Poll: National Race Relations Decaying During ‘Post-Racial’ Presidency?

The latest poll from Rasmussen Reports suggests that the public’s perception of black-white relations in America have fallen “dramatically” since the summer of 2009.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just 36% of voters now say relations between blacks and whites are getting better. That’s down from 62% in July of last year at the height of the controversy involving a black Harvard professor and a white policeman. That number had fallen only slightly to 55% in April of this year.

Twenty-seven percent (27%) now say black-white relations are getting worse, up 10 points from July 2009, while 33% think they’re staying about the same.

Despite a surge in confidence among African-Americans regarding the state of national race relations after the election of Barack Obama, voters’ perceptions about the state of black-white relations in America have fallen dramatically since the summer of 2009.

According to Rasmussen, voters are less optimistic regarding relations between whites, blacks and Hispanics.

Only 21% of all voters now think race relations between whites and Hispanics are improving, down seven points from April and down 19 points from last December. Fifty percent (50%) say they are getting worse, and 24% say they’re remaining about the same.

Similarly, just 16% say race relations between blacks and Hispanics are getting better. Thirty-four percent (34%) say they are worsening and 24% staying the same. However, 26% are undecided. These findings are basically unchanged from December.

Democrats and voters not affiliated with either major political party are more positive about black-white relations than Republicans are. Men are more optimistic than women.

In addition, 59% of African-American voters continue to believe the country is moving in the right direction — a view shared by just 27% of whites.

Overall, 69% of voters nationwide describe the U.S. society as fair and decent, while just 20% view it as unfair and discriminatory.

    The book “ATLAS SHRUGGED” was published in 1957 and proves that all of Obama’s programs are false and will lead to poverty and despair. Was “ATLAS SHRUGGED” racist when it was published in 1957 or did it become racist when Obama finally told us what the “CHANGE YOU CAN BELIEVE IN” actually was?

    How funny–blame glenn beck? I don’t remember him winning any office or legislating any bills nor has he told us how\who to vote for. Could the tensions maybe come from the dept. Of justice sue az. Impose moratorium on gulf provide large amounts of money to our enemies(palastine)..open his mouth and insert foot with all the islamist attacks during his tenure not to mention calling us teabaggers expect that from huffpo trolls not a president why does he call former president george bush but president clinton or carter I think buttock obummer is the main reason for racial tensions.     This is for RonaldReagan1980 – I think you wandered onto the wrong site. Didn’t you intend to be on HuffingPoo or DailyCrock? If you didn’t I have a few words for you – The color of Barry’s skin is just about the only thing I like about him. His legislative record and his thoughts on wealth re-distribution preceeded him to the polls. The Tea Party is a reaction to his politics and not his color. The frrst reaction was drawn by Bush and TARP. You are behind the times when you call people “rasist” because it doesn’t work any more. We know who we are, what we are and why we are.

    For everyone else – I’m white and most of my friends are black. I am seeing a move towards Conservativsm within my circle of friends.

    Knowing that MOST blacks vote Democratic and MOST Latino’s who are here ILLEGALLY do also ( in Chicago/IL they look the other way.. however most ILLEGALS have voters cards since the alderman;s father gave the illegals a deal on them).. one would think the conservatives who are black/Latino would try to educate their peers..As it is I am trying to educate those of my peers who I can by planting a seed.. starting a discussion and I am aiming at those who are in the 18-35 age group.. who actually voted for OBAMA.. You would be surprised how they are OFF his band wagon.. Since most of those who surround me are generational Democrats I am shocked at the ease they are turning (even the older ones).. I really like Herman Cain but after Obama people MAY be gun shy so to speak we need a few more conservatives who do the RIGHT THING to convince people that it’s the person NOT the COLOR.. Myself I am supporting a very nice black conservative women in the local elections.. I have no problem with ANYONE who runs.. as long as they have good values and morals..

      Isn’t this sad!! During the 2008 campaign I really listened to the left and heard the rhetoric that was being thrown around–and my comments on message boards in 2008 were: “I lived through the 60s and I don’t want to go back!! Well, we haven’t gone back to the 60s like they were–I was young then, but I don’t remember people saying MLK, Jr. was destroying our country!! BUT, we can’t go around making BLANKET statements about Black People–it makes us sound just like the progressives with their vile blanket statements. We have some very intelligent, conservative Black people who are more appalled at this President than people who are not Black–and some of them fight much harder battles with their families and friends than non-Blacks have to. We must keep our perspective and not get down and roll in the mud with the left!!!!

    There was a poll done a while back measuring what percentage of whites were racists.

    One question asked of the white participants was,”As a whole,are African Americans less educated and more prone to criminal acts than white people?”
    Now if one looks at test scores and prison populations the answer is,of course,yes.Naturally,the reasons for these unfortunate statistics have nothing to do with race but with poor choices and negative influences.
    Still,“Yes” put you in the “racist” category.
    The test was more effective at measuring one’s liberal/conservative ideology or fear of being politically incorrect than anything else.
    Politically incorrect conservative has long meant racist to the Left–now incorrect politically is racist.

      Well there may be some truth to that, but blacks voted nearly 90% democrat before Obama. That smacks of voting for government handouts. It‘s sad that they don’t recognize the incalculable damage that the dems have done to them in spreading, and constantly reinforcing, victim mentality instead of the incredible opportunity this nation offers. This racial divide didn’t have to happen. Blacks in this country are entrapped on the government plantation, put there by liberal/progressive democrats to support their Marxist agenda; and now they are trying to do the same thing to hard working Hispanics.       It makes me ashamed for Detroit (and all fellow Michiganders) everytime I think about that woman talking about getting her “Obama money”.       As soon as our economy crashes and black and white are poor together, race relations will improve tremendously as we dump the socialists, together.

      Review (and support) http://www.RagingElephants.org in educating blacks (and minorities) that we really are already conservative brothers and sisters.

      For race to not matter, we must BEHAVE as if it doesn’t matter. Perhaps nominating Herman Cain as the Republican candidate for President in 2012 will help do that.

      We both know the answer to that one…most of this is the hippie generations fault. They’ve managed to erode race relations in a bitter attempt to control people. It’s that communist belief that there is the “oppressed” and the “oppressor”.
