‘Propoganda?’: Did You Happen to See Barack Obama on ‘American Idol’ Last Night?

A lot has been said about President Obama’s impromptu Al Green song that he belted out for a fundraiser last month. The video went viral, and even the president’s critics recognized the president can sing. And if you were watching “American Idol” on Wednesday, you would have seen it all over again.

That’s because one of the contestants, Elise Testone, chose the Al Green song that Obama resurrected, “Let’s Stay Together.” And during a pre-taped segment, one of the guest mentors, Will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas, couldn’t help but note that Obama had belted out the tune. He suggested a sing off, and seconds later, the show was playing Testone and Obama side-by-side. Here’s how it went down:

That raised the eyebrows of some. Noel Sheppard over at Newsbusters didn’t like it:

In an election year?

Now, the reality is this should be wholesome, brainless fun, right?

But for eight years, the media bludgeoned Americans with how awful President George W. Bush was.

This man couldn’t mow the lawn at his ranch in Texas without being criticized for doing so.

Now, you can’t turn on a musical competition – in an election year! – without images of how marvelous the man in the White House is.

Can’t Americans spend a couple of hours watching television with their families without having propaganda about the president jammed down their throats?

It should be noted that Will.i.am is an ardent Obama supporter. In 2008 he starred in several pro-Obama videos featuring artists and celebrities:

And during the 2011 Super Bowl he even brought Obama into his halftime performance.

With all that said, it would make sense that Will.i.am would want to take every opportunity to bolster the president’s image with the “Idol” audience. But it should also be noted that the show is a singing show, and Obama — whether people like it or not — did deliver one of the most popular singing performances of the year. And it was a performance even his critics enjoyed. For example, Glenn Beck has said on radio that it was good — so good, in fact, that Obama should just quit being president and work on his singing career.

What do you think? Did “American Idol” go too far? Is television in general going too far to make Obama look good (consider also that ESPN has featured Obama for its annual segment “Barack-etology” — where Obama makes his NCAA March Madness picks)?

      I’m just afraid the young people will miss the things that Obama is actually doing to destroy our country. They just see “fun”..
      When George 2 went to the “ranch”..it was usually to work, meet with people in private etc. Yet we allow the press to call them “vacations” compaing to Obama’s rest and relaxation outings. We saw the place that Bush met with leaders out on the ranch..who does Obama meet with except room service…
      We allow this BS…AND I’m tired of seeing his face everyday, everyday everyday on tv…

      First thing that comes to mind is Will I.AM uses autotune on his voice (anyone see THAT Super Bowl performance of his?) So why is he being a vocal coach? Secondly…he’s been a shameless and blind shill for Obama since the 2008 campaign why stop now? Watching the footage, the girl looks a little uncomfortable singing in this manner with Obama (without her thoughts on the matter I’m only speculating). It would be unfortunate if American “Idle” voters reacted negatively to her for agreeing to appear in this way with Obama.

      This is diabolical. I bet President Obama PLANNED to sing those two sentences at an event Al Green attended. He planned it, he knew it would be taped he probably even practiced for two minutes. Does that surprise you, given how evil this President is?

      First of all, even if Glenn tells you all to do that, you clearly don’t. Just look at the comments under the article about GBTV. You’ll see a vast number of comments claiming that they only get their news from GBTV and Glenn Beck. Furthermore, there are many factual inaccuracies that all of you just ignore or don’t realize are incorrect.

      As for your claim that Obama just wants everyone to believe him and take his word for Gospel, point to an instance where he has said this. But, what is so wrong about someone wanting others to believe them? Don’t you want your friends and colleagues to believe you? That doesn’t mean that you should take everything for granted as everything needs to be questioned. However, Glenn Beck fans don’t question anything he says. If you don’t believe me, just look at the comments on this board and how they blindly follow everything he preaches.

      I boycott shows that I do not like. I don’t believe in censorship so I switch channels. I do not watch the reality shows, soap operas, nor the talent contest shows. I do try to watch some of the liberal news propaganda programs to get their point of view but have to switch them off before I throw up. I can’t take much of those programs.

      Apparently you missed the point about the claim that Beck raped and killed a girl. I made that comment because it is exactly what Glenn does every day and then says to prove him wrong, which is something you can’t do. However, that doesn’t mean it is correct. Beck said that he couldn’t debunk the FEMA concentration camps theory, however, he also couldn’t find anything to support it.

      And no, I don’t actually think he killed or raped anyone, it was simply to prove a point which you clearly missed.

      Mitt doesn’t believe Obama is intentionally ruining this country. That is because he is a RINO. He is worse than M.cCain. He is blasting Santorum for ads he says are “dishonest” when he crucified Gingrich with false ads? What?????????
      I am glad Gingrich seems to be working to get Santorum the nom.. The left wants Mitt.. gee.. why is that? It is because they believe they can defeat him.

      Romney is running a general election campaign. He could potentially lose the primary because he is not throwing out the red meat to the far right ,but he knows if he did that,he would have no chance of winning the general election.

      I think Romney is playing it smart by keeping his comments measured….you have a better chance of persuading non republicans with civility verses vitriol. My family is divided politically and all I can say is that if Romney keeps the focus on jobs and the economy….he should be able to beat Obama…..and hopefully his win will prompt more GOP senate and house wins.

      Indeed, just because he is black, Obama got Colin Powell’s recommedation, endorsement and vote. No fReal, America Loving Republican could ever have thrown the US under the bus for such a loser.     I do not watch American idol or any other reality TV except for Man vs Food. I suggest a boycott of all these brainless reality shows with the no talent morons but in this society with 0 common sense I expect people will continue to support this garbage which will contribute to its undoing
