Portland School District Bans Selling Coke…the Soft Drink

If you thought Michael Bloomberg’s attempt to crack down on soda was bad, wait til you get a load of this story from Fox Nation.

The Portland, Maine school district has apparently decided, for no apparent reason, that the iconic soft drink Coca Cola is an offense against nature. And for that reason, they have moved to ban the sale of the drink at football games.

Portland, Maine School District Bans the Sale of Coke, Potato Chips and Buttered Popcorn at Football Games

A chilling image of dangerous contraband

And that’s not all. The school also apparently has banned the sale of potato chips and buttered popcorn, instead instructing its students to eat (wait for it) baked tortilla chips, reduced fat string cheese, and hummus. At a football game.

Screenshots of the school’s policy can be viewed below:

“We’re taking it to another level,” Chanda Turner, Portland’s school health coordinator, told Fox News. “We’re not going to sell soda and it doesn’t matter who it’s to.”

“We are not making any restrictions on personal choice,” she added. “The only thing we are affecting is – what are we as a school system going to sell or provide.”

Eating healthy at football games is unamerican. Proud to live in the south where we still treasure football and good concession stands (in moderation of course)

This is 100% the product of gutless d-baggery on the part of the so-called “leadership” at the school. No one wants to have to stand in front of a whining parent to say, “Look, if you don’t want to eat it, then don’t eat it.”

      Or

“Hey, if you don’t want your kid to eat crap, and if you don’t trust him to make good choices, then don’t let him attend the game.”

      It’s pretty simple.

Ok, I kinda get the restrictions in the school cafe, but at football games on a friday night? Most concession stands are run by boosters,(volunteer parents). All of the proceeds go to support the team, since schools are cutting back!!! Those sales & attendance are going into the toilet!!!! People are going to smuggle stuff in, or just eat before the game!! Dont we want our kids active in sports, cheerleading,or just getting out of the house for a social event? Good Job Food Nazi !!!!!

In a related story, the district has also agreed to stop teaching the constitution and history that has not been edited. They will however deliver condoms and teach the joys of anal sex. When the principal was asked about this policy he said, “You’re welcome.”

The district does hand out condoms and has “health centers” which are not “required” (or “allowed” because of HIPPA) to hand out birth control to girls of any age. The only “consent” needed is for them to go to the clinic.

I agree with you. In the cafeteria there is no reason we should have crap for kids to eat. But, at night games and after-school activities, there is nothing wrong with the sale of junk food as that is what people eat at these activities.

We’ve become enslaved to big companies who will pay for that sports sign IF we put in their vending machines in the cafeteria. I say screw the sign … we’ll do it the old fashioned way.

I am so tired of liberals, they need to STOP trying to control everything everyone does. They are so opposed to choice unless it involves the killing of a baby. They don‘t think people should be able to chose to drink a coke but they think it’s okay for people to chose to take an innocent life. Their logic is quite disturbing.

Good Grief. The food police are just annoying. Punish all to force the “baddies fattys” to comply.Sorry, no hate against the overweight – I share that with you. And don’t send me a reply to loose weight and quite complaining. I think people should be able to buy and eat what they want. Schools make money of the pop and snack machines so now the revenue will go down and be prepared for the tax levy to raise money for the district since they lost that “snack” revenue.

The school is totally wrong, but I see their point. Parents, in too many cases, are allowing their adolescent and pre-adolescent children to become morbidly obese. Fat teenagers hobbling about place to place and apparently they, nor their parents are taking appropriate steps to fix the worst health problem in recent American history. It becomes a public problem when fat kids are having heart attacks and diabetes rates are rising. Someone has to pay for all of that “personal choice”.

Back in the late 60′s/early 70′s when I was going to school, there was no pop or snack machines at school and there were obese kids, how did they get that way?? At that time school lunches were made in the school not shipped in pre-made and families ate home prepared meals together as families…it is not the food or drink, but the eating habit….many juices have as many sugar calories as soda, and since the nation has bought into the “low-fat’ to “no fat” diet obese levels are rising….this overreach as well as overreach by Obamacare is about control..wait until the health choice is what side order of bugs do you want with your veggie salad…

I just want to say up front I respect your opinion. I do feel that you are not looking at it all points of view.

Argumentatively there is no gay gene.
Well supposedly there is no fat gene.
However, if you ask around you will see two kids from the same parents:
      One taller, one smaller
One pear shaped one say pencil bodied
and yes, one thin and one fat.
Fat to some is defined as a girl with a muffin top a J-Lo butt or Full Figured
Clearly our concern, for some reason here is full figured are the blame for mass obesity

I can attest that I have seen two people through the years in my family and others be served the same size and in the end, one was fuller than the other….
I watched them work their arse off, join gyms exercise till they collapse and in the end, still be full figured while the other ate like a pig, never got off the couch and actually lost weight.

I say that only to say this:
For the left and anyone who isnt educated properly about obese people and the ACTUAL fall to accuse and label obese people as an overall blame is not only wrong but appaling.

      In short, I disagree….
No soda, its the fat kids fault?
      What a croc.

More like no soda! Big Brother said so.

When are these idiots going to realize not selling the stuff won’t help reduce fat people. They will get their fatty foods other ways. It only takes an occasional special treat for others who don’t buy the fatty foods except for at games. Besides they need to re-evaluate the BMI and make it more accurate, I don’t think really healthy muscular people like being told they are obese when there is no fat on their bodies.

I’d be a lot happier if: 1. California didn’t serve up so much more in taxes than it receives in return benefits to keep the crackers in the red states on their welfare. 2. The tax-exempt status for any and all religious organizations was discontinued forever. More of the world’s problems are due to organized religion…why are they getting any tax benefits???

You want us west-coasters to jump into the ocean? Now you might understand why I have NO SYMPATHY for the farmers who are losing their hind ends in the middle of the country and the idiot South. I, luckily, was born in northern California, where we have plenty of water in the reservoirs despite a shy rainfall this past season. We have have plenty of corn too…downright cheap when I was at the store today.
