whole story, shows she was completely correct. “Critical thinker” I get it. It’s one of those opposite things, right?

The authors were simply speculating as to what may have been in Sarah’s mind, as she and Bachmann are potential rivals for the Republican nomination. Posted on June 10, 2011 at 12:59pmAny True Conservative needs to be very wary about Politico, as they are a left-leaning site. It really started going south at the very time Arlen Specter was booted. My membership was revoked after several posts regarding Alren Specter and the Tea Party. The reason for the revokation was a zealous admin who picked out about 10 posts and singled out a sentence and gave a generic reason (off topic) as to why the post was deleted. Apparently after about 10 in succession, the account is deactivated.
Politico is a RINO left-leaning site that is filled with liberal trolls. I have noticed some of the same names starting to show up on The Blaze.
If you dont want a left-leaning article, my advise is to stay away from that site. It is slanted and very ‘propaganda-ish’ in defense of progressive activities in government. The editors try to make it look like centerline news, but its really a horrible site from which to get news information, if you like unbiased reporting.

Not that I was much of a reader of theirs anyway, but what limited amount of sourcing I did get from them—they’ve lost forever. And I suggest everyone else do the same.

In fact. even the Blaze missed part of it; the words “she said” that was in the original article.
The original statement,cached and screencapped in dozens of places actually said:
“Palin’s bus tour had some of the hallmarks of a primal scream: ‘I built this constituency, not Bachmann, not anyone else,’ she said. Looking at it through her eyes, she has a point.”
It was characterized as a direct attribution although the authors had never spoken directly with Palin.
They admit as much in their retraction:
“An editing error caused a false attribution in an earlier version of this column. A comment by the authors was transformed into a direct quote from Sarah Palin. She never said the words attributed to her. Those words were written by the authors,”
There was no “editing error”. They LIED, pure and simple.
