President Obama ‘Campaigns’ to Reinvigorate Jewish-American Support

President Obama Launches Campaign Initiatives to Reinvigorate Jewish SupportIs the GOP’s District 9 upset evidence that President Barack Obama is losing favor among Jewish Americans? While prominent Democrats say no, others disagree vehemently.

Some, like strategist Dick Morris, have been warning about about an Obama-Jewish implosion for some time now.

As the dust settles on the special election that took place on Tuesday to replace Rep. Anthony Weiner following his infamous photo scandal, some believe that Obama’s anti-Israel policies helped to fuel the unprecedented GOP win. Considering the large number of Jews in the district, this assumption may very well be valid.

There’s no doubt that something has changed for the president among a demographic that offered such stellar support during the last campaign cycle (nearly eight in 10 Jewish Americans voted for him in 2008). The only question now is: How will Obama and his re-election campaign respond to this change?

Following what can only be called a period of complicated relations with Israel, some Democrats fear that the president has a uphill battle courting Jewish Americans who have otherwise widely supported more liberal candidates in the past.

From the 2008 campaign through today, Obama has fought critics on the notion that he is Jimmy Carter reincarnated — a particularly unflattering label considering Carter’s inability to secure a second term. Thursday morning, The New York Times again drew a potential connection between the two politicians. In the lede to the Times article journalist Mark Landler writes:

Not since Jimmy Carter in 1980 has a Democrat running for president failed to win a lopsided majority of the Jewish vote. This has been true during times of peace or war, and even when there has been deep acrimony between the White House and the Israeli government.

It’s possible, all things considered, that 2012 could look an awful lot like 1980. Both the Obama campaign and Democratic officials recognize this looming problem, as both parties have set out to change the image the administration has among Jewish voters.

The Democratic National Committee has established a Jewish outreach initiative and circulated talking points to clarify Obama’s stances. The president’s re-election team has even put together a group of surrogates who will purportedly pen op-eds to help smooth over Jewish American opinion. Landler continues:

And the White House is drawing attention to recent expressions of gratitude from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other Israelis after Mr. Obama intervened last Friday to help prevent violence after a mob attacked the Israeli Embassy in Cairo, threatening the Israeli diplomats inside.

And who could forget AttackWatch.com, where the president’s re-election campaign touts Obama’s “ironclad commitment to Israel’s security.” You’ll find the following (notice Media Matters being touted as a viable source):

But will these initiatives be enough? Will the president’s actions end up speaking louder than his words? As the campaign attempts to fix the electoral conundrum it finds itself in among American Jews, there are other groups mobilizing to paint Obama’s Israel policies in a negative light.

Earlier this month, The Blaze covered the Emergency Committee for Israel’s New York City-focused ad campaign that seeks to show that Obama is anti-Israel.

With the Palestinian Authority using Obama’s own words against him, with a history of scolding America‘s strongest Middle Eastern ally and with increasingly telling evidence that there’s a political cost to his more hardline treatment of Israel, the president may, once again, be getting compared to Carter come 2012.

      I think even ardent Obama supporters are just beginning to see, finally, that there really isn’t anything to all this hopey changey rhetorical nonsense. This President is a divider when he said he would bring people together. This President is as partisan as they come when he said he would see to it that Washington worked together. Constantly creating an atmosphere of hate towards the rich, big business, republicans, George W Bush or whatever does nothing to bring people together. This man never wants to take responsibility for anything that doesn’t make him look like a superstar, he just wants to blame, blame, blame.

      And when it actually comes to leadership, he has none. The only thing this man has ever done has been to organize mobs to intimidate banks in the Chicago area into giving people loans that they could not afford. Unfortunately for him, that kind of thuggery doesn‘t work on a national level because the rest of the nation isn’t as corrupt as Chicago politics, even though it’s slowly getting there.

      The Jewish people are finally on to you Mr Soetoro, you are like the whiny child on the playground that really isn’t big enough to be the baddest bully, but he thinks he is. He wants everything to you go his way and even demands it, but when it doesn’t he just cries like a baby. You’ve been discovered for what you are Mr President, you haven’t done anything for our country, you haven’t created any job but a government job, you are a fraud!

Khaleidi is a Columbia University Professorer of Arab Studies, and the former spokesperson for the PLO terrorist group responsible for the murder of 12 Israeli olympic contenders in the 1980′s. There was great speculation about the closed door diinner that he and Obama attended before the elections. It was rumored that there were dancers their emulating beheadings. But I am quite sure the need for secrecy extended far beyond that.

    Unbelievable! Here we are, 60 years after we supported creation of the Jewish state and decent, Constitutional Americans, taxpayers, veterans are concerned that the Jews in this country will repudiate their action in the recent election and support Pretty Boy Obama. As you recall, 80% of American Jews supported Obama in 2008. 80%! He only got 94% of the Africans!

    I read the comments and they seem to indicate that we are feeling like we are being held hostage by these blind-in-one-eye, one-issue, ME-FIRST minorities. Mayor KOCH said he delivered the Queens Jews to an anti-Obama vote and he can deliver them back to Obama, if Obama changes his tune. (Dance, Barry, dance, give us a tune Barry…)

    I, for one, am not a hostage in my own country. If you don’t get it, you soon may.

    Obama or Carter the worst presidents in the history of the US and finally,with the help of Glenn Beck, the American public is hearing the truth about Obama’s Marxist regime.

    Liberal or Progressive today means throwing Israel under the bus. First these people want to destroy Israel and at the same time their agenda is to do the same thing to the United States. Obama won’t be satisfied until a hammer and sickle flag flies over America.

      The worst president in our time however I would argue that Wilson and FDR were far worst presidents that either Carter or Obama. And Lincoln torn chunks out of the Constitution as well.

    if one Jew votes for this nut case they need to have their head examined. For three years he has shown his love for Palestine and his distaste for the Jew. Now he wants to begin his pandering campaign by sucking up to the Jews. Well, if you fall for that you are an idiot and deserve what you get from this jerk. Same as he does everywhere he goes. He is like a camelion. He is one thing to one person and something else to another. The true sign of someone who is really for no one is that he is for everything, when its convenient.     Pres. Obama is going to have to put his spin machine into overdrive if he thinks he can undo the damage he’s caused to the Jewish Americans and our Israel Ally…

    I don’t think any amount of spin this White House tries will change that, and I wouldn’t give Pres. Obama so much as an inch of support with his hostile attitude towards Israel and his support of the whole destabilization of the Middle East which in turn could put all of Israel at risk…

    I’m pretty sure he made his viewpoints clear about the Jewish. Like all of the modern presidents, he is a tool. Like a shovel. Blades, but is very dull. But he was the “black” savior. Next will be the “woman” savior. I’m not racist, nor chauvinist, just a realist. I would not vote, white, black, woman, man, Christian, Muslim, alive, dead. Politicians are the corruption at the heart of this country. The sooner we realize this, the sooner we can fix this. Name the last politician who fulfilled ALL of his promises.
