‘Pretty Good!’: Have You Seen This Clip of Allen West Singing a Tom Petty Classic?

Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.) has become the most recent politician to be caught singing in public, following in the footsteps of Mitt Romney and Barack Obama.

The clip was reportedly taken back on June 25th during a rally in Newman, GA, but is just starting to attract notice after a recent mention on Fox and Friends.

“We’ve got to say — he’s pretty good!” Mediaite’s Alex Alvarez relates.  “Most of our karaoke sessions end in tears and maybe the tiniest bit of vomit, but West manages to do a great job.”

Watch the clip of West singing Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ “Runnin’ Down a Dream,” below (the video rotates at about 1:30, but we don’t recommend skipping the beginning):

West concludes the performance to a round of applause, saying: “Ladies and gentlemen, this represents the future, and this is the dream that we have to run down to make sure we pass on [this] great nation…May God bless you all, and God keep this great United States of America.”

Though this isn’t the first time West has demonstrated his vocal abilities in public, his most recent rendition has inspired Fox’s Greta Van Susteren to create a “Who Sang It Better?” poll between West and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.  Nearly 85% of the voters said West “sang it better” at the time of this article’s publication.

      her husband loves America,
      can talk knowledgeably, about everything from America’s founding

      and SING, like a Traveling Wilbury-

    There is no perfect candidate, there will never be. The current situation we find ourselves in has been brewing for 100 years, it ain’t going away in one fell swoop. We have a long row to hoe to get to where we need to be. One of the brightest shining stars we have today is Allen West. He IS what America needs, and many more men and women just like him if not better. Being a servant of the people is a new concept to the political arena. He hyenas have been breed to perfection, and to go into that arena and TRY is all we can ask of a ‘servant of the people’ – again, none of them are going to be perfect, Allen West is about as close at it gets in this point in time… I don’t begin to know what will come to pass in November (or sooner), but I feel we will start rolling back the freight train of socialism that is being crammed down our throats almost daily now. Vote Romney, support constitutional conservatives from your local contests to the federal level and start the ball rolling in the American direction, for a ‘change’.. God Bless America!!!!

      Turned my laptop on the side to watch the first part til’ it straightened itself out.

      West should offer this song up on ITUNES-
      yeah, Petty will reap a few royalties
      but West is a fair man & believes in boosting the free economy
      for everyone.
      It would be a huge smash for him and generate lots

      I donated to his campaign fund last night and since I’m practically broke I wondered “Can I really afford what I just did?” But after hearing him on the video I was so happy that we have him in Congress and I so much want to help stop the hideous Soros who is putting up $$$$$money of his just to try to get rid of Mr. West so I know that whatever I could do to help is worth it for our country.

      You mean the court martial about West firing his weapon next to the head of a captive enemy combatant so as to get the captive to sing. Apparently the enemy captive sang and American lives were saved. I think that’s when West turned himself in then sang, was court martialed and sent packing. That sure was some serious singing! Beats the hell out of Willie Nelson’s “On The Road Again.’ However, if West had played a recording of Willie singing that song to the combatant he could have gotten the same results and would probably be in prison for a war crime, plus the captive would be in a mental institution still recovering.

    Is there video of him lighting the Constitution on fire with his signing of the NDAA? This is the type of crap story the Blaze does instead of really focusing on real problems.

    How about the Blaze break down Romney’s budget and show what his budget really does to the economy?

    Hmmm. That‘s the first time I’ve seen the Romney clip. He sings like patriotic friends and family that I grew up around. Not quite top ten, but top shelf American spirit!

    I’ve seen the Obama clip. He IS president because the media made him a pop icon as a way to cover up the fact that there is no way in an honest world that he even deserves to VISIT the Whitehouse!
    If he went for a music career, he‘d just be one more socialist entertainer and we’d all be better off.

    What he is referring to when he says that is the child in his arms.

    As for the singing, he did a decent job. Obama has a good voice,which is not surprising since he is a celebrity president. Maybe he could go be a judge on American Idol. He’s much better suited for that than his present position.
