Prominent NASA Climate Change Scientist Arrested at D.C. Protest

Global Warming Activist James Hansen Arrested Outside White House

Dr. James Hansen, the NASA scientist who claims that the agency tried to censor his findings about earth’s climate on behalf of the Bush administration, was one of 139 climate protesters arrested outside of the White House Monday. The protesters were demonstrating against the planned $7-billion Keystone XL pipeline, which would transport 500,000 barrels of crude per day from Canada all the way to the Gulf coast of Texas.

Video from Tar Sands Action captured the protesters at the White House:

The Raw Story – which calls Hansen “one of the nation’s foremost experts on climate change” — reports that 521 activists have been arrested since the series of protests began on Saturday, Aug. 21, including Greenpeace Executive Director Phil Radford, president of CREDO Mobile Michael Kieschnick, 350.org Executive Director May Boeve and Razzie award-winning Wall Street Actress Daryl Hannah.

“If Obama chooses the dirty needle it will confirm that the President was just green-washing all along, like the other well-oiled coal-fired politicians, with no real intention of solving the addiction,” Hansen told YubaNet.

“If the pipeline is to be built, you as president have to declare that it is ‘in the national interest.’ As scientists, speaking for ourselves and not for any of our institutions, we can say categorically that it’s not only not in the national interest, it‘s also not in the planet’s best interest.”

Global Warming Activist James Hansen Arrested Outside White House

Dr. Hansen currently runs NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies.

A U.S. State Department environmental impact study released last week claimed the pipeline would have a minimal effect on the environment, and officials maintained that even if the U.S. refuses the pipeline, Canada will just sell their oil elsewhere.

Maybe they wouldn’t mind it, if the pipeline would carry air, pumped from those windmills they like so much.

The funny part is one enviro group likes the wind mills but other enviro groups hate them because they kill birds and bats, i think it’s kind of fun to sit back and watch the two groups attack each other.

Speaking of wind mills they have literally destroyed the beautiful Columbia river Gorge between Oregon and Washington states. They liter each side of the river for miles and miles and are an ugly eyesore to the travelers along the river.

Maybe one should ask these Blazers which seems like a better source of energy, that big orange ball in the sky we call the sun or the deceased, decayed, and compressed corpses of plants and animals that metabolized this sunlight millions of years ago which we can then access through miles of crust, extract refine and burn?

Here is your answer Thelonius Monk. It would be better to get our energy directly from the source: the sun. Unfortunately, we cannot extract enough energy through highly inefficient solar panels to operate this great big complicated world. I remain hopeful that someone will develop the technology to sufficiently harness the suns energy. We’ve been trying to maximize solar collection for a long time and have made advances but still not enough. Actually, the solution is already at hand and that is nuclear. After all, the sun is just a very big nuclear reactor. We may learn one day that trying to collect radiation from the sun in solar panels is the wrong way to go about it considering we can create our own reactors. Our efforts probably should be in creating safer more efficient reactors which has more potential than better solar panels. The only energy source that produces more energy than it consumes is the chain reaction created by splitting the atom.
Read and understand the laws of thermal dynamics for a better understanding of conventional and non-conventional energy sources. “Green” energy is not nearly as easy as some would suggest. We would already be using solar, wind etc. if it was more efficient than fossil fuels. The facts about energy and its limitations are some times in direct opposition to what many “environmentalist” would suggest. This information is not hard to find or understand, you just have to seek it.

The wheels are beginning to come off, whacko liberals are so funny when they become un-hinged. Someday we will tell our children jokes about these clowns and the stupid crap they tried to pull. The hippies in the 60′s thought they were so relevant and important also, they weren’t. Soon they will die off and they will be remebered as curious carnival freaks, as will todays batch of losers and malcontents.

i was a teenager in the sixties. i can’t tell you how many times i heard the flower children say ” just wait till we’re in charge”. i mean, picture nancy pelosi in a granny dress, with granny glasses, playing a tambourine in haight- ashbury. not a far stretch for me. and the new batch of wackos are the ones who are so disappointed that they couldn’t grow up in that era, that they will get on board with anyone who says “free stuff for everyone”. this guy could have been standing next to nancy playing his recorder. anyway, the folks running things now have been around for a long time. i don’t see them leaving for a long time. we’ve allowed them to get their foot in the door, and they’re not going to give it up without a fight.

Don‘t these environmentalists understand that if the US doesn’t buy the oil from Canada (a friend) that the Chinese will? They have already offered to buy it if the US doesn’t. This pipeline will help reduce our nation’s dependence on middle eastern oil and create jobs. The oil will be drilled – it’s just a matter of who gets it. The environmentalists are accomplishing nothing by protesting.

I Love Florida, and the BP Spill was a terrible tragedy, but for us to not drill ever again (under this administration) we will fall beyond the superpower that we have been and the greatness of our country will be crushed! The weaning of America from foreign oil needs to be multi faceted with an oil, coal, nuclear, green hydroelectric component. The effort to force feed green energy is a Marxist ploy to bankrupt the capitalistic system along with the dependancy overload. It is not about green energy it is about destroying free enterprise.
