Speaking at a fundraiser in California on Monday night, President Obama touted his economic policies, saying ”we tried our plan — and it worked,” The Washington Examiner reports. At the same time, Obama dismissed presumptive GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney’s proposed tax cuts and spending cuts as the same Bush-style “top down” economic policy that have failed in the past.
“We tried that and it didn’t work,” Obama said of Romney’s plan. ”Just like we’ve tried their plan, we tried our plan — and it worked,” he added later in his address.
“That’s the difference. That’s the choice in this election. That’s why I’m running for a second term.”
Understandably, you may be confused. After all, the national unemployment rate is stuck at 8.2 percent and the unemployment rate in Oakland, Calif. — where the president delivered the remarks — was a disastrous 13.7 percent in May 2012.
But that didn’t stop Obama for taking credit for saving the U.S. economy. He pointed to the bailout of the auto industry as proof that his economic policies have “worked.”
“I refused to turn my back on a great industry and American workers,” he said. “Three years later, the American auto industry has come roaring back.”
The Washington Examiner’s Joel Gehrke called the comments,President Obama’s “Mission Accomplished moment on the economy,“ referring to the huge ”Mission Accomplished” sign that stood behind former President George W. Bush in a 2003 speech, seemingly declaring the war on terror won.
The Washington Examiner has more on the auto bailouts:
Obama’s auto bailouts aren’t the unalloyed success he describes. “President Obama’s auto task force pressed General Motors and Chrysler to close scores of dealerships without adequately considering the jobs that would be lost or having a firm idea of the cost savings that would be achieved, an audit of the process has concluded,” The New York Times reported in 2010, based on an audit. “The report … estimated that tens of thousands of jobs were lost as a result.”
The Washington Examiner’s Conn Carroll also observes that Obama bailed out union pensions, while neglecting non-union workers, and decided not to follow the law by paying certain creditors — and still didn’t save money.
“All told Obama’s violations of bankruptcy law made the bailout of GM and Chrysler $26.5 billion more expensive than it had to be,” Carroll explained recently. “And according to Obama’s own Treasury Department, taxpayers stand to lose $23 billion if GM stock were sold today.”
Even some of Obama’s own colleagues disagree that the economy has been saved or that the worst is over.
“The economy has not recovered,” Rep. Henry Waxman, (D-Calif.) said in a recent interview with the Washington Examiner. “Some people call it a recession, I think it’s a depression.”

Yeah those pesky facts are hard to deal with for the GOP. The party of recession hardly has a leg to stand on and bash Obama for his economic policies. Posted on July 24, 2012 at 2:34pmApparently, you had a hard time reading the first time on facts!
For the record, the last budget from a Republican President AND a Republican Congress – FY-2007 (passed in 2006) – resulted in a$161 billion deficit at a time when unemployment was 4.6%. That’s what happened the last time the GOP was in control.
What happened when the Democrats took control in January 2007? Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi passed a FY-2008 budget that had a $459 billion deficit – nearly three times the deficit in the immediately previous Republican-passed budget. Three times. And this before the financial crisis that somehow “necessitated” all this massive spending. Now, that’s an increase under Democrat control. But, the best is yet to come!!!
The Democrats passed a FY-2009 budget with a staggering, mind-boggling, totally reckless $1.42 TRILLION deficit. The FY-2010 budget approved by Reid and Pelosi and signed by Obama had an estimated $1.6 TRILLION deficit. The deficit has increased from $161 billion in the last budget before Democrats took control of the Congress (FY 2007) to $1.42 trillion in the most recent fiscal year (FY 2009)—an increase of $1.26 trillion or 782%.With three months remaining in the fiscal 2009 budget, the federal deficit just officially passed the $1 trillion mark.
Worse yet, Obama borrowed more than forty cents for every single dollar he spent. We also suffered a budget shortfall of $94 billion in the month of June, which marks the fir

At the time:
The DOW Jones closed at 12,621.77
The GDP for the previous quarter was 3.5%

BANKING AND FINANCIAL SERVICES!
Unemployment… to this CRISIS by (among MANY other things) dumping 5-6 TRILLION Dollars of toxic loans on the economy from YOUR Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac FIASCOES!
Bush asked Congress 17 TIMES to stop Fannie & Freddie – starting in 2001 because it was financially risky for the US economy.

And who fought against reform of Fannie and Freddie? OBAMA and the Democrat Congress

Posted on July 24, 2012 at 10:21pmWrong again, Reagan did not give us massive debt, Reagan was able to bankrupt Russia by building up our military and by manipulating OPEC into pumping more oil, thus lowering the price of crude oil and Russia ability to keep pace with the US build up.
When he then relented and allowed for tax increases to pay off the debt from the military biuldup. The democrats should have paid off the debt , but no they needed to create more entitlement programs in order to get re elected. It wasn’t enough that Reagan gave the people the most growth economically in the history of the US and gave every American an opportunity to work if they wanted to, no the their needed to be more spending on abortion, welfare and unemployment.
Let’s face the facts, if democrats don’t bring the entitlements to the lazy and government contracts to the unions, democrats would never get elected to public office. Your enability as a party to have sound economical practices is over run by the need to feed the re election beast of your constituients.

“Well lets see, under Reagan we did have job growth ( but most with any economic background will point to reduction of feds fund rate for growth ) but ended with a massive deficit.”
Your definition of massive is apparently different than mine. Under Reagan in 1985, 1986, & 1987 the deficit as a percentage of GDP went down as follows: 1985 – $354.45 billion, 1986 – $357.365 billion, 1987 – $238.4544 billion. Based on your wording – $238 billion is massive.
Now, let‘s look at President Obama’s deficits, since we’re blaming presidents for spending and not the congresses that were in power during such times. Under Obama in 2009, 2010, & 2011 the deficit as a percentage of GDP has gone up almost more than Reagan’s total for 1987. Here are the numbers : 2009 – $1.268 TRILLION, 2010 – $1.321 TRILLION, 2011 – $1.477 TRILLION.
Please pull your head out.

Posted on July 24, 2012 at 1:49pmWell, that’s the problem; obama was elected with the singular goal of destroying America from within, and he has been wildly successful in implementing at least one aspect of his plan, which is destroying the U.S. economy. We must recognize the simply fact that obama is a sworn enemy of America.
If we are to survive as a nation, obama must be removed from power.

Posted on July 24, 2012 at 2:01pmCouple that with the illegal “bankruptcy” that redistributed many millions from the bondholders (both secured and unsecured) and it fits right in with Barry’s theft from those that own and invest to those that rent and consume.

Posted on July 24, 2012 at 1:47pmTruth is the president will say anything to anyone to get re-elected. It is about getting elected = power. that is the concern of those who run for office.

Posted on July 24, 2012 at 2:09pmI liked Beck’s opening this a.m. about getting rid of the two parties. I only wish we could. The government isn’t about helping the people, it’s about power and lining their pockets. So very sad.

Think the Democrat-Marxists are now working on their next plan to destroy American capitalism : The Affordable Student Loan Act . The next economic bomb to follow their Affordable Housing Act and the Affordable HealthCare Act . LOL. Whenever a Democrat uses the word ” Affordable, “ you know the deficit will be exploding and that your tax dollars are going to be ” redistributed !”
