POLL: Almost 1/3rd of ‘Occupiers’ Say Violence Is OK

According to a poll published today in the Wall Street Journal, 31% of the protesters in Zucotti Park believe that violence is OK in order to advance their agenda.

From this stunning OP-ED piece from pollster Douglas Schoen we have learned the following about those who want us to believe that they represent 99% of the nation’s population:

  • 32% call themselves Democrats – 33% say that no party represents them
  • 25% probably will not vote in 2012
  • 52% have been politically active before
  • 98% support civil disobedience (that’s kind of obvious… if you’re camping in a city park for a month, guess what you’re doing?)
  • 15% are unemployed… meaning most have jobs
  • 51% disapprove of Obama’s performance
  • 48% claim that they will vote to re-elect the president

Schoen’s analysis of the protesters also includes his astute comparisons to the overall population, and a question as to why the President and the more left-leaning wing of the party are aligning with the movement:

Among the general public, by contrast, 41% of Americans self-identify as conservative, 36% as moderate, and only 21% as liberal. That’s why the Obama-Pelosi embrace of the movement could prove catastrophic for their party.

Consider that the very top level of the Democratic Party is openly endorsing the protests. Former President Clinton has called it “good positive debate.” President Obama claimed that Dr. King would support them as well.

Add to that fact, significant portions of the mainstream media are endorsing the occupations – Ed Schultz has promised to cover the story “until the last protesters go home.”

SEIU’s Stephen Lerner has been photographed marching with protesters in Chicago.

Van Jones appears to be looking for an opportunity to step in front of the crowds and lead them back to (his version of) the American Dream, he recently appeared with Ed Schultz:

Did you catch that? Mr. Jones said:

“…we should let the spirit of this movement co-opt the Democratic Party, the Republican Party, and the whole country; it’s the best thing in America right now.”

The best thing in America right now? Democratic pollster Douglas Schoen begs to differ:

Our research shows clearly that the movement doesn’t represent unemployed America and is not ideologically diverse. Rather, it comprises an unrepresentative segment of the electorate that believes in radical redistribution of wealth, civil disobedience and, in some instances, violence.

    The purpose of these demonstrations is to create the chaos required to justify the declaration of martial law and suspension of the Constitution. The wannabe tyrants will not accept compromise that does not advance the cause of chaos. Their plan is the use of force and violence to overthrow the Constitution and create a world with the tyrant uses the unbridled force against the individual.

    Any attempt to compromise with these wannabe tyrants will only result in increasing the length of the confrontation and make the final solution more painful!       You cannot disarm a criminal until he becomes a criminal or is caught in the comission of a crime. If a person is going about his day without harming anybody, who is armed, then he is not a criminal and cannot be disarmed.

      If you think that going door to door asking residents about their firearms is intended to disarm criminals, then you have some learning to do.

      If they knew who the “most violent criminals” were, then why are they JUST NOW going after them…AND asking people about their firearms?

      Why do they claim that their door-to-door fishing expedition confuses criminals in the area about who is snitching to the cops or not?

      Why must everyone get caught up in their dragnet fishing expo in cooperation with the CORRUPT ATF WHO JUST GOT CAUGHT SNEAK ATTACKING THE 2ND AMENDMENT because the local law enforcement is INCOMPETENT when it comes to preventing violent crime?

      They aren’t targetting “high crime areas’, that would mean the entire city of Cleveland…they’re targetting the so-called “most violent criminals”, which there is no way for them to know until they encounter them, or else they wouldn’t be on the streets, and if they are, THEN WHY ARE THEY ON THE STREETS?

      What does targetting the most violent criminals for outstanding warrants have to do with asking residents about what kind of firearms they own?

      You have something of a point in regards to “what kind of violence”. However I think it’s safe to say that when people answer “are you willing to use violence to advance a political cause” the respondee is probably not assuming that the questioner is asking “Will you go out and gently slap the hands of those with whom you disagree while playfully laughing”.

      Initiating violence against people not engaged in violence is wrong, it’s always wrong, it will never be right. The kind of violence is irrelevant. If you initiate violence you open yourself up to retalitatory violence, and you have no reason to expect your protest to those acting in self defense to be taken seriously.

      So, technically you have a minor point, which when taken into the argument as a logical consideration, means nothing to the whole of the argument.

      I so enjoyed studying the ancient Greek sophists. :)

    If anyone caught Fox and friends this morning, specifically an interview with Peter Johnson Jr., he was talking about the 300K the protesters raised and brought attention that the teachers union warehouse was storing supplies ( something Glenn has made it a point to discuss ). PJJ also metioned that in the warehouse are swim goggles, which he seemed oblivios to the fact of what are THOSE for? Well gee, do you think OWS is getting ready for violence??

      I didn’t see any swim goggles at the TEA party protests. Guess they didn’t think that they would be doing anything that would threaten the safety of the police.

      Another way of looking at it is that if you trust the character of people you surround yourself with knowing they are peaceful, law abiding and honorable people, you don’t need to be worried about pepper spray in the first place.

      If you read your history, socialists and fascists have long had a love affair with Islam. While the goals of the Jihad and Socialism/Nazism are wildly divergent, their enemies (free men and women) and their tactics are similar; a synergy exists between the two forces and is chronicled in the history books.

      Indeed, it was the Hitler regime which lamented their being saddled with the flabbiness of Christianity and envied the “warrior” nature of the muslims. Hitler employed muslims to kill for him during WWII.

      Lumbar – The Muslim Brotherhood was active in all the uprisings in the Middle East. There goals are sharia law and a caliphate for the 13th Imam to rule, just look at their stated objectives.
      The establishment of the caliphate and the appearance of the 13th Imam is their signal for world wide revolt and the establishment of Islam as the only religion.

      I got a .357 should the psycho’s come down my street with the intent to hurt me or mine no issues putting down animals, (only animals wouldn’t think about where they defecate but maybe animal is too nice, as even an animal prefers to be clean and not soil where it sleeps)
