Pro-Israel Penn State Students Assaulted for Putting up ‘Palestinian Wall of Lies’

Pro Israel Penn State Students Assaulted for Putting up Palestinian Wall of Lies

The Collegian of Penn State reports:

A 10-by-10-foot sign drew conflict and crowds of more than 50 people outside the HUB-Robeson Center Thursday afternoon.

The sign, part of a demonstration by the Penn State chapter of Young Americans for Freedom, was titled “The Palestinian Wall of Lies.” It featured two large silhouettes of men with guns and outlined 10 “lies” the group believes Palestinians propagate.

YAF President Samuel Settle led the demonstration, handing out pamphlets and attempting to strike up conversation with passersby.

“Many people have hatred for Israel and that’s why this is important,” Settle (junior-political science and history) said. “People need to look at the facts.”

But the demonstration didn’t go without opposition.

One student — who fled the scene before providing comment — yelled obscenities at Settle and the rest of the group, calling it “terrible” and proceeding to kick the group’s box of handouts across the sidewalk.

Other students simply shook their heads. Some even laughed.

One student’s opposition to the sign took an aggressive turn. In the video below, a pro-Palestinian student gets into an argument with the YAF demonstrators about the sign. Near the end, the pro-Palestinian student’s frustration and anger reaches a bit of a boiling point, causing him to reach for the camera and then kick a box belonging to the YAF demonstrators across the quad-like area.

The YAF president, Samuel Settle, describes the incident in his own words:

Today, members of the Penn State Young Americans for Freedom (YAF) set up a Palestinian Wall of Lies outside of the HUB Student Center at the University Park campus. The demonstration began shortly before 1:00, and received an almost immediate hostile reaction from two nearby Arab students. The students described the Wall as “bullshit” and “a f***ing lie,” but were initially nonviolent.

Shortly afterwards, the Wall began attracting significant attention, including from a reporter and photographer with the Daily Collegian student newspaper. Most of the reception was positive; in particular, a group of Israeli students came around to express their support. At this point, one of the two Arab students came back around and began arguing with the YAFfers and Israelis, using abusive language and saying, “I have a problem with Israelis.”

The argument lasted for about 3 minutes, during which the aggressor became increasingly aggravated, ultimately demanding that the YAFfers stop filming him. His request was refused, at which point he lunged for, but missed, the camera I was holding. He then kicked over a crate full of YAF pamphlets and stormed off. A photographer from the Collegian was present at the time.

Although this display was disappointing, it was not surprising. This was the only student to actually become violent, but many other students from the MSA came by at various points to verbally denounce the Wall, and often to personally insult those present. None of these people were able to point out a single error on the Wall, and they dispersed once it became clear that they were being filmed.

On whole, the event was a great success. As mentioned, with the exception of some MSA members, the Wall seemed to get a mostly positive reception. Several of the students indicated that they were extremely pleased to see a counter-balance to the anti-Israel narrative frequently promoted on campus.

THEBMT, THANK YOU! I was mad and frustrated when I posted, and yours was the point I was trying to make. Of COURSE it was the ‘disagree-er’s” choice to engage in conversation, but the ambush was laid for him with all cameras rolling, and he did what any in his position would do, at least any with a sck. If it had been ME, like you said, going solo against a bunch of young commies all talking over me and being…well, “them”, then I would have done the same.
Except, at the end, there would have been a video of me sending these baiting turds to the hospital.
It is a BAD idea to ambush a Marine, kiddies.
    …For future reference.

If I remember correctly the jews took that land after being attacked by 6 arab countries. Sucks to be them. When you lose an offensive war don’t be suprised to lose territory. How do you think 90% of the worlds borders were established? Cry me a river.

Sometimes the truth hurts. This pro-palestinian kid doesn’t seem that bad. He is passionate but willing to have the conversation. He admited that jews should have a place of their own and that he didn’t want to have all the jews killed. He got frusterated and over rereacted. Bottom line, he is a guy that disagrees and doesn’t know his facts well enough to have a real debate. He knows the talking points from his side but doesn’t have any of the facts to back up his point of view. These are the kinds of debates could change people’s minds. Maybe this guy will go back and wikipedia some of the things that were said and come to a better understanding of the other side.

Not to be confused with the Young Americans for Liberty. I can guarantee their approach would have been different.

At least he was drinking some good Seattle’s best Coffee, I miss the HUB.

Unfortunately the debate was framed as “The Wall of Lies”, rather then as a discussion of what Israel and Palenstine are(both created this century) it was more of a provocation to those that disagreed. Then you can see when you have 5-6 people talking to one person arguing a point, one side can get frustrated. Unfortunately it ended in a bit of aggressiveness, but would any of us in his shoes do it different if we were discussing a bunch of progressives about our big govt, solo? From the way the camera guy talked it seemed like they were anticipating this and were “hoping” this would happen.

My problem with these guys is that there arguments are inconsistent and technical word-smithing. Particularly the whole occupation part.

Leaving out the whole origin history, Israel currently occupies Palestinian territories – the West Bank, Gaza, and East Jerusalem. It seems that their counter argument is that Palestine is not a recognized state (in what I assume they mean the UN – as there are states that recognize Palestine as a state). They ask two questions to try and prove their point which, I would contend, are entirely rhetorical. The first being, ‘when was Palestine founded?’ My retort would be to ask when was England founded? Was it when the nation was acknowledged by an international community? Was it when there was declared a King – and if so, what was he declared King of if there was no England before that? The question obfuscates the fact that there were communities living in the region that was referred as Palestine for some 2,000 years.
The second question is, ‘When was the constitution written?’ For this, it is enough to point out that there is no written constitution for Israel.
The whole argument seems to sum up to, ‘well technically, they weren’t a country recognized by the rest of the world.’ Which is an incredibly weak argument that completely ignores the presence of the communities that were in that area. There are legitimate and well thought out arguments for Israel, but these people are not making them.

Actually, i see this as a provacation and baiting effort by those who posted the sign. They are not trying to “engage in conversation”, they are trying to tape an outburst and succeeded. If you know me and my posts, you know I am pro Israel, but I also believe the Palestinians also have a beef.
You can tell at the end when they all cheered and celebrated when they poked and pushed that guy to a rage and applauded when “one for youtube!” was announced.
SHAME on these idiots who only wanted their 15 minutes of fame, when they could have actually done some good.

That was great work by these students. Concise, accurate presentation of the facts of Arab & Islamic studied, and openly professed, goal of genocide against the Jewish nation, and their resultant intentional perpetual enslavement of the so-called refugees by their ideology of hatred against the Jews. It is nothing more than their asserted war of conquest by Islamists. (It‘s somewhat similar to the left’s use of the poor and downtrodden here as political power pawns, only as long as they are kept in that state. Current policies are only growing their numbers.)
The fact that the mainstream media and current administration here continually sides with the palestinians only shows how void of truth and fact they are, and how driven by polical power and conquest over the western way of life they are. Glenn was right on there, but this has also been a known fact for a long time to anyone with eyes to see.

I remember asking my dad what side I should take between Israel and muslims and my dad said

“Israelis don’t strap bombs to their bodies and blow up little kids on school buses or people sitting in a small cafe”

That was enough logic for me. We need to stand by Israel and quarantine primitive savage muslims in their desert sandboxes.
