Possible Drone Spotted in Chicago Suburbs in Preparation for NATO Summit — See the Video

With dignitaries and world leaders getting ready to descend upon Chicagoland for the NATO Summit, the security measures being implemented for their protection and to control protesters are extensive.

We’ve already seen Blackhawk helicopters with armed men weaving between high rises in what was called a routine training exercise — although some questioned if it was in preparation for the summit — and now there has been a possible drone sighting the week before the event, which begins May 20.

The local CBS affiliate noticed a video posted on YouTube Sunday showing what is described by the narrator as “an odd little plane” in the suburb Elgin, which is 40 miles from Chicago. Watch the video:

The sky is overcast and whatever is flying is difficult to see, but here are a couple screenshots.

The YouTube poster zoomed the video in and inserted this drone as a comparison. (Image: YouTube Screenshot)

Some comments on the YouTube video speculate it is a fake, while others take it at face value. Here are a few of the reasons some think it’s a farce:

  • ericlw: Fake. First the lighting on the drone is wrong. Second, the drone does not move at all just goes in a straight line.
  • L4c3rt4: The camera movement appears to be a bit unrealistic. Im not a video analyst expert, but i have seen enough fake UFO videos with almost the same kind of camera movement – obvious sign of editing.
  • pickelurweapon: Fake. It’s obvious in the trajectory from left to right across the screen.
  • Digitaleye31: It’s fake. It‘s moving too fast and it’s shining on a cloudy day…not to mention it’s my job to fly them.

What are your thoughts?

Its a turbo prop driven aircraft the predator is. Which means it is powered by a gas turbine, which can have a little roar to it.

I read somewhere that those 100mw laser pointers can “blind” a drone. Be a shame if a bunch of people started pointing them at these drones.

Some Patriot should shoot it down and become a hero. Wait until they are armed.

These spy craft will be operating in droves over TEA party rallies. Radio remote control toy aircraft will become popular now as anti-drone tools.

The Predator is a prop driven aircraft and what I am hearing in the video is the sound of a jet engine. Now there was either a passenger jet flying in close proximity to the alleged drone or the person perpetrating the fake video got the audio portion wrong.

I do not believe it is fake. I live south east of Chicago. From 9 am yesterday morning the skies were filled with military flights. I brought my daughter outside to see the chem-trails or contrails. The sky was completely covered in a criss cross pattern of evenly spaced trails. I have no doubt that this drone picture is true. It was just strange outside yesterday, and we could see no commercial flights.

It’s completely fake. The first few seconds of the video is real but when it turns to look in the sky the zoom on the camera is unnatural, the flight of the aircraft is very unnatural, and the lighting on the aircraft is unnatural. Look, the tilt of the aircraft and the corresponding flight pattern should raise red flags for anyone who watches this. The aircraft is in a banking position but it continues to fly straight. It’s also moving way to fast in comparison to how far away it is from the camera. That thing would need to be jet powered to move that fast.

100% fake. just a snapshot is enough to show this to anyone who really knows what they are looking at. calm down people. even if it was a real video, its just a plane, nothing more nothing less. Also, for the record everyone, its not a drone. its a predator “UAV, UAS”, there is a difference.

The level of ignorance of some people astounds me. No.1, the video is without question fake. i can tell this from the picture alone, i didnt need to watch a single second of the video. I dont blame the average person for not knowing this though. the ignorant part i was referring to is the idea that our rights are being trampled any more than the are already simply by having a predator in the sky (its not a drone by the way. the video is of a predator, common mistake) These planes are not some “super dooper spy machine”. They are in no way any more menacing than a helicopter except they can stay airborne longer. Some people on this page need to calm down and realize that if nothing else, we should welcome the predator as a replacement to the helicopter. its cheaper and would waste less tax dollars than a helicopter does. Its no more a “machine of war” than a jeep or a hummer. We use the tools we have to effectively fight a war. When stateside, the are no different than any other vehicle. i am clueless as to where this stigma and fear of UAV’s, UAS’s and drones come from. They are a wonderful platform capable of saving millions upon millions of tax payer dollars.

Although it would not surprise me that the security preparations might include the Predator drone for eyes in the sky, there are 2 reasons this video is fake.

    1) Plane moving WAY too fast. I’ve seen these little fellas fly near Las Vegas, and they are butt slow. They have a little prop and are designed for gas-savings and they move very slowly. The rate the one in the video moves is unbelievable.

    2) The one in the video is armed with hellfire missles. That is highly unlikely. If it was used for eyes in the sky, it would not be armed. There is no way the AF would allow a drone on a training flight over a civilian population like Chicago to carry live missles. Armed versions might be seen over training ranges for target practice, but those are located in remote areas. No chance the AF would risk a crash with a live missle making things worse.

The MAN may be overstepping with the drones, but common people, they aren’t completely stupid. Some AF folks might even care about the nation and its citizens. If you believe the AF is actually going to use a drone to fire hellfire missles on a target in a US city, please take off the foil hat and take your meds.

Fake because the guy filming just “happnened” to start filming the empty sky when this flew into view?
Fake because if you wer randomly filming empty sky and you saw this, you would follow it until it was gone not just zoom in for 1 second then look away.
