Priorities USA Founder Defends ‘Romney Killed My Wife’ Ad

Priorities USA Founder Bill Burton appeared on Wolf Blitzer’s show today to try to do what many observers believe is impossible: Defend the ad attacking Mitt Romney as indirectly responsible for a woman’s death. Watch the clip below:

Transcript, courtesy of the Washington Free Beacon, follows:

BLITZER: It’s inaccurate, it’s not responsible, it’s misleading–you’re still going to go ahead and play it.

BURTON: Well, Wolf, just like we just talked about: What this ad does is tell the story of one guy and the impact that Mitt Romney had on him.

BLITZER: It’s misleading to tell–

BURTON: Well, this is your opinion. But, but–

BLITZER: Most independent fact-checkers, and we’re independent–

BURTON: What fact in that ad is wrong?

BLITZER: The impression that you get that he killed her.

BURTON: So you’re saying that that’s an impression.

BLITZER: Anyone who watches that 60-second ad comes away and says, “Mitt Romney’s responsible, at least indirectly, for this lovely woman’s death.”

BURTON: I just don’t think that’s true. And we would never make that case. The point of the ad–

BOULDAN: Well then, the ad fails, because that’s the message you take away from it, Bill. Whatever message was intended in this commercial is not–nobody hears.

BURTON: It’s clearly lost on some folks, make no mistake about that. But the truth is, is that what this ad is about, is what Mitt Romney wants his campaign to be about.

Now, if you don’t quite understand the point of the ad after reading that, the CNN panel involved appears to agree with you. What was this ad trying to say? That Mitt Romney doesn’t care if people die? That Mitt Romney should have paid this woman’s medical bills? That Mitt Romney is a silly name? What? Burton never specifies what he means by “what Mitt Romney wants his campaign to be about,” but it seems fairly clear that Romney wants his campaign to be about jobs and the economy. So is Burton saying Romney wants people to lose their jobs? That’s a rather interesting circle to square.

    Obama needs to divert the publics attention away from his failed policies. He is just throwing crap and hoping it sticks. Attacking and destroying that is what this uniter is very skillful at.       It‘s strange to me that Mitt Romney’s Spokeswoman’s name is Andrea Saul, and somehow I think if her name was Andrea Hitler, or Mao – you would all probably take notice.       Burton deliberately made a compete fool of himself on CNN in front of the entire world to give this political ad traction with the millions of losers who agree with this jackass.

      As for CNN. A “wolf” in sheep’s clothing is still a “wolf”.

      Many of these same left wing loons called the Swift Boat Navy Personnel liars in ‘04. Literally screamed bloody murder as I recall. To top it off, those sailors spent entire full tours in Vietnam. Unlike Kerry who was kicked out of country within a four month time frame by his commanding officer.     Wouldn‘t want to be in Bill Burton’s shoes – Bearing false witness is one of the big ten. This woman’s husband had another job and did not have his wife covered. She died 7 years after Romney left Bain. This is all the Obama campaign has. Unlike all of his previous wins, where he won by destroying his competitors reputations, this is the first time he also has a record to try to to defend. I wouldn’t bet my buck on Obama to win this one.

      Actually, it’s more than that. The wife had health insurance through her own job for several years after her husband lost his, not to mention that this was all long after Romney had left Bain.

      What isn’t getting said is that without Bain, this company, and others that eventually failed, were basket cases when Bain stepped in, so without Bain they’d have been gone much earlier. Bain kept these losing propositions on life support until there was finally no choice but to pull the plug. What the commercial ought to say is that this guy stayed employed longer than he would have if Bain hadn’t been there. Of course, that would be the truth and we know the left can’t abide the truth.

    Romney is no more responsible for this ladies death than I am. She had her own health insurance where she worked even after her husbands plant closed. Was she laid off at the thrift store after she was diagnosed with cancer? It seems, given the short time between diagnosis and her passing that the cancer was quite advanced.

    There are many programs run by the cancer society which would have helped her if there had been time. Her state also has medicaid.

    This whole ad is a blatent lie.

      Did bary help his mother $$$ when she had cancer? No he was quite wealthy and expected the taxpayers to foot the bill. Talk about cold blooded. Mitt Romney might have helped he poor woman if he had know of her health needs. Just out of the goodness of his heart. We don’t know. He wasn’t given the opportunity. This guy was just mad because he lost his job and was too sorry and lazy to find another one. Would love to see his work record. Was he a certified union card carrying idiot?

      Additional thoughts!

      If he was a steel worker, then he more than likely was a union member. Steel workers in his neck of the woods are unionized whether they like it or not. Where was his union and their insurance plan? Doesn’t his union have health insurance on displaced steel workers while they are trying to find other work? Did his union offer to help him in any way?

      Mr. Soptic is not the real liar in this piece, he did lose his job, his wife did have cancer and she did pass away. For this, my heart goes out to him and his family. Unfortunately, for the creators of this travesty of an ad, Mr. Romney left Bain Capitol 2 years before the decision was made to close the plant. He couldn’t have, in any way, been responsible for the decision to close the plant. Secondly, Bain bought a distressed company and tried to rescue it. Had it not been for their attempt to rescue the company, it would have closed several years earlier. CHEAP FOREIGN LABOR AND CHEAP FOREGIN INDUSTRIES ARE TO BLAME. A government which allows CHEAP imported goods into the country and puts AMERICAN workers out of jobs is to blame. American workers are the finest in the world!! We just can’t compete with labor which is paid .21 cents per hour.

      The real liars are the members of the super pac which devised this rotten attempt to besmirch Mitt Romney and they should be ashamed of themselves for co-opting this gentleman into making this ad.

      We should expect no less from Barry, who continues to repeat the lie about his mother being denied insurance coverage for her cancer. It has been proven by multiple sources that Cigna did in fact pay her medical bills, yet Barry told the lie again in Denver just two days ago.

      There is no logic in the ad for sure. Stage IV lung cancer has 0% odds, flat out it is fatal. Very few people get a few years with this cancer, and at that stage you get months. I am sure there are a few exceptions, but what I learned from experience with my husband, no Dr will tell you anything but it’s a death sentance. No insurance on earth could haved saved her. Infuriates me.

    This ad in particular is so deceiving, so patently wrong, that it is backfiring on Dear Leader. Even one of my ultra liberal neighbors asked me why Dear Leader was allowing this lie to happen.
    What was strange about that was he was asking me, so I simply told him that Dear Leader always lies its just what he does.

      Thanks BRUCE P! Strange as it may sound it was a great experience. My faith in God (which I thought was really great ) just grew exponentially! I love this Country so much as do most of us and it‘s so frustrating to see these ’little boys’ with their shallow outlook, their greed and ambition that leads to no where…(now he wants that woman to also get paid) … I just thank GOD for Glenn and Tania Beck and all their staff, for decent people who love this country and I’m praying that Marco Rubio gets the nod. I know it‘s all in God’s hands, but I also know He expects us to fight for this Precious Nation. We have to keep letting people know that they voted for platitudes in a speech writer’s mind last time as presented by a great teleprompter reader… I urge them not to get fooled again…to compare what he is saying against what he has done… They don‘t even know half of what he’s done to wreck America. I also challenge those Americans who DO know what this guy is, what he’s done but have a D after their names to get a spine and be an AMERICAN first. I was actually encouraged to see some of them speak out against him. They know he’s a Dictator-wannabe.

      Patty Henry, I also have been clear for the past eight years, thank God! It is pure luck I am even alive they discovered my brain cancer when I went to see the doctor because of my sinus headaches! With Obamacare, I wouldn’t be writing this.

    I didn’t think Romney cared about the average Joe before this add came out. I mean he doesn’t seem to have any remorse about his stint in Paris while the average Joe was getting shot up in Nam. On top of that, based on his rhetoric, he doesn‘t seem like he’ll care about the average Joe dying in the ass crack of the world. He doesn’t care about the average Joe getting a fair trail.       The timeline that is left out of the ad is eye-opening.

      The fact that this woman NEVER had health insurance from a company associated with Bain (she got her insurance from HER employer).

      When her husband got a new job (custodian in local school district), he CHOOSE not to cove his wife – he says he couldn’t afford it.

      I think he’s deflecting responsibility for his CHOICE not to insure his wife onto Romney.

      I wonder what he choose to spend money on rather than take care of his wife’s health…

    The lady had health insurance of her own but that’s beside the point,the whole point of this smear tactic is to keep Romney on the defensive and you never win anything with defense alone.Romney has to go on offense and shred Barry to ribbons,should be pretty easy to do based on how much damage he’s done.
