President’s Weekly Radio Address Tackles…Women’s Equality?

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama pledged on Saturday to continue the fight to help women get fair wages, escape poverty and compete in academic areas with higher earning potential such as math and engineering.

“At a time when folks across this country are struggling to make ends meet — and many families are just trying to get by on one paycheck after a job loss — it‘s a reminder that achieving equal pay for equal work isn’t just a women’s issue,” the president said in his weekly radio and online address. “It’s a family issue.”

Efforts are still continuing to address problems highlighted by a commission led by former first lady Eleanor Roosevelt almost 50 years ago that looked at the status of women and the unfairness they face.

Obama noted that one of his first acts as president was to sign a law allowing women who’ve been discriminated against in their salaries to have their day in court. Obama said he was disappointed when a bill to give women more power to stop pay disparities — the Paycheck Fairness Act — was blocked in the Senate.

“And that‘s why I’m going to keep up the fight to pass the reforms in that bill,” he said.

Senate Republicans succeeded in blocking the measure designed to reduce wage disparities between men and women. The effort to take up the Paycheck Fairness Act fell just short of the 60 votes needed to overcome GOP opposition. Republicans and business groups said the bill would expose employers to more litigation by removing limits on punitive and compensatory damage awards.

The bill was one of the first measures passed by the House last year after Obama was elected.

“Achieving equality and opportunity for women isn’t just important to me as president,” Obama said. “It’s something I care about deeply as the father of two daughters who wants to see his girls grow up in a world where there are no limits to what they can achieve.”

In the Republican radio address, Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska addressed rising energy costs.

International events like the upheaval in the Middle East and North Africa affect those costs, she said, but “our own shortsightedness and restrictions have played a role.”

She urged greater U.S. oil production, saying the way should be cleared for more pursuit of energy resources in the Gulf of Mexico and the Rocky Mountain West. She said her home state of Alaska has estimated resources in excess of 65 years’ worth of Persian Gulf imports.

Republicans also support energy alternatives that would lower oil consumption, Murkowski said.

    Great Points!
Could it be that he’d rather not discuss his possible ties with, or finger prints all over what is happening in Wisconsin?
Why else would he come out with this?
Unless it‘s because Krauthammer wrote about the destruction of women’s rights if Caliphate takes over.

Or unless he wants to distance himself from this:
Obama has signed an executive order presidential determination allowing hundreds of thousands of Palestinians to resettle in the United States.

Sure, what can go wrong when we allow hundreds of thousands of people who have been, as Mark Steyn memorably described, “marinated” in a “sick death cult,” who voted for Hamas, and 55% of whom support suicide bombings live here and at the American taxpayers’ expense:

By executive order, President Barack Obama has ordered the expenditure of $20.3 million in migration assistance to the Palestinian refugees and conflict victims in Gaza.

The “presidential determination” which allows hundreds of thousands of Palestinians

with ties to Hamas to resettle in the United States

was signed on January 27 and appeared in the Federal Register on February 4

Few on Capitol Hill took note that the order provides a free ticket replete with housing and food allowances to individuals who have displayed their overwhelming support of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) in the parliamentary election of January 2006.

Wow, you mean to tell me the Blaze doesn’t think Obama is doing what he should? Do you mean to tell me that every article ever publihed on the Blaze concerning Obama just happens to express rabid hate and revulsion at his very existence? Wow, do you think that VOTING is a better remedy than cultivating fear among old and unemployed people and overweight stay at home moms? Come on Blaze, you actually have to be FOR something other than dried food and gold coins.

I did not listen. Can’t stand the sound of his voice anymore. This is a moot point. It is another attempt to divide the citizens of our nation by causing a rift between one group & another. The world is on fire. The world is embattled. A Friendly Nation has practically been destroyed by 2 Natural disasters. There are groups of anarchists attacking in our country. And this equal pay garbage is what he chooses to speak of? What does his other face speak of where we can’t hear?

“Equal Pay for Equal Work” sounds good and I think most of us would agree that, if the work is TRULY equal then probably, if other factors are ignored(*), equal pay would be warranted.

The problem arises in defining equal work. What the equal pay people want to do is equate different jobs as being equal. For example they might equate a janitor to a dishwasher, or a bookkeeper to a computer programmer. That just doesn’t work.

Another huge factor is that even though two people have the exact same job, one might perform brilliantly and the other might be a slacker.

    * A few other factors might be, willingness to work overtime or weekends, maternity leave, PMS, physical strength and endurance.

Note I never mentioned “for women” as I think the concept of equal pay for equal work should apply to men and women equally.

The “women make 75 cents for every dollar” stat has been repeatedly debunked. It’s a lie. Women who have apples to apples job history actually make a little more than their male counterparts.

If you think he gives a hoot about my wages, rights or even his daughter’s well being think again. He is all show. He is a congenital liar. He is a sociopath. My opinion of course …since my opinion is the only opinion I can give.

That calm exterior he exudes is nothing more than a sociopaths way of dealing with the world around him. I don’t believe he has been able to form any close associates because of the way he was raised. His Mother’s glorifying his father even though they were both abandoned. Then his mother abandoned him and he was moved around from person to person and place to place. Sounds classic to me!

You are right…it is all show. This man and his czars are very very dangerous. They want to destroy family. Their focus on education is “Prenatal thru third grade”… make the school year longer, make the school day longer, start “education” just after birth. Meals will be served at schools and kids will receive their medical care thru “medical homes” at the school (so much for your own doctor)..
“Minority Report” becomes reality as annual psych exams are planned for all kids to “catch problems” ..“before they become problems”. This man and his cadre of socialists care nothing for women or women’s rights. They want control.

What is so extremely sad is that he continues to focus on his own destructive agenda of destroying our country when half a world away 10,000 people have died due to a horrific disaster. You would think he would have focused his talk on that…that he would have called the nation to prayer. But no…. he is focused….he is determined and he will have his way.

This would make it harder for women to find employment because potential employers would see it as a lawsuit waiting to happen. What the first lady’s 43 helpers need a raise? I wonder how many of them are her girlfriends and relatives. Guess that way she can take them on vacation with her as an employee.

I fully support any program that levels the field regarding employment. Sex, race. religious belief, political party should never be used for determining wages and benefits.

I fully support the “free enterprise system” and anyones right to create their own business and develope it as they see fit.

The “nanny state” and its influence on capitalism, reduces desire to succeed. A newly organized firm can be taxed to the point where a private business owner can lose their initiative, motivation and desire to build and sustain a viable business. Taxes that support “handouts” to the lazy, disinterested and unmotivated citizens, will dry up, eliminating the desire to enlarge ones business.

Drill, mine, create innovative sources of energy by all means.

The only drawback to becoming energy self sufficient is the middle east will be invaded by Russia, China, India and Southeast Asia. This could compell the US to adopt a “defensive military posture” within the Continental US ( might not be a bad idea)

Being dominated by Russia, China or the Muslim Brotherhood” might not be an acceptable way of life to a United States that has just undergone a conversion to a socialist/ marxist/ communist state.

Additionally, in my opinion, becoming part of a global government is the worst thing this Republic could ever endure. I seriously believe a revolution would take place if that type of government became a possibility for the US.

This country is now a Matriarchal society with Big Gov as the father and the single mother is our mother of the land. Women are running the USA at almost every level to the point men and young boys are suffering from the imbalance. Less college attendees are male? Less males are even graduating from HS. Far fewer are deciding to marry and those who do find that their female counterpart wants a divorce on average after five years “JUST BECAUSE”. They far more often lose their rights in child custody cases and far more likely to pay more money in child support cases than the other way around. No Mr President, its men and boys who now get the short end of the stick in USA. Women have got it made. They decided everything, men have no control or say even over whether their own spouse aborts their child.
