Pro-Newt Group Releases Trailer for Anti-Romney Movie: ‘When Mitt Romney Came to Town’

After a disappointing fourth-place finish in Iowa, many speculated Newt Gingrich would take off the gloves and strike back at campaign front-runner Mitt Romney for anti-Newt ads sponsored by those who support Romney. And while Gingrich did come out swinging, now those who support the former Speaker are taking the gloves off in an ad, and movie, of their own.

Supplied by a $5 million donation from Las Vegas casino magnate Sheldon Adelson, a super PAC supporting Gingrich has released a three minute trailer to its 27-minute movie depicting that “When Mitt Romney Came to Town,” as CEO of the venture capital firm Bain Capital, he “destroyed” the American dream for “thousands of Americans and their families.”

As described in the trailer, the movie will show four businesses that were just some “of Romney’s many targets.”

“Think you know Mitt? Think again,”  the trailer asks.

“Their greed was only matched by their willingness to make millions in profits. Nothing spared, nothing mattered but greed,” the trailer says. “Mitt Romney became CEO the day Bain Capital was formed. His mission? To reap massive rewards for himself and his investors.”

ABC News notes that Gingrich was critical of the super PAC supporting Romney that put out numerous negative ads about him in Iowa, and when asked about the film over the weekend the former speaker of the House said he has not seen it.

While the ad may be effective in tarring Romney, some have criticized Gingrich for shifting the conversation in a way that will ultimately do more good for the Obama campaign.

In a column titled “‘Cry Baby’ Gingrich might take GOP down with him,” Joe Battenfeld of The Boston Herald writes:

“Gingrich, despite sinking in the polls, is going nuclear on the former Massachusetts governor on the eve of the New Hampshire primary, and now it looks personal. Gingrich, dubbed ‘Crybaby’ by the media for his ego-driven antics as House speaker in 1995, is now performing in ‘Crybaby, the Sequel.’

It’s fitting that Gingrich yesterday continued to attack Romney in a Manchester restaurant next door to the Obama campaign headquarters, because right now he’s the president’s best friend. His strategy of taking down Romney is right out of the Ted Kennedy and DNC playbook — casting Romney as a corporate villain who ‘looted’ companies and laid off workers.”

With the Bain blood already in the water thanks to Gingrich, the DNC has moved in launching their first video attacking Romney’s alleged job creating past:

Sensing growing suspicions, Romney has tried to explain his venture capital past to New Hampshire voters. POLITICO reports that at a recent event in Rochester, Romney described his story of building businesses from the ground floor up:

“Taking a professorial tone, Romney told the crowd of his early days creating Staples, the big-box office-supply retailer.

‘We opened the very first store. I was there the night we opened the first store. We helped stock the shelves,’ he said. ‘Our office? We were in the back of an old empty shopping mall.’

‘And our chairs were naugahyde chairs with an old table that we used as the board table,’ he added. ‘People were, because it was the private sector we were pulling ourselves up, in some respect, by our bootstraps.’”

[...]

“’I’ve learned what its like to sign the front of the paycheck, not just the back of the paycheck and to know how frightening it is to see whether you can make payroll at the end of the week,’ he said.

‘These are experiences that many of you, that many of you, know. I know what it’s like to worry whether you’re going to get fired. There were a couple of times I wondered whether I was going to get a pink slip.’”

POLITICO reports that Romney has also sought to deflect attention from his questionable CEO past by contrasting it with the administration’s failed investments in such things as the failed energy company Solyndra.

Only time will tell if the growing attacks on Romney’s Bain past, from both sides, will work in swaying independents or Republicans looking to unify in defeating President Obama away from the front runner. One the thing now though is clear, the “positive” campaign of Gingrich and the super PAC supporting him has ended.

UMMMMM, think about it for a couple simple seconds.

How many times has Romney run for an office? 4? 5? 6 times?

Last time, wasn’t he beaten by the guy that lost to Obama?

Didn’t the guy that came in second in the last presidential race just endorse the guy that he beat?

Doesn’t that make Romney number 3?, not number 1?

Sorry, Romney answers questions like he has to go to the bathroom realllllly bad.

Newt has baggage, and we know all of it, full disclosure, and he can explain each and every decision that may be considered bad, but what was the compromise to get more than we knew about, each and every time, without fail. Newt knows what’s going on and has proven he can accopmlish what this country needs, not because he could buy up businesses and flip them, statistically with a 30 percent bankruptcy selling rate, but he never lost a penny.

Newt isnt’ afraid to say it how it is, and can explain why it is bad, how to fix it, and how the end result will look like because he has already done it. Don’t fall into the Saul Alynski gimmicks, they want Mitt because they know he is so timid they can banter him to a win, walk all over him. Look, he is the same mold as McCain. Think about it.

I want a Newt bulldog, not a Mitt poodle.

      MARION

For all those that attack Romney for losing in an election before finally winning, especially losing against those who have lost in the past, need to stop and take a second look. Reagan himself ran 3 times for the presidency, finally to win. He ran in a liberal state as a Republican, even passed a abortion bill. He wised up and made a change that made all of us love him. Romney has done this as well. Though Romney is no Reagan, he has a very similar path as Reagan did. Those that have written books on Reagan, such as the one that wrote ‘Reagan Diaries’ has said they are so much in common, especially their paths to the Presidency.

Romney while in office ran his office as a conservative, from working with the NRA and GOAL on pro-gun laws to Citizens for Limited Taxation (they drafted him to the Presidency) to lower taxes 19 times, to working with evangelicals and catholic leaders on abortion and preserving traditional marriage. Grover Norquist gave him endorsements over his tax policy and gun rights policies. He was endorsed this run by the Vatican Envoy, though he is not a Catholic.

ROMNEY IS A CONSERVATIVE AND IT SHOWS ( http://www.TeaPartyForRomney.com )

EPLEEZ, Get your facts straight before your biased blinds you so bad you step out in fron of a moving car or something. The only thing that the media and our own right wing hacks got wrong about Romeny being for was the Auto Bailout. I watched the news during the days of the bail out and heard Romneys intial statement on an interview with y own ears. He was against it. He said they should follow a path of bankruptcy so that they could reorganize the unions workers. Ultimately, Obama administration took somewhatof this path, I would say, thanks to Romney. They were planning on just plain giving the money to GM and bailing them out, no strings attatched.
Regardless, any of you on here who on board with this Gingrich attach on the Free Market, should be ashamed to call yourselves conservative and might as well go join your buddies down at Occupy Wall Street. You appearantly believe in socialism where the government getsinvolved and tries to make it so nobody loses while everybody ultimately ends up losing. Of course, this is the kind of guy Gingrich is. He only didn’t want to have the personal attacks because heknows what a *****, creep, and crybaby he has always been. THe last thing the conservative need right now is aMovie playing the dramtization of wall street so evey bloody sissy in the states could dry me a river about the poor soul who ended up on unemployment for 20 weeks. I am telling you people, Romney isn’t a political insider, it is against his in bread nature. This is why he lost last election and can’t get above 25% this election. There is a ton of money out there influencing this oposition to ROmeny, it is those who Romney wouldn’t make no promisesto if he became President. Sheldon ANderson, the head of this Super Pach for Nest and producer of this movie was part of scandals with Tom Delay. He renigged on bussiness deals and was is known through out the world as a man who wishes to buy political favors throughthe raw power of money. So why would he be against Romeny if he is an establishment person as so many of you have bought into ? Why would this guy back Newt ? The UK daily mailwas sued for revealing who this character is, he is much more evil than he even painted Romney to be. JUst chech out his wikipedia to start with. I looked up the billionaire that is funding the film with his $5 million possibly $15 million. Did you go back far enough. He isn’t just some corrupt casino owner who is under federal investigation. He is also on a vendetta against Romney. If you go back to Dec 2002, he was found bribing officials in Massachusetts trying to build a $1.5 billion casino complex. He created his own economic forecast report saying that it would boost the economy. Romney had a state run check on that report and did their own report and found out that the numbers were fudged.

If this is who Gingrich gets his money from, and if he knows about it, Gingrich should call for the PAC to give back all his $5 million and denounce him as a crony capitalist that Gingrich can’t accept.

Don’t blindly hop on the Romney bandwagon like fox news. Don’t believe the fox LIE that “Romney is the most electable”. THINK FOR YOURSELF.
We need to be focused on Getting Obama out of the white house, and only Newt has a remote chance. \What would happen if Romney debated Obama? It would take one public debate for Obama to clinch re-election against Romney. And unfortunately speaking ability and the perception of intelligence are the most important qualities needed to win an election(proven by obama winning in 2008). With that said Gingrich is the only Candidate that would put Obama in his place in a debate.
Romney is truly the BIG GOVERNMENT PROGRESSIVE REPUBLICAN. He believes in government stimulus(which is a fact), and ROMNEY CARE was the BASIS for OBAMA CARE!! Not to mention Romney has a history of losing. To Ted Kennedy and to john Mccain(2008′s Big government excuse for a republican).

You know it was that election that the Boston Globe called Romney too conservative. His competitors called him a right winger.

Also, the stimulus would have worked if done correctly. Don’t you remember what the Republicans, including Romney were working for in a stimulus. ALL TAX CUTS. You have a short memory. It would have worked if you got businesses to get excited to do business. All Republicans were talking about a stimulus of tax cuts, so was Romney. Sorry, I am on break at work and can’t watch YouTubes (blocked).

Is this the clip where he said he had Progressive views? No where did he say he was a modern day progressive. Remember until 2005 he fought to keep abortions ‘safe and legal’. That was considered a progressive stance. So yes he did have some. He was an independent for most of his life. So was Reagan. Reagan also voted for an abortion bill in California, then he realized the errors of his ways, same as Bush.

Also depends your definition of progressive means. CS Lewis: “We all want progress, but if you’re on the wrong road, progress means doing an about-turn and walking back to the right road; in that case, the man who turns back soonest is the most progressive.” And as everyone knows, if you are progressing in Massachusetts, you are becoming conservative.

I am glad you know what his heart is, I don’t, never claim to. What I do know is that his record was very conservative.

If I wanted to claim I knew someones heart I would reference where Gingrich praised Roosevelt as the greatest president and that he, Newt was a Wilsonian Republican. Everyone needs to wake up and understand what TRUE LIBERTY is.
Please read, THE LAW, By Frederic Bastiat.

It doesnt matter if you are Left wing or Right wing.
Left wing wants government for economic issues and not personal issues.
Right wing wants government for personal issues and not economic issues.
Libertarians on the other hand, dont want government for personal or economic issues.

When ever someone forces something on you, it diminishes Liberty.
So even conservatives want government to say, ”no.drugs are bad, you cant do them.”
    This is called, Philanthropic Tyranny.

And when liberals want government to say, ”take some money from the rich and give it to the poor.”
    This is Philanthropic Tyranny aswell.

The end result is the same, YOU ARE TAKING FROM PEOPLES LIBERTY.
People have no say so in your life, we can run our own lives the way we choose, just as long as we dont harm others and their liberties.

We as Individuals have the right to our Life, Liberty, Property.
    Please watch this short video:http://www.thephilosophyofliberty.com/

This has been done many times with Reuters, publishing things from Think Progess and MoveOn. Now the pro-Gingrich group is pushing their message. Here is the MoveOn ad: http://url2it.com/leqn

Gingrich is a Big Government Progressive, haven’t you been listening to Glenn Beck. he still supports Global Warming and had to take it out of his book due to pressure to his campaign ( http://url2it.com/leqp ), he changed his mind… flip flopped on the individual mandate in May 2011 during the Meet the Press interview that originally sunk his campaign.

Romney is not a big government progressive. His individual mandate was “Pay for insurance or pay your own bill” the legislature changed it. They also took out Romney’s opt-out. He added measures to deregulate the insurance industry and give vouchers to those who couldn’t afford it to buy private insurance. This was not government take over of health care like ObamaCare. This is all according to Heritage Foundation and old Boston Globe articles. Romney’s plan was not big government take over. Gingrich wanted federal take over of the health care system, that is until May 2011, when his campaign fell apart.

Actually I am not a subscriber, I don’t get my information from Glenn, though I back him on many things. I research old papers and economic numbers. Romney turned around Bain Capital, Olympics, and Massachusetts with conservative values. In the case of Massachusetts he used conservative values to turn around the economy with a 85% liberal congress. Newt Gingrich had a majority in Congress that was Republican. That says a lot. Glenn has railed on Romney on tons, the only reason he attacks Gingrich is what everyone is starting to see, he is a Big Govt Progressive.

I now see what was said earlier about how Newt can get “personal.” I like alot of Newt’s policies, but I question him as a mature individual. At least Mitt disguises his immaturity. Neither exudes statesmanship. Frankly watching the debates Perry has come a long way towards handling himself. And Santorum is starting to show more emotion in his oratory. If Paul had a sensible policy towards international affairs and wasn‘t an isolationist I think he’d win. The heart of winning lies with the emotional middle of the road and collecting those votes.

“Who started it? And is there a grain of truth there?

The answer lies in Democratic, not Republican politics, and in the bitter, exhausting spring of 2008. At the time, the Democratic presidential primary was slipping away from Hillary Clinton and some of her most passionate supporters grasped for something, anything that would deal a final reversal to Barack Obama.

That theory first emerged in the spring of 2008, as Clinton supporters circulated an anonymous email questioning Obama’s citizenship.

“Barack Obama’s mother was living in Kenya with his Arab-African father late in her pregnancy. She was not allowed to travel by plane then, so Barack Obama was born there and his mother then took him to Hawaii to register his birth,” asserted one chain email that surfaced on the urban legend site Snopes.com in April 2008.”

      http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0411/53563.html#ixzz1izezEDnW

Thought this was pretty well known? Yes, Clinton’s campaign started birtherism; it proved to be rather ineffective among the Democrats, but a bunch of GOP members (and conspiracy theorists) took up the torch after.
