President Obama Overrides Congress to Send $192M to Palestinian Authority: ‘Important to the Security Interests of the United States’

President Obama has overridden Congress to lift the U.S. ban on financial aid to the Palestinian Authority, saying it is “important to the security interests of the United States.”

The lifting of the ban means, among other things, that a $192 million aid package that was frozen after the Palestinian Authority tried to circumvent the United States and achieve statehood through the UN will now be delivered.

Times of Israel explains:

The unilateral statehood gambit was strongly opposed by Israel, which said Abbas was seeking to avoid negotiating the necessary compromises and modalities of statehood with Israel.  The US indicated it would veto a resolution in the Security Council seeking unilateral recognition of “Palestine,” but the issue has not come to a vote, because the Palestinians were unable to obtain sufficient support in the Security Council.  They may yet seek a non-binding endorsement of statehood in the UN General Assembly.

Section 3 of Congress’s Palestinian Accountability Act, which applies to 2012, stipulates that “no funds available to any United States Government department or agency … may be obligated or expended with respect to providing funds to the Palestinian Authority.”  Obama has now signed a waiver, however, the White House said Friday, and asked Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to inform Congress accordingly.

White House spokesman Tommy Vietor reportedly explained that the funds are aimed at “ensuring the continued viability of the moderate PA government” under the leadership of President Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Salam Fayyad.

However, skeptics note that much of the Middle East was deemed as “promising” and “moderate” before the “Arab Spring,” but is in danger of becoming far more tyrannical.

      Why in the world is anyone surprised? Probably connected to being in cahoots with the Muslims (Muslim Brotherhood, etc.), in addition to their friendly like-minded Communists – who are all helping him with re-election — with the goal of taking us over,- after decades of planning & getting their people in most of our powerful Govn’t positions, media, schools, etc. We have been thoroughly saturated….with Muslims & Communists.
      Also forget impeachment. The SENATE has to be involved with that and will NOT do it – like West said, 80 or so of them are Communists also. It also takes many months, even if they did. Plus this is an election year & no one wants to “rock the boat”. Many just don’t believe it & if they do, don’t know what to do about it. It’s unprecedented. What do you do when you have the takeover of the WH, DOJ, etc. by the “enemy”?? When you have close to half of the country stupid, uninformed, ignorant or agree with them? Took advantage of everytrhing – our ignorance, our apathy, the humongous unbelievability of it, an election year, cowardly Repubs., etc. They have international help, people. The truth is we’ve been “invaded” by the enemy (via stealth) which is the only thing that would work in America. The military has also been infiltrated – make no mistake. Elections? Probably planning a “crisis”/martial law scenario – no elections. Who knows. If you think we don’t need repentance & God’s help – think again.

      I believe that the blaze did put up the story about the Russians playing war games with the United States a little while back. I don’t know if that was the specific story you were talking about though.

      As for the story this just proves that Obama is indeed becoming Dictator like everyday in his presidency, he is bypassing the congresses vote all together now, and will likely do so in the future with even bigger policies. I believe this is probably like a test run for him for the people to get used to it, so he may do it again and again in small doses until he gets to overriding congress with the big stuff. Then the media won’t say anything as they love Obama so much, and they will find excuses for him and praise him for the policies he is passing, and the conservatives and libertarians will have their voices mocked by the media and progressives a like for being a racist against King Obama.

      Stop all foreign aid, tell Isreal to do whatever they need to protect their sovereignty and that we will stand by their decisions and support them at the U.N. That is the sane thing to do. Let the Middle East fend for themselves for a while. I bet if Isreal is taken on by any or all the countries around them, they would come out on top, guaranteed. That is the best way to stop any caliphate.

      No where in the Palestinian Accountability Act or the Constitution have I read that the president has the authority to waive the Act and spend the funds that Congress restricted to the Palestinian Authority. So this imperial president has again gone beyond his authority. He has again challenged the Congress and the nation to impeach him. It is time to do just that, but in doing so the House should include all of his earlier illegal acts (e.g., creation of unexamined Czars, appointments while the Senate was in session, destruction of property rights of stockholders in takeovers, ad nauseam) that he has committed beyond the limitations of his authority as established by the Founders. Mr. Obama seems to think he cannot be impeached during an election year. Let’s see. The charges should be for all his High Crimes that have violated his oath to defend and protect the Constitution of the United States. Ultimately, citizens and their Representatives must demand that the House call for Obama to account for his actions.

      ADoctorsLabor, Exactly, however, we tell Isreal to do what is best for themselves, get out of their way, and defend them at the UN when they try to call out war crimes. That is the way you help allies. You stand behind thrir decisions, I was never saying that we fight for them, they do not want or need our help. We need to shut down the bases, bring the troops home, and stop foreign aid to everyone. If a country needs help, they can ask the American people and the American people are the most generous in the world. Our government has no place spending our money for us then taxing the crap out of us. If an ally needs our help militarily, they can ask, the Congress determines if we are at risk enough to go to war and declare war, we go in get it done and get out without fighting for years. This is the only sane foreign policy to protect Americans in the right way.

      1.When was the last time this government allowed access on such #’s into such sensitive buildings?
      2.Why isnt this being publishized more? so the people of this country are made aware of it and prepared for it?
      3.Because if you saw foreign aircraft dropping foreign armed troops over your city without such notification what would you think and more importantly what would you do?
      4.In that area of the country, folks are traditionally armed and if they think the wrong thing and fired on such troops what do you think the result would be? another reason to demand guns taken from the people?
      5.Why are tax payor funded weapons being handed over to another government, trained to use them and allow them practice in using them against sensitive buildings?
      6.Article even states that the even the Russian Analytists are puzzled by getting access on such a scale. Do you think their government would allow our troops to do a practice run on their HQs?

      If we dont have any enemies anywhere or need be concerned about foreign troops of a government so diametically opposed to our system then why should we have any borders at all. I mean we can always trust the UN to do what’s best for our people and way of life so why not just hand over the keys to them? Just a few things that have come to mind seeing all of the different things happening with our Government calling for world taxes, distribution of wealth, pres telling Russian gov, give him time worry.       Doesn’t matter what President does it, it‘s wrong and shouldn’t be done. The Constitution as ratified gives the President no power to override the laws of Congress, but yet it gives Congress the power to override the President by a two thirds vote in both houses of Congress, the President is the Commander and Chief, but cannot declare war, except gifts, or sign treaties without approval by Congress. I’m not saying “it’s never done”, those in Congress that allow it without question should be removed from office.
