‘Proper Procedure’: TSA Defends 95-Year-Old’s Diaper Pat-Down

The TSA is doubling down after it was revealed that screeners in Florida forced a 95-year-old lukemia patient to remove her adult diaper in order to complete a pat-down.

“While every person and item must be screened before entering the secure boarding area, TSA works with passengers to resolve security alarms in a respectful and sensitive manner,” the agency said in a statement on Sunday. “We have reviewed the circumstances involving this screening and determined that our officers acted professionally and according to proper procedure.”

“If this is your procedure — which I do understand — I also feel that your procedure needs to be changed,” Jean Weber, the daughter of the elderly woman who was traveling with her mother during the incident, told CNN:

Weber gave more details to CNN on how the pat-down occured:

While going through security, the 95-year-old was taken by a TSA officer into a glassed-in area, where a pat-down was performed, Weber said. An agent told Weber “they felt something suspicious on (her mother’s) leg and they couldn’t determine what it was” — leading them to take her into a private, closed room.

Soon after, Weber said, a TSA agent came out and told her that her mother’s Depend undergarment was “wet and it was firm, and they couldn’t check it thoroughly.” The mother and daughter left to find a bathroom, at the TSA officer’s request, to take off the adult diaper.

Weber said she burst into tears during the ordeal, forcing her own pat-down and other measures in accordance with TSA protocol. But she said her mother, a nurse for 65 years, “was very calm” despite being bothered by the fact that she had to go through the airport without underwear.

Eventually, Weber said she asked for her mother to be whisked away to the boarding gate without her, because their plane was scheduled to leave in two minutes and Weber was still going through security.

    Stories like this will continue until we stand up and demand that the TSA be disbanded and removed from our society. They will continue to violate our rights as Americans until we do something about it. The problem is, as usual, not enough people will stand together to see it through and see this group of thugs removed. Case in point…see IRS. Could have removed them 20, 30, 40 years ago, but apparently Americans are fine with being screwed by the Federal Mafia.

      The harm done is as follows:
      #1) A direct violation of the 4th Amendment. There is no warrant signed by a judge detailing what you are suspected of doing and what is to be searched. If you cannot understand why this is so important then no further explanation will help.

      #2) If a passenger appears to be a member of a group which has declared war on ALL non-believers then there is probable cause to search them. They CHOOSE to belong to a group of 7th century camel loving monkey boys worshiping a pedophile therefore they are a DECLARED enemy of civilization and should not be afforded the privileges of civilized society.

      #3) Because we have citizens, who have no backbone, and simply are willing to give up the rights given by our creator to those who are FORBIDDEN by the Constitution to trample on those rights, we have lost the war on Is-Slime and they have won by destroying the very fabric of our way of life.

    I don’t care how they defend it. I don’t care if they say that a terrorist could take advantage of the 95 year old woman and fill her chair with explosives. I have never seen a 95 year old white woman strapped with bombs trying to blow anyone up. It hasn’t happened to my knowledge, and my intuition says that it won’t ever happen. However, they have been known to load up their wives with explosives and send them to their death. I think we should only screen those who appear to be terroists and let everyone else carry weapons on the plane.

    What they are doing is too ridiculous for me to stand. I will not fly until the TSA is shut down.

    So basically if she DID have a bomb in the Depends (no pun intended), the TSA, without identifying the mysterious “lump,” allowed her to take a time out from the grope, go to the bathroom, and remove the diaper and presumably the “lump?” Really?

      Exactly. The TSA requested the daughter FIND a bathroom so the depend could be removed. They couldn’t provide a private area?? Of course not. Lets send Grandma & her explosives to the nearest public restroom so she can leave the “bomb” in the trash. THEN she could get on the plane.

    Sorry, “no sale”. Idea: someone needs to go through this dressed as a female Muslim with a burqa (don’t know the spelling) with something that will set their “alarm bells” off—- videotape it — if they DON’T ask her to remove it so they can check her more thoroughly —- then put it on YouTube, try to get it out to all the news media nationally. How much you want to bet they wouldn’t ask her to take it off bc of pc/fear, etc.????? Believe me, the Muslims would have huge fits of outrage if that happened. Keep doing this kind of stuff, get more stories like this one on the news, flood their Reps. offices w/el-mails, calls, etc., don’t fly. If enough people do these things, we probably could get something done. I refuse to fly – drove to Ohio from Texas bc of this. Then — come up with the better, effective plan for security — do what Israel does !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      i haven’t flown since this started.. i wont.
      i will end up in jail. they are assaulting you, any way you look at it, and i would be forced to defend myself…
      there is no ‘just cause’ for these searches.. no american will, after 9/11, sit quiet in their chair if ANYONE attempts ANYTHING on a plane.. that is the simple truth…

      before 9/11 … hijacks were NEVER crashing of planes.. it was always, land and meet the demands.. noone was ever hurt.. THAT is the ONLY reason that noone made a move. THAT WOULD NEVER HAPPEN TODAY. proof? the 3rd plane is the proof… after someone ON THE PLANE heard from someone else on the ground, that one of the planes that was hijacked was crashed into the building, they immediately overpowered the hijacker, but it was too late to not crash… i don’t think A SINGLE person would let anyone do ANYTHING on a plane today. they can sniff for bombs and weapons.. but full body cavity searches for weapons? if they pull some small knife out of their butt and stand up on a plane, i’ll give it about 1 second before 10 people jump on them.

      I have to fly for work. I actually observe which line to get in before going through security. BTW, I don’t believe the airlines have anything to do with this do they? This is big government BS… so if you stop flying that simply kills off another “private” industry and big brother steps in and bails them out.

      For years I flew because of my work. Right after 9/11 I witnesses the start of this PC crap of targeting every 5th passenger. Ladies older than my mom were being hassled while Arabs in full dress being waved through. It made no sense then, it makes no sense now.

      I too would probably end up in jail over someone doing this to my Mom. Maybe when someone takes down one of these jerks with a few martial arts moves, they will realize how utterly stupid this is. Remember, our esteemed Secretary of Home Security saying to the effect that using common sense is not good policy. I guess the TSA follows their leader blindly.

      Defending the indefensible……how revolting.

      Everybody needs to just calm down. We don’t need no stinking TSA patdowns. We don’t need no stinking diaper inspections (the dirty diaper probably set off the bomb sniffer). We don’t need no stinking fondling of infants and young children, and daddies and hot mommies (well, uhh, never mind), and wrinkly grammies and grampies. All we need to do is to pass everyone by a bomb sniffer. If they don’t pass, they don’t fly. Take a bath or change your diaper or something. Also we should allow all concealed weapons licencees to bring their weapon of choice on the pland, issue a weapon to anyone else that asks for one and that would stop any crazies from trying something stupid. Perhaps we could put an emergency evacuatiioin shute in the floor of the plane, not for emergency evacuations but to be used to launch self-proclaimed terrorists out of. One more rule would be that everyone swears that what happens on the plane stays on the plane (except for those that were launched out or the emergency shute. There you go. All the TSA bunch would have to get a job that contributes to society.

      The TSA wouldn’t know a respectful and sensitive manner if it bit them on the butt. Like I said before, they claim that they are doing these searches on children and older citizens based on a profile of children and older people being used for terrorist attacks. I would love to see any kind of report showing how many non-muslim children under 10 and non-muslim older people have done these types of acts. I would be willing to bet that the report would show that NO non-muslim child and NO non-muslim older people have EVER done this. They are lying out of their teeth when they claim that. I would also love to see a FACTUAL report that shows the percentages of non-muslims being screened and the percentage of muslims being screened as well as broken down by nationality. I would be willing to bet that it is very disproportionate since it is clear as anything could be that the TSA are protecting the muslims from being screened and the non-muslims being harassed to show their friendship with the muslims.

      I have flown many times in my 71 years and never had anyone put a hand on me except once, when I somehow caught my 3″ heel on the steps getting off the plane and lost my balance. I fell forward — right onto the outstretched arms of the pilots. They held me up until I could get my feet where they belonged.

      Those days are over. Since Obama (or whatever is name is) has been in office, the United States as a nation is not safe; we are daily fighting his Muslim brotherhood; our borders are wide open; his Bureau of ATF under Homeland Security is under investigation, his administration reeks a putrid odor of corruption, and yet the NUDGING continues.

      Oh, how I long for the days when Americans were free, when the world respected us, when our troops were appreciated and cared for by our leaders, when Members of Congress worked for the people instead of an unconstitutional agenda, when we humbly asked God to help us get a good education in school, and when America was beautiful because of her values of a stable home.

      I BELIEVE: That the TSA is only trying to DEMORALIZE AMERICANS. THEY have the names of potential suspects in this country; they know what passports say; they know what terrorists look like; they have ways to spot them by their actions. THERE IS NO EXCUSE WHATSOEVER to make a 95 year old Cancer Stricken Lady remove her Adult Diapers…IF she has proper Identification…if she has lived in the USA, same or verifiable address.       DID you guys know this took 45 MINUTES…45???? and that this LADY, GOD BLESS HER, didn’t have a replacement adult diaper??

      Think about it: WHY does anyone have to be checked if they have lived in AMERICA for a number of years…and/or what about this: What about Elderly people who have medical conditions being able to go to their LOCAL POLICE STATION and get “CLEARED” by local officials and get a Notarized Statement which they can hand to these bastards on the TSA line and therefore get a pass

      WHO would want to fly nowadays? I’m sure the AIRLINES are beginning to get the message that many of us who could fly anywhere any time just will not subject ourselves to this insult. AND IT IS AN INSULT!!! A person who has lived all their lives in ONE place for over 5 years, who have proper IDs…can pass thru regular scanner but do not have to be touched…and CERTAINLY not
      this type of horrific, tragic, stupifying, insulting nonsense.

      THEY ARE ONLY TRYING TO DEMORALIZE US…we know this…you aren’t fooling anyone you dastardly JANET NAPOLITANO or any of the rest of you horrible PROGRESSIVE ANTI AMERICANS.

      WHY doesn’t some Politician suggest this. DAMN THEM for this. Good thing it wasn’t my mother or father. I know that some solution can be accomplished SOLONGAS people are trying.

      Another job well done by professional gropers. This could be stopped if the people would refuse to fly until it is stopped. The gropping would be OK with me if the gropper was a good looking female and she did it in a private room for a couple of hours.

      Stop flying-I did. Can you imagine if everyone took a stand and didn’t fly,,,even for just a month??? Airlines/airports couldn’t afford it and would put some serious, serious pressure on the gov’t.

      Going back and looking at the horror stories of TSA groping, I can’t find one that involves any race other than Whites. If a Black woman will call 911 over some McNuggets, CERTAINLY they’d lose it over being asked to comply with a body search?

      Goes back to the old saying “All Muslims are not terrorist, but ALL terrorist ARE MUSLIMS”.

      Realize that the TSA ALWAYS defends their workers.
      Ask to speak to a supervisor at the airport, and that supervisor will always back up the screener.
      Of course, you can’t see the rules, because they’re “secret”, no really.

      Remember, Janet Napolitano said “The system worked” after the botched undie bomber fiasco.
      They will say anything to protect the system.
