President Obama Thinks Republicans Are Showing Signs of ‘Madness’

PORTLAND, Maine (AP/The Blaze) — President Barack Obama accused Republicans of clinging to economic policies that preceded the Great Depression and the more recent economic downturn, accusing his rivals of showing signs of “madness.”

Raising campaign cash in Maine, Obama said Republicans want to return to economic policies that would let Wall Street play by its own set of rules and allow insurance companies to roll back health coverage.

“We won’t win the race for new jobs and new businesses and middle-class security if we cling to this same old, worn-out, tired ‘you’re on your own’ economics that the other side is peddling,” Obama said.

“It was tried in the decades before the Great Depression. It didn’t work then. It was tried in the last decade. It didn’t work,” he said. “You know, the idea you would keep on doing the same thing over and over again, even though it’s been proven not to work. That’s a sign of madness.”

Obama raised campaign cash in Vermont, where he said the economy was getting stronger and businesses were gaining confidence. He also offered a vigorous defense of his health care law, though without mentioning the Supreme Court case to determine the constitutionality of its main provision.

In Burlington, Vt., Obama said the health care overhaul that passed “after over a century of trying” would allow young people to remain on their parents’ health insurance for a longer period, help seniors pay less for prescription drugs and keep millions of people from being denied coverage.

Taking a shot at his GOP rivals, Obama said President Abraham Lincoln “couldn’t win the nomination” for the Republican Party right now.

Obama‘s four events were his last fundraisers before Saturday’s monthly and quarterly campaign fundraising deadline. The president raised $45 million last month for his re-election.

Amazing . . . I wonder where communism or socialism ever worked? And where it is being used they are running away from it as fast as they can . . . I thought this guy was the smartest president we have ever had? Let’s dump more money into social programs and education reform . . . that always works.

This jerk of a president is still trying to push Jimmy Carter off of his “Americas Worst President” throne and replace him.
I have cautioned thousands of people to not take this election lightly because I‘m positive that Obama’s thugs are going to try and steal the election. But I got to say I think he’s about to lose by the largest margin in history. And it won’t be on the strength of our candidate, it will be because he is simply just that pathetic of a president.

We have spent hundreds of billions on the war on poverty. It has not worked. Otherwise it would not be an issue. We still have poverty. We tried the progressive idea to get everyone in a house. The resullt was a financial calamity. That did not work. Marxism has never worked any where. Really, who is mad? Punish success, reward failure. Who is mad? Who ,sir, is mad?

One example would be that tax breaks to rich and corporations improve the economy. The idea is that if you give rich people and corporations they just go out there and “create jobs.”

Bush tried that though, you may remember. Those are the “Bush tax cuts” you hear about. He dramatically cut taxes for the rich and for corporations. There was zero improvement in job creation or the economy. If anything the economy got worse. So he cut taxes dramatically a second time for the rich and for corporations. The result? Zilch, nothing. No “job creation.” Zero improvement in the economy. In fact, if I remember correctly, a year later the US fell into the worse economic condition since the Great Depression. Correct me if I’m wrong. Taxes were a lot higher during the Clinton administration and the economy was great. Taxes were higher under Reagan too.

So Republicans want to try a THIRD time? Third time is a charm? Nah, the only reason to cut taxes further is to get donations to their PACs. We’ve tried cutting taxes folks. Nice idea, but we’ve tried that with a controlled experiment, two in fact, and it doesn’t help the economy. It just helps Republicans get reelected who want to do the same thing again and hope for different results.

That is, as they say, is the definition of insanity.

JZS, none of the economic catastrophes of the Bush years had anything to do with tax rates. No one is suggesting that lowering taxes could have prevented the .com bubble collapse, 9/11, or the housing bubble collapse.

The ignorance that Obama perpetuates would be laughable, if it wasn’t so disgusting.

The best or one of the best courses is to have a board of psychiatrists ready and waiting to confront Obama.
Some strategies would have people stationed at some of his speeches just as an observational team ready to release a news packet of their findings. This should ruffle his feathers a bit.
Other strategies would be to circulate to his PR people that he is being observed and scrutinized “for his own safety”. It would need to pass believability to make the endeavor pass muster as it were.

Worse, I’d you flood the market artificially with immature, inefficient devices, and THEN a viable, efficient technology is developed, you may have destroyed its market! “Tax cuts to the rich don’t improve the economy. Bush tried it twice. It didn’t work.”

That depends on what you expect the tax cuts to do. Obama himself uses the argument that the “economy would be worse” if he hadn’t enacted his policies. If we use Obama’s reasoning here, it is insanity for him to keep pushing the same policies that didn’t work for the past 3 years.

Conservatives don’t push for tax cuts because they think it is going to magically improve the economy by itself. The economy incredibly complex and unpredictable, and government has no business trying to micromanage it.

Is Obama’s argument that tax increases are going to encourage growth? Taking more money from businesses is going to help them prosper? That only serves to further bloat a government that already spends twice as much as it takes in.

I have a much better idea. End all entitlements, and we will immediately have a surplus. Boom, problem solved.

For once I completely agree with Barack Obama (aka Barry Sotero). Socialism has been tried over and over again throughout history and has failed. It’s odd that Obama would use this analogy, I wonder if he thought about it later and regretted it. The problem with this debate is both the Republicans and the Democrats are keeping everyone distracted and divided along party lines. Both sides have been moving towards Socialism for the past 6 decades. The debate really is about which economic system actually works, Socialism or Capitalism. Right now it appears the country is split around 60/40 (60% favor Capitalism and 40% favor some form of Socialism) Greed is precisely the reason Capitalism works and Socialism does not. Under Capitalism human greed forces companies to provide quality goods and services that people want to buy. Companies constantly compete for your cash. Under Socialism the Government mandates which companies we invest in thereby eliminating fair competition and taking away your individual CHOICE (aka FREEDOM) Who would you trust more with the Healthcare system the Post Office, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac or APPLE? Hint: the first 3 are GSE’s (Gov Subsidized Entity) and have NEVER posted a profit. If you chose a GSE then you prefer Socialism and you want the Gov to tell you how to spend your money. If you chose APPLE you believe in fair competition, and you want to decide for yourself how and where to spend your money based on the best deal.

JZS, what country were you living in fro 2000 to 2008? I read your first two paragraphs and there were so many errors in reality it isn’t even funny. A tax cut, in short, and hopefully you understand, is to give taxes taken from a person or company that paid into it in the first place, not take from those which paid more and give it to people which did not pay taxes in the first place.

You really need to get a life, you are so far out in left field, it would be best if you commented on things which are not fresh in everyone’s minds, makes you look like the dumbest person in the room.

Obama didn’t see the housing crash coming, but the free market guy, Ron Paul, did. Go figure.

      See here.

Ron Paul: “This real-estate bubble will burst, as all bubbles do” (part 3)
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KONpt9a6HrI

Both the recent housing crash, as well as the Roaring 20′s, were the result of central planning.

The housing market was artificially stimulated due to government priveleges to the GSE’s, as well as due to politically-motivated quotas. Government INTERVENTION caused the housing bubble, NOT deregulation.

During the Roaring 20′s, the Fed increased the money supply by 55%, thus misleading capital-intensive markets into an unsustainable investment boom.

And by the way: No, the economy is not recovering.

      See here.

Let’s go through the list of incentives of DNC contributions as well as net worths of democrat legislators ( Pelosi) who meanwhile scream for social justice. Think of the “social justice” 45 million could do instead of filling the DNC coffers.

Well said, and Georgiejo, I love the lights, it made me laugh! There is nothing to do but laugh at him, he is too funny. I really believe a lot of people are waking up to where the blame lies in all this, and it isn’t George Bush. They are realizing that every thing is getting worse, from money, to race relations, to international relations. Some of the stupid stuff the left is saying is so far out people are going WHAT? Remember to pray for the Supreme court to vote for freedom.

James David Manning was completely correct when he said to look at Africa. All the blacks have produced is Famine, AIDS and Starvation. Before the white man came, the blacks never even built a ship that would float for any length of time. Also, he only made homes not more that 1 story high and only out of grass and wood. Not one was of stone. He doesn’t have much regard for people like Obama or Sharpton either. Blacks can’t even govern Harlem.

The fact that in just two-hundred years, the United States soared to the top is more than enough to believe the system we’ve had is working. By saying this, Obama has not only uttered one of the most out-of-touch comments in human history, he’s actually spit on everything the Founding Fathers believed in. This is an assault on the American way of life. My word, someone needs to deck this guy in the jaw, it‘s the last chance he’s got to see reality. Just when you thought he couldn’t say anything dumber, he says this. Unbelievable.

Mammy, excellent point. Hope you’re correct.
Chips, yes. The same people who worship Darwin, don’t see Darwinism when it smacks them in the face. Blacks have never had a better opportunity for success than in this country, courtesy of the white people who wrote the Constitution. And all they can give us nowadays is Sharpton, Jackson, Holder, Odumbo, and that gaggle of ludicrous Congresswomen like Jackson-Lee, Waters et al and morons like Rush the Hoodie Gangsta. Those blacks who have excelled under the US Constitution and contributed to the greatness of this country have got to be rolling in their graves to see the modern day blacks living on and for the Government Plantation. Sad.

I guess he forgot about the roaring 20s? I guess he forgot that the foundation of our country is rooted in the Bible (though the leftist have done their best to obfuscate that fact)

Hmmmm, let’s think about this for just a minute. Can’t talk about the Bible which professes those pesky civil ideals about, oaths/lying (contracts). coveting, stealing, or the Golden rule, yet somehow we are supposed to be an honorable group that won’t lie or cheat or steal?

Without a standard of behavior ( as is based in the Bible) how is it we are to establish a fair and just society where people don’t walk all over anyone to get what they want?

How is it that in all the cities or places where guns are banned, we still have gun crimes? Could it possibly be that we have lost our way? How do we establish a standard of behavior that benefits all, when we seem to live in a world where anything goes?
