Pork Survives: Senate Rejects Earmarks Ban

WASHINGTON (The Blaze/AP) — The Senate has rejected a GOP bid to ban the practice of larding spending bills with earmarks — those pet projects that lawmakers love to send home to their states.
Democrats and a handful of Republicans combined to defeat the effort, which would have effectively forbidden the Senate from considering legislation containing earmarks like road and bridge projects, community development funding, grants to local police departments and special-interest tax breaks.
Earlier this month, Republicans bowed to tea party activists and passed a party resolution declaring GOP senators would give up earmarks. House Republicans have also given up the practice, but most Democrats say the earmarks are a legitimate way to direct taxpayer money to their constituents.
The legislation would have established an earmark moratorium for fiscal years 2012 and 2013, and also would have covered the fiscal year that began on Oct. 1, The Hill reports.
“I believe I have an important responsibility to the state of Illinois and the people I represent to direct federal dollars into projects critically important for our state and our future,” Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill) said.
The eight GOP senators who voted to preserve earmark spending include: Thad Cochran (Miss.), Susan Collins (Maine), James Inhofe (Okla.), Dick Lugar (Ind.), Lisa Murkowski (Alaska), Richard Shelby (Ala.), retiring Sen. George Voinovich (Ohio) and defeated Sen. Bob Bennett (Utah) also voted against it.
Six Democrats voted for the earmark moratorium, including: Sens. Claire McCaskill (Mo.), Bill Nelson (Fla.), Colorado Sens. Michael Bennet and Mark Udall, as well as retiring Sen. Evan Bayh (Ind.) and defeated Sen. Russ Feingold (Wis.).

The relevant words here. Also note “and a handful of Republicans” in fact an entire basket load, helped passed the Take Away Our Food bill. You can count on the Dems to be tyrants, that’s a given. If anybody thinks that most of GOP is really on our side, they’re going to be sadly awakened to reality after 1/1.
They‘re already saying that they’re going to “keep” certain parts of Nazicare (the GOP).

If our society lasts until 2012 (going down the tubes at breakneck speed) it will be ‘Katie bar the door!’ Oh, how right our Founding faters were. Big government=decreased liberty. In election years, give them a break between Nov 2 and Jan 1. No more Lame Ducks! Give feshman orientation during the break. There should never be buisness conducted on the Hill by folks who have lost an election – no where else on the planet fires an employee, then lets them continue to make decisions for the company for two more months waiting for thier replacement.

Evan Bayh, who incidentally voted to stop earmarking has been a rubber stamp for the Obama administration. The only reason he voted against earmarking is because he wants to appear conservative so he can run as a moderate for the governorship of Indiana.

Posted on November 30, 2010 at 2:30pmI’m starting to see why Obama was so congratulatory to his Party.
Stop compromising!
The issue with earmarks was never due to its ability to pay down the deficit, though one can envision a scenario in which earmarks can become a large chunk of it.
The reason earmarks are bad is because they’re redistributive in nature. Other states paying for another State’s pet projects is theft.
The fact that our elected officials think a SINGLE PENNY is an ok amount to spend on earmarks reveals the fact that they don‘t realize that IT’S OUR MONEY. If I don’t benefit from the tax dollars I pay, then that is theft. This is true of every single person who pays taxes.

The way the Constitution was written specifically to make sure they could not do what they are doing. Ignoring the ones who put them in office. I hear that it can be done legally. That’s what we should be doing now. Come up with a REVERSAL BILL. Undo everything Obama and his cronies, including Republicans, have done that have crushed Capitalism. I’d like to see a new tax code, such as a Flat Tax or a Fair Tax instituted, but then if that happens, some politicians will be out of a job. Hey, here’s a great idea! Look at how much money we could save to help pay down the national debt. I think politics now is so deeply entrenched with corruption that we may never get out from under. I wish the American people, as a whole, would create a grass-roots organization that raised enough money to go to the Supreme Court with a MAJOR lawsuit in favor of A WASHINGTON POLITICAL OVERHAUL. I would like to see the life of each of these political dumbbells unfold before the American people to prove to them that they are evil and crooked. I’d like to see Washington cleaned up and all the trash put out on the streets. I’d like to start with Ms Pelosi, Mr. Reid and Obama and then go from there.
