Politico: White House Mtg. With Lobbyists at Off-Site Locations to Avoid Detection

Politico says it has uncovered a stubborn little detail about the Obama administration’s practices regarding meeting with lobbyists. Sources, including actual lobbyists, tell the news outlet the administration regularly meets with them outside the White House — in a nearby complex — in order to hide the meetings from visitor logs and the public.
Politico opens its report this way:
Caught between their boss’ anti-lobbyist rhetoric and the reality of governing, President Barack Obama’s aides often steer meetings with lobbyists to a complex just off the White House grounds — and several of the lobbyists involved say they believe the choice of venue is no accident.
It allows the Obama administration to keep these lobbyist meetings shielded from public view — and out of Secret Service logs kept on visitors to the White House and later released to the public.
Administration officials denied the allegation to Politico, saying that the meeting place in question — the Jackson Place complex (which is a group of row houses) just off Lafayette Square — has legitimate meeting rooms.
“The White House conference facilities are just that: facilities for large meetings. They are also an option when rooms inside the complex don’t have the capacity for a given meeting or are booked,” White House spokesman Reid Cherlin told Politico.
That’s true. According to administration, the extra meeting space is used when the White House is full or when there’s no time to clear attendees through security.
But at least four lobbyists involved in such meetings tell Politico “they had the distinct impression they were being shunted off to Jackson Place — and off the books — so their visits wouldn’t later be made public.”
“Without question, I think that there’s a lot of concern about being seen meeting with the same lobbyists or particular lobbyists over and over again,” one business lobbyist, who’s attended such meetings, told Politico.
Politico notes other reports that a nearby Caribou coffee shop also serves an off-site meeting place.
Considering Obama’s propensity to rail against lobbyists, some are confused and even offended.
“Lobbyists are particularly stung by what they see as a double standard,” Politico says, “with Obama bashing their profession as part of what’s wrong with Washington while his staff routinely sits down with lobbyists to discuss key issues.”
“When they need us, they call us. When they don’t, we’re evil,” another lobbyist told the news outlet, who has also been to Jackson Place meetings.
At least one lobbyist scoffs at the idea that the meetings take place outside the White House because of necessity.
“My understanding was they were holding the meeting there because it included several high-level business and trade association lobbyists,” a senior business lobbyist who attended a meeting about immigration reform last year recalled. “This was an effort to not have to go through the security protocols at the White House which could lead to the visitor logs at some point being released to the public and embarrass the president.”

Sounds like the typical tactics the administration and the progressives use; as since the meetings are just off the White House grounds, technically, they can claim not to be meeting with the lobbyist groups even though they are, and then denounce them when they are not needed.
To the administration, paranoia is becoming the normal behaviour, as is the delusional concepts of them getting away with everything they wish to do, regardless of law and precident.
To the administration, everyone now is becoming the enemy.

The list goes on…and is growing everyday, and the so called “media” says nothing… well nothing besides calling out those who question the lunacy of this administration…..so much for the “question authority” crowd

You know Chaz…I ask myself every single day, “Is it possible that those in the Beltway don’t know the things we know about Obama and the corruption?”…all I keep coming up with is that one of these mornings we will all awaken and find that he has been handcuffed and escorted out of the WH by our top Military brass and taken directly to jail where he belongs…. Surely to God they have blatantly broken laws of all kinds in order to bring about the destruction he has caused…they just aren’t that smart…this all seems absolutely surreal to me…

I think the issue people are having with it isn’t that only one side or the other uses them. It’s that this president will vilify them, make grandiose claims about transparency and how he is going to change the way business is done, then secretly do exactly what he excoriates/d others for doing. It is the blatant hypocrisy by him. Not a surprise for anyone here I think, but rather a slap in the face to those who have been pointing it out for 2 years now.

Posted on February 24, 2011 at 11:19pmThe MEN are all being bullied in the schoolyard. We have got to stop all of this. I have watched very closely from the moment we heard about Obama/Wright “church”. I did not vote for Obama. When he won I had an awful feeling we were doomed.
If I hear one more person say,” He does not know what he’s doing as president…blah blah” I’m going to scream….He knows exactly what he has been doing. We are too soft, too pc. Men/Women STAND UP to this insanity. Talk about this everywhere,,,family, friends, schools, stores, churches, soccer fields, parties, parks. Don’t be afraid to be the kill joy at the party. This is our country. I expect our MEN to LEARN, BUCK UP, and STAND UP TO THE EVIL.This is worse then the good ole boy network politics. Men will be physically defending their families soon and wish they would have stood up sooner.
By the way, my son was bullied several times at his school without any real concern for the bullying by the teacher. I walked right into that school and said you better make it stop or I’m going to every possible media outlet and complain about the way the behavior is not being handled in the classroom. The school/teacher then handled the situation perfectly.Yes, it took guts to confront the bully and the parents of the bully and say your son/daughter is being a jerk. If I had not shown my concern for my son nothing would have been done and he would still be bullied.
QUIT THIS TALKING ON AND ON. ENOUGH OF US KNOWN WHAT IS GOING ON. DO SOMETHING.
All MEN MUST STOP THIS NOW. THESE MEN IN THE ADMINISTRATION ARE ALL BEING BULLIED. THEY ARE NOW SUCKED IN TO THE MAFIA ADMINISTRATION. GET OUT NOW.
STAND UP MEN!!!!
