Is This ‘the Greatest Bowling Blooper Clip of All Time?’

Josh Blanchard Funny Bowling Fall on ESPNIt’s the kind of clip that most likely lives on thousands of home video cameras across the country. And it probably involves a lot of uncles and fathers, not professional bowlers. What am I talking about? I’m talking about the clip of professional bowler Josh Blanchard tumbling over himself while trying to take a shot during an ESPN-televised bowling event.

Here’s how it went down:

Thought it was funny? Well, it seems no one at the event did. Yahoo! picked up on that (and noted the clip will become the best bowling blooper of “all time”):

The most amazing part is that nobody laughs! Not the fans, not the announcers, not the opponents, not the guy himself. To listen to their seriousness, you’d have thought Blanchard had seriously injured himself, not made himself the subject of what will become the greatest bowling blooper clip of all time.

Agree or disagree?

“You can‘t understand why people didn’t laugh??? You’re the type to laugh at someone who has an accident?”

“Having an accident” and “humiliating yourself in front of cameras during a professional sporting event” are two very different things. The only thing hurt was his pride, and we, as a society, should be ready to laugh at others. In this way, the people do not become an arrogant and pompous people.

In fact, it is patriotic to laugh at people, and it is even more patriotic to be laughed at.

Pass some knee-jerk consumer protections laws!!!
      Oh, that’s stupid?
Well, let’s just ignore the Constitution, Congress, and the will of the people, and appoint another czar to create POLICY that will “protect” people from these atrocities!!!

How about some mandatory bowling ball fitment laws?
We could haul him before Congress and spend millions asking if he ever took male hormones (“steroids”) and criminalize him if he has. (But then we can hand female hormones out FREE to 13 yr old girls at school and call them “birth control”)

Actually as a bowler I have to admit that it is a bit funny when things like that happen that is when you find out the person was not seriously hurt. There are risks with every sport, and yes bowling is a sport. That said as a long time bowler I know and fully understand the potential for injury in this type of sport in fact I have a few myself. What it came down to with Josh is that his thumb hung in the ball and once his foot hit the lane there is no way, I don’t care who you are, that he was not going down. Now was he hurt, well he will be a bit sore from falling into the gutter and his lower back hitting the well cover that’s for sure and I do hope that he did not seriously injure his lower back from that. I will tell you from years of experience that when this type of thing happens it is near impossible to hold your balance due to the momentum of the ball. Those of you that would spit out your nachos and spray soda from your nose when this happens are the ones that have never experienced it, if you ever do, and I pray that you don’t. then you will not find near as funny as you did and know I don’t have my panties in a wad so to speak, I just know how bad it can hurt although most of us long time, and even those professional bowlers will recover, and yea the ego does get bruised but like life you take your lumps and move forward.

Yep, I have sent many a ball up in the air before it hit the lanes. Sweat or rosin bags are a bowlers worse nightmare and if you hands get sweaty or use too much rosin, nothing you do will let the ball go except a stroke of luck. I’ve also used too much baby powder and dropped the ball upon release. I haven’t bowled in quite awhile, but I used electrical tape to add and subtract the fit depending on the change in fingers and conditions of the bowling alley.

I have bowled for years and am now bowling left handed due to some physical limitations affecting my right side. For years though I bowled right handed and was aggressive with my release, that is to say I had a slightly high back swing and got a lot of wrist action in the release. One night I had gotten up on the approach and set myself, little did I know that a bowler on the opposing team was using easy slide on his thumb and in overabundance. I start into my approach and as I am coming into the slide and through my swing my feet made contact with the residue which sent both feet up in the air, I got out the ball but when I came down I came down hard and as I put my right hand down to catch myself I rolled slightly and bent my pinky finger completely back over the brace I was wearing, not to mention the hard thump I was hurting pretty good although like Josh I brushed it off and continued the game but not until after I let the idiot that was using easy slide on his thumb how I felt and what I would do if I caught him doing it again. LOL

Josh Blanchard tried to stop before his delivery, but the 16 pound weight had too much momentum and he couldn’t hold up. Once you step over the line, you’re a dead duck, because, for the uneducated, the lanes are oiled on the other side of that line. Ever slipped on the ice, it’s the same kind of deal here. This isn’t funny. People are hurt all the time at bowling alleys because they want to be funny and step over that line and quickly, but too late…realize it’s slick. Concussions, broken ankles and wrists, bruises galore. Yeah, that’s real funny…NOT

And they make it worse by walking that oil back onto the delivery area. If your shoe sticks on the lanes, you then go flying. Bowlers rely the ability to slide up to the edge, if you can’t slide and your shoe sticks, you can break an arm or leg from the fall.

Variety IS the spice-of-life. Everything in life is NOT a scale from one-to-ten to be news-worthy.
Getting the fingers stuck in the bowling-ball has crossed many of our minds when bowling. Sounds corny but like to watch bowling because it takes tenacious accuracy once that ball is released and heading for the pins. Since many young people need instant gratification now-a-days, this kind of story is not news-worthy but for the older-crowd….I remember my brother earning a small-wage as a manual-pin-setter. The younger crowd would have a fit waiting for the next bowler after pins were set-up. I am not picking on the younger crowd..just an observation.

bowling balls can get heavy (and generally are when used by adults). getting a sprained wrist or hitting your ankle/knee (depending on how your body is positioned) is common and hurts like hell. also on the other side of the line the wood is heavily oiled and if you take one step on that with a 16 pound ball having the momentum it gets when you throw it there is no way you can keep your balance and so you will slip and fall and depending on how you land even small falls can cause bad injuries.

it’s the desensitization of America by communist Hollywood indoctrinators, 2 decades now of showing clips of people having accidents, even getting seriously hurt, and paying a reward for the one that brings the most laughs. makes it so much easier for people to turn in people they are jealous of/oppose, to walk over a person lying on the ground that has been shot by a dictator’s troops. if you look at ”The 45 DECLARED GOALS of COMMUNIST TAKE-OVER of AMERICA, (1963)” you will be shocked how they have defintely accomplished their list. we laugh at people having accidents and being hurt — and now are so desensitized we are disappointed when the victims are NOT laughed at.

What’s amazing about no one laughing at a professional athlete who almost seriously injured himself at a professional sports event? Maybe it would have been funnier if he broke his back. What a bunch of ghouls.

I agree with you JACKTHETOAD.Watched the clip three times and didn’t find it particularly funny either.

I didn’t think it was very funny either. I guess it’s all in the way it hits you when you see it. I don’t play or watch but these guys are serious about their profession and I respect that.

it‘s the desensitization of America’s younger generations. they were deliberately taught to find someone being in an accident or hurt as ”funny”
