‘Protected by God’: Colo. Shooting Victim Survives Bullet Through the Brain After Rare Defect Miraculously Becomes a Life-Saver

Aurora Shooting Victim Petra Anderson Makes Miracle Recovery

Petra Anderson

An immeasurable amount of tragedy has emerged following the Aurora, Colorado, shooting massacre. But among the stories of loss and pain is the fascinating, inspirational and practically-unbelievable tale of 22-year-old Petra Anderson’s miracle recovery.

On Friday, the young woman joined countless others in heading to Century 16 Movie Theater to see “The Dark Night Rises.” In the end, she was one of the victims facing serious injury early that morning, sustaining multiple gunshot wounds, including taking a bullet through her brain.

Being shot a total of four times, Anderson’s injuries were extensive. While the first three bullets hit her arm, the fourth went through her nose, heading up through her cranium and reaching all the way to the back of her skull, The Huffington Post reports.

Obviously, her condition was critical. The seriousness was underscored by the fact that doctors feared Anderson would lose control over her speech, motor and/or cognitive abilities. To get a sense of the true level of concern, consider what Anderson’s pastor, Brad Strait, wrote on his blog about Anderson’s injuries:

With awesome people from our caring and pastoral team, I spent all day Friday in the ICU with Petra and her family. Her injuries were severe, and her condition was critical. A bullet had entered Petra’s face through her nose, and then traveled up through her brain until stopping at the back of her skull. The doctors prior to surgery were concerned, because so much of the brain had been traversed by the bullet. Many areas of brain function were involved. They were hoping to keep her alive long enough to get her into surgery. The prognosis was uncertain—if she lived, Petra might struggle with speech, movement, and thinking due to considerable brain damage. With Kim, Petra’s mother (who is in the final stages of terminal cancer), we simply cried, hugged, and prayed.

But, alas, during a five-hour surgery, the unthinkable happened. Doctors were able to remove the bullet seamlessly and Anderson’s brain, remarkably, sustained very little damage. Now, this seems like an impossibility, but the young woman reportedly had a birth defect that had previously gone unnoticed — a tiny vein of fluid that extended through her skull. So small, in fact, that it would only be detectable on a CAT Scan.

The New York Daily News explains how this bizarre abnormality actually saved Anderson’s life when the bullet entered her head:

Doctors said the bullet traveled through the vein, just missing the vital parts of Anderson’s brain.

Strait said that a doctor told him the surgery “couldn’t have gone any better,” and that if Anderson was his daughter he’d “be dancing a jig.”

The recent University of Pacific graduate has continued to improve since the surgery.

She was moved from the ICU Monday, according to a post by Anderson’s older sister, Chloe Anderson, on a Facebook page for Petra.

She’s started to walk and speak again, as well.

“She could have lost all kinds of function [if] the bullet traversed her brain,” her mother said in an interview with the Sacramento Bee. ”I believe that she was not only protected by God, but that she was actually prepared for it.”

The miracle recovery is making rounds in media, as many grapple to comprehend the odds of the bullet hitting the same location as a previously-unfounded (and life-saving) birth defect. While Anderson is recovering, her family is in need of financial help to offset the cost of her medical treatment and her mother’s as well (as mentioned in Strait’s blog, the young woman’s mother, Kim, is dying of cancer).

An online campaign has been launched on Indiegogo, as evidenced, below. As if 7:15 ET on Tuesday, it has already brought in $82,590:

Aurora Shooting Victim Petra Anderson Makes Miracle Recovery

Accompanying the fundraising plea is a video featuring Anderson’s sister, Chloe, that further explains the situation and the family’s needs.

“Our family has been shaken by the events of last Friday but we have not been broken,” Chloe said. ”We’re watching heroes appear everywhere we look.”

Watch the video, below:

“There is much ahead. More surgeries. Facial reconstruction, perhaps,” Strait wrote. “And for Kim, chemo therapy to stretch every moment out of life. But life remains. The ending is yet to be written for this family.”

Sometimes, miracles truly do happen.

I’m pretty sure the movie was about a “Dark Knight,“ not a ”Dark Night.” Batman, yes?
Also, that’s not what the word “alas” means. “Alas” means something between “unfortunately” and “Oh, god, why did this have to happen.” To say that, alas, the young lady survived surgery and may not have speech deficits is to say that you wish she had died or at least come out with scrambled speech.

As far as God saving her by giving her a brain defect . . . even if the facts the pastor is passing along are true, that seems like a stretch. What did God have against the people He decided should be killed by an ******* in a costume?

I‘m sorry you feel this way and can’t see the miraculous in this. God did not kill those people that kid did because the Lord gave us free will. I don’t know why one lives and another dies but to discredit Who God is shows your lack of faith. I hope that someday you can ask God to reveal Himself to you and I promise you will NEVER be the same. This life will never be perfect because it’s fallen but He assures us in His Word that those who believe and accept Jesus will be saved and enjoy the eternal home….heaven.

Would it be better that God were to always slay the wicked before they did their evil deeds?

In that event, the wold would be empty, devoid of all human life.

I wish that those who had died were still here, as the grief interred upon their families, friends and community must be great.

Although, those who have passed on should be envied as they are now in paradise, and cannot be harmed by the evils of this world any longer.

@Don Gwinn God had nothing against those who were killed. That he saved many, particularly Ms. Anderson, is evidence of His mercy even when we choose to be monsters. Death isn’t the worst thing that can happen to us. It’s difficult & part of the human story because we rebel against God. For those who repent & accept Christ as their Saviour, death is walking through a door into the arms of our Best Friend. For those who continue to rebel, death is receiving what is desired, freedom from God – forever. Ultimately, only God knows if you or I will repent & persevere until death. Some repent for a bit only to become worse rebels. Others repent & accept Him at the last minute.

There are at least 2 lessons in the CO shooting: 1) Luke 13:1-5, Jesus tells His followers that those accidentally or intentionally killed are not worse sinners than anyone else but that unless we repent we will perish. Repent if you want life.

      2) The worst thing that can happen is to be like the shooter. That’s deep rebellion. He freely chose to kill as if he were God & had the right to destroy those people because he made them. The worst that can happen to us is to misuse our free will so that we fool ourselves into believing that we are God, self-idolators who are greater than others, whom we may coolly destroy – like Nero, like the CO shooter, like many others.

God was not angry w/ those who died. God loves us so much He will not interfere w/ our freedom even when we choose to kill each other.

Amazing? Yes. Miracle? No. Now before you say anything, I am a Bible believing Christian and that’s where we should look to for the definition of a miracle. Are people born with birth defects? Yes, all the time. Are people shot or struck with various items that it‘s a wonder they weren’t killed? Yes, it happens. But if you look at all the miracles done in the Bible they were done with a suspension of the natural laws. Examples: Raising one from the dead who had been dead for 4 days, a person blind since birth is now able to see clearly, water from a rock, a talking donkey, walking on water, calming a storm etc. While I’m amazed that this woman was not killed and am glad she survived I do not see it as a “miracle” as defined by God’s word.

Where does the assumption come from that because one person miraculously lives, God must not care about others? That’s a pessimistic stretch. Perhaps Petra has something else important to do in life, and perhaps that is needed in the larger scheme of things. I do not doubt for an instant that God is deeply saddened by the actions of that deranged young man, and the loss of so many good lives. However, we don’t know His plan and His mind do we? So to assume something like this is so sad and pessimistic rather than rejoicing in one bit of wonderful news.

Don: God gave us free will to choose between good and evil, life and death. God is the author of life and Satan who rebelled against God became the author of death. We all choose. The young man who did this horrific act chose death and must pay for his rebellion and should pay with his life. We are blaming God for something he did not do. The author of death needs to be blamed and the young man who wanted to play god.

Maybe if you believe God created you and gave you free will you would understand that all of us have free will God-given. How we all deal with it is why some folks chose a life of crime and mad driven ideas that lead to murder. It only takes one madman to destroy others lives. He used he free will to become a mad crazy murdering human being. He could have chosen to be a sane happy careing human being. It was his choice, not God’s..
We have choices to make every moment of every day. To be on the good side or the evil side. This man chose evil. yes God gave the Tree of Life and He did it to make sure Adam And Eve would populate. Had they been perfect humans with no knowledge of good and evil the rest of us would not be here.

Gods free will in a nutshell:
“God says do what you wish, but make the wrong choice and you will be tortured for eternity in hell. That sir, is not free will. It would be akin to a man telling his girlfriend, do what you wish, but if you choose to leave me, I will track you down and blow your brains out. When a man says this we call him a psychopath and cry out for hisimprisonment/execution. When god says the same we call him ‘loving’ and build churches in his honor.” — William C. Easttom II,

You probably don’t understand that all the bad things that happen in this world are not caused by God but are caused by sin. We live in a sinful world and because we live in this world then bad things are going to happen. Not because God allowed her to live, he wants everyone to live and have a fruitful life. But sin is in the world and it manifest into a shooter who doesn’t understand what he is doing and goes ahead with his plan that he wrote out in a letter. It is sin that caused the happenings in Colorado not God.

This story has provoked quite a discussion as to the source of this miracle.

For those of us who have faith and trust in God, we believe it came from Him.

While others who do not, may not see it that way and attribute it to “Luck”.

Either way this is looked at, it is a miracle and I hope that some of you will open your mind to things beyond your own reasoning and scientific & medical explanation.

Science and Medicine are inspired things to follow, however, I feel that many who put their understanding of them ahead of the possibility of a higher power are going to to lose the reason why some of these things happen.

I don’t have enough information to calculate it, but just think about the number of people that could have been in that situation instead that did not have that exact birth defeat, the angle of the bullet in 3 dim space, the number of theaters in the area, the different days that she could have chosen to see the movie, the different hours each day the movie shows, and the different locations she could have been position in inside the theater and the odds of her even being hit out of a crowd of people. For those who were wounded and or died there were those who did not, there were miracles, there will be philanthropic ventures undertaken, there will be selfish people made more grateful and compassionate and each of those things will reach out loving concentric circles until the master plan has been fulfilled previous the return of our great and loving King.
You can defame Him and rail against Him for not stopping tragedy or always stepping beyond our current medical advances – which He sometimes does anyway – or forcing people to be good or you can recognize that live in a world full of free agents acting on free wills who have rejected the revealed will of the Creator including you. In recognizing the latter you can humbly seek Him, and ask for forgiveness for you own part in choosing yourself and your will over His. In so doing, the anger and confusion is replaced confidence, security, and comfort for your future and in His sovereignty. Most will reject this.

God’s indifference and capriciousness have been seen in every tragedy that has ever been experienced. For those who were not maimed or murdered there were those who were, there was randomness to the violence, there will be tortured minds and crippled bodies, there will be once happy people turned to desperation and hopelessness, and each of those things will reach out bitter and damaged concentric circles until the chaos has been overcome by each person’s resolute determination to live on despite the cruelty that has been inflicted upon them, and they can finally and forever bury the deity of an ancient delusion.
You can worship a myth and pray to the God of your imagination, who says you were born broken and curses you for it, or you can recognize that we live in a world full of free agents acting on free wills and utterly reject the superstitions of the past and know that religious people believe a lie. In recognizing the latter you can humbly see yourself as a source of enlightenment in a world made darker by the ‘faith’ of deluded minds. In so doing, you will encounter their anger and confusion but we may hope that these will be replaced with a release from closed-mindedness and a renewed sense of human solidarity. Unfortunately, most of the delusional thinkers will reject this.

The reason this country is going down the tubes is because as a nation more and more we are turning away from God, this includes morally and economically and will only get worse. We have more and more stressed out people being generated now then ever before in our history. We are as a nation on a path to self destruct from within, without Gods blessings as a nation. He has blessed us for many years as we recognized his word and stood up and looked out for Israel, and as a nation regarded Gods word, even simple things like the 10 commandments in schools, public faciltiy etc. but with all the politcal correctness run amuck, he has been all but pushed out of our society, so now we are seeing and living the consequences. Good innocent people will die and so will the bad ones, but God allows us to turn to him to lead us out of the dark times. There is no guarantee no matter who you are christain or otherwise you will be spared from bad things. ok, point is: if this country doesnt get back on track morally and start turning to God and soon! things are going to get far worse,,,besides it pretty well spelled out in the book of Revalations,,,dont take it from me im just a poster in here :)

As for the issue of God’s goodness. We tend to want more than anything to have our own free wills. Many of you say that if God exists He is evil because having the power to stop such things did not. Lets suppose He did. God stops all acts of evil. Who defines evil? You? Me? The shooter? Lets say God does. Here you want Him to stop evil acts, to prevent such tragedy. That means He stops you at some point from doing certain things that you want to do such as gaining from other people’s losses, cheating on or at anything, lying, etc… In other words, He takes away your free will and the free will of everyone who exists. You are now noting more than a robot doing only what God says is right. If this were a forthcoming fact you would then call that removal of your free will evil as well. Here is the end of the matter then; you cannot have it both ways. You either have a free will along with everyone else and choose the evil that is “good for you” which we call moral relativism, or you surrender your will to One who gives the perfect standard. God is indeed a loving God. When we come to Him through faith in Jesus Christ it is by an act of love initiated by the Father, completed by the Son, empowered by the Holy Spirit and acted on by our will.

The death of a six year old is troubling – disturbing even. Tragedy is going to happen and that is an unfortunate fact. That is the price that we pay for our much vaunted free wills. When this man carried our his plan, he was acting on his own free will’s desire and according to his own moral code, his own ethical standards. To him, it was the right thing to do. You hear people say this frequently, “Thats great if it works for you. Whats right for you is not right for me” and there is the door to the miseries of societies. Innocent life was taken and the most cited example by those angry at God and seeking to prove His nonexistence or capriciousness is the six year old. Intuitively all of us know that the younger the life the more innocent and less deserving of imposed death or murder that life is. Thus the exclamations of injustice allowed at the young one’s death. You are justified in your anger. Taking young innocent life is evil and has the appearance of increasing wickedness as the murdered decreases in age and we welcome your voices in calling it what it is.

This is the type of horror that happens when mankind and womankind decide not to take heed and listen to God and their inner self. If everyone wants to live their lives their own way, then that is your free choice to do. It is a gift from God. Yes, you can say for some it is a gift and for others it is a death sentence. But it isn‘t God’s doing. You are born, you learn right from wrong (remember the Tree of good and evil) and you grow and live out your life according to how well you learned. When a person stops listening for God’s voice, then evil can overcome good. This senseless shooting and murder of others is a person who stopped listening and stopped learning. Could be some deep rooted personal issues never resolved. It doesn’t stop the hurt or the horrow and loss of loved ones. Pray to God for their souls and their happiness with Him. I send my sympathy to all involved and my prayer that
humankind will continue to turn their thoughts to God and together perhaps we can bring peace on earth.

Sounds like people do not know nor understand God. There will always be death and there will always be those who live. I know for a fact; why I have been here for the last 5 years still is a wonder and a question at the same time. But for a fact I do know the peace I had in my time of need and each time I did die but was brought back to the world of the living. Events in each and everyone’s live teaches us only what we are willing to listen for; be it Good or Evil. We can learn to hate or how to Love and it has nothing to do with living or dying but in what we have become that makes us who and what we are.

God wanted man to have free will yet willingly give up said will to Him that unfortunatly consequences will happen due to having free will. Even the angels weren’t allowed to have this gift. God’s given man a choice. This ******* chose his. No one can understand why God gave us free will to make choices. Praise God that this lady had been touched at birth to survive such a situation like this and mentally be unscathed. Hope her witness will help others realize Who’s really in control and be a help to others. As for the idiots who believe otherwise, that is your free will’s choice to do so. ‘Nough said. :)

      Oh?

I’ve noticed some of your other posts on this story… they all seem to focus on God.

Are you upset with Christians on the Blaze, or are you upset with God Himself?
We Christians can be upsetting people at times, because we’re terribly sinful just as all people on earth.
Christians here on the Blaze will not bring you happiness.

But if your argument is with God, then you need to tell Him. Argue with Him, wrestle with Him. Tell a pastor you trust your complaints about what God has done wrong to you.
There are things to do, to settle your dispute with God.

But Christians on the Blaze are sinful, we say/think/do sinful things, and we will not be able to know God’s ways fully.
So we also look to God, and Ask, and Pray.

@ pounding Hammer- my frustration is with christians who act the way I used to act. I used to be angry at god because of what I saw in the world and what I read in the bible. I did pray anout it, wrestle with it and talked to pastors and priests about it. Then I went a step further and read about the history of the time. My conclusion- the god of the bible does not exist….and if he does, he is evil.

Perosnally, I do not know there is a god- but in the absence of proof, I will presume that their isnt. I cant be angry at something that I do not believe is there.

I probably post more often on these threads because I disagree with the other posters. In most blaze threads I agree with the posters so no need to post and provide a differing view.

I suppose there is nothing wrong with posting a comment to disagree with another poster, so I’d have no problem with you on that one.

And sorry to imply that you haven’t wrestled with this, I understand your explanation.

My comments on the Blaze won‘t be able to be able to go into the full scope of what I’d choose to say if we were in person, so I guess the only thing I’d comment is, I noticed you mentioned looking into more history and for evidence of a God, and found there to be none.
My response to that is that the essence of Christianity, is Faith. We don’t rely on the evidence or lack there of, just pure faith.

Now, I happen to personally disagree with you that there is no evidence now or in past history, but that’s a larger topic to handle.

But I understand and trust you that you have spent the time and honestly sought out answers. I see from your brief posts that appear to have been determined and put effort into your conclusion you are at now.

God did not cause this tragedy. He has a plan and a purpose for our lives. No one perishes unless He allows it. We cannot imagine why He allowed it, but He did not cause it. He has given us free choice and the shooter used that for evil. Even though people died, and that is tragic to those left behind, God will use this for good somehow and He will walk with those left behind. He will not leave them nor forsake them. And those who are with Him are happier than we can imagine. He is real. He is good. He cares. The young woman who was spared clearly has work to do here on Earth when she recovers. He will reveal to her what that is in His time.

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?
      As it is written:
      “For your sake we face death all day long;

No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. @Islandmama While I understand what you are trying to say and agree with the underlying concept you really should choose your words a bit more wisely. “No one perishes unless He allows it.” Come on seriously?? First of all that is not how it works at all and doesn’t really do anything other than the exact opposite of what you are intending. I pushes people away.
John 10:10 “The thief comes not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” There is an enemy in this world and he is the thief not god.
John 16:33 Jesus tells us “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” He’s saying to us that trouble is certainly coming (no one is exempt not even Christians), but that “in Him we may have peace because he has overcome the world”
Matthew 18:14 “Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish”
2 Peter 3:9 “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is long-suffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”

I you haven’t had a chance to see this yet I highly recommend you look up Louie Giglio and his hope message it really speaks to this current tragedy but also applies to anyone as no one on this earth is immune to tria

My biggest pet peeve is when people praise god and say he is great for saving one life when he let 12 others die. Why did God save this woman but let a 6 year old girl die??? In what Universe is letting a 6 year old die (when you have the ability to intervene and intervene for others) a perfect plan?

God has a great gig- he gets praise for happy events but for sad events he is teflon- no criticism can stick at all. You just cant have it both ways. I wish my job was like that. I wish I got praised for all successes (even if I had no part in them) and absolved of all failures.

I am very happy for this woman and wish her the best in life. But the fact is she is lucky to be living in 2012. If she had been born 100 years ago- God would not have had the technology to save her.

I understand your rationale.Maybe I can help here.God in his infinite wisdom does have a plan. Not that its necessarily clear cut or even wanted[at the time].Its hard to want something that will cause you grief pain and anger. However the reasons he chooses to let some live and others die is simple. They have finished their work. There last work is teaching the living how to accept dieing with grace and humility. Its about bringing the living closer and chosing to cherish the time you have with your family. Its about learning that death isn’t permanent. While the body [vessel]does die, the spirit doesn’t.
To your last statement. While I would agree that science increased her odds of survival drastically.
She still may have survived a hundred yrs ago although the odds would have been much slimer. There are people who survive without intervention and or have their own medical problems hopelessly complicated by the wrong medical intervention.Explain that other than faith and purpose.

‘two of Gods greatest gifts are free will and personal responsibility’

Let’s break that one down briefly.
Free will: God gives us free will so that we can use it to conform to a meticulously detailed standard of living (one that has a suspicious number of rules involving livestock), and if we do not, he will inflict an eternity of unfathomable torture upon us. Only North Koreans would consider this to be free will.

Personal responsibility: Is we spend our entire lives raping, murdering, lying, stealing, etc., all we need do is call out to jesus on our deathbed and receive the blessing of complete vicarious atonement. Off to heaven instead of the inferno. Very little responsibility involved there.

This might be redundant responding to those who are hurt and confused by the idea of trying to figure out God’s “perfect plan” when they see innocent children dying and very few saved by miraculous events. You try to explain God’s love and mercy and desires in light of evidence you see.

There are things you need to know regarding God’s word and his “perfect plan”.

-1 – All of us are sinners – and thereby unable to enter into God’s presence asking fo rmercy ect, UNLESS there was a perfect mediator – something/someone who payed for that sin who . ENTER the Christ. If you do not believe that Christ died and Rose again in your heart of hearts, how can you then go to God on your own merits? all have fallen short. Even a 6 year old Child is foolish and evil at times in his life…this might be hard to accept as we percieve kids as “innocent”.
2 – Free will: ANDYETITMOVES is claiming that you must conform to some old testament standard of living, yet that is not the reality today. The Law of moses does not apply today but is for example and learning only. The only commandment to live by is to “Love God with your heart soul mind and strength” and to “love your neighbor as yourself” -. All the Law does is reveal what sin is.
3 ANDYETITMOVES clearly stated how responsibility is lifted from a person who murdered, killed, raped, ect all his life – yet on his deathbed repented in his heart and actually believed Christ died for him. All sin is taken away. Fo

Lastly, the Devil is the ruler of this world, not God. God didn’t have some predestined plan to save some and let others die. The Devil has a plan steal kill and destroy, while God gave people an OUT through Christ. Free will and choices of those who do and do not serve God will “predetermine” what will happen. The goodness of God is all around you if you would see – hence why some people praise God for towing their car to their front house, versus praising God for saving a women’s life. Trying to reason that God chose some people to live and others to not makes no sense when God gave the OPPORTUNITY for EVERYONE to LIVE either in this life or the next, and gave them a CHOICE to believe NOW and call out to him. This lady who’ s life was saved miraculously seems to have a very strong support group through her Church with many people praying for her mother and family prior to this event. She has great need with God fearing people praying and calling out to God. They ALLOW God into their life, hence he saved her. I imagine she has a relationship with God through jesus Christ. Others Might call out to God when bullets are flying… yet they do not know/understand how to reach him — Only through Jesus Christ. (See my last post) It was them that rejected God in the first place, not God rejecting them. God is not going to overstep your free will, your choices, your desires, your mind to save you; yet you can CHOOSE to be saved by God THROUGH Jesus Christ, simply.

I have read quit a few of your posts. You said you read the Bible but evidently didn’t study it. Evil came into the world because mankind disobeyed God. Therefore, death came into the world. God made mankind with a free will to obey him or not. He did not make robots which he could have. We choose to do the things we do.
It sounds like you went to church but did not give your heart to God. It is not for me to judge because only you and God know whether you meant it or not. However, we are to be fruit examiners. You are asking God to give a sign. Matthew 4:7-“Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou salt not tempt the Lord thy God.”
In Romans 10: 8-11 “But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.”
Faith is defined in Hebrews 11- “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Archeology has proven many times events in the Bible is true. Even today Damascus is in the news. Events of today are in Revelations, Daniel, Ezekiel and some others. Do we understand all things? No because we do not know all things like God does

Tell that to the dead. Your God is capricious, reactionary, tribalistic, and apparently not up to speed on the latest developments in science, much like all of you blazers. That should tell you something about where your concept of god comes from.

      @ANDYET….

The dead have already met HIM face to face and are either with HIM in HEAVEN or separated from HIM forever in hell by their own choice. Seems to me from the way your spew your poisonous anger it would do you good to ask HIM, “GOD, are YOU real? Will YOU show YOURSELF to me, please?” If you are sincere and honest in this prayer, HE WILL. If YOU are the coward you appear to be and are playing with HIM, you are in deep tapioca darlin’. GOD KNOWS your heart. Do you?

It would have been insane to continue a belief under those conditions. “Believing” just because some other human being was telling me I should, with no credible evidence of support [and especially when extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence]??? THAT is foolish.

Are you people serious with this? What about the 12 innocents that baby jesus chose not to protect? Why did he tip the scales in this girl’s favor, but made sure all the other would never see their families again. Does anyone notice the double standard? This type of rhetoric is childish, imbecilic, and an insult to the memory of the dead.

I am mad. Twelve innocent people are dead. That makes me mad. Now you are telling me God had the power to save them (if he had the power to save this woman he could have saved them all) but he chose not to.

A 6 year old girl died and god turned his back on her. That should make everyone who believes mad.

How would you treat a doctor who saved one patient but let another die?

I am not mad at God because I doubt he is there. If he is there, he never intervenes. If he intervenes, but chooses who gets the intervention- then he is a jerk because 12 children died of starvation in the time it took me to type this post. What- they do not get manna from heaven?

It does bug me when people claim to be special in god’s eyes and benefit from his life saving mercy when a 6 year old doesnt qualify for said mercy. Its arrogant, egotistical and sophmoric.

We cannot know why God permists some to die and some to live. It is not our call to make. All we can really do is seculate about the reasons. It is tragic that people died in this way. I believe that we are all put here for a reason and we will be here until that reason has been fulfilled. I also believe that the things that are coming on the world some people here today would never make it through them with their souls and I believe God takes them home to save them from that. I, nor any other person can say with certainity why God does what He does, but I know that in the end we will all know the answers to it all and how it could not have been any other way. That is called living by faith and not by sight. I also know that we praise God in the good things and in the bad things. He is the author and finisher of our faith. Let go of the bitterness of what you expected and accept what will truly make you happy for only God knows your heart better than you do. Let go and Let God.

Life is a gift. But life was never meant to be all fun and games. In fact, life in general is quite tough. There are good times in life and there are bad times in life. The older we get the more we are given to chose how we want to live our own life, whether it’s through good decisions or bad ones. Even God allows us to decide. Yet, we curse at God when someone dies whether we believe in Him or not. And those who believe in him praise Him when someone survives an ordeal. But tell me, is it a selfish thing to get angry when someone is taken away from us? Or shouldn’t we be praising Him when an innocent person is taken early to be with Him instead of having to deal with living on this Earth? I know, It’s a tough thing to consider and think about. But if it is situations like these that causes someone to not want to believe in God, then selfishness will always rule their life.

And yet, look around you at all these people reaffirming their belief in god because this one girl survived. You have to notice the double standard at some point. Christians will take absolutely anything positive in life (especially if it helps them out personally) and attribute it to god’s goodness, but then they have the gall to turn around and call someone selfish for pointing out that god seems to let a whole lot of evil slip through the cracks. This is a mindless way to live.

You’re right, He does. In spite of this evil act, there was a LOT of good that came about from this. Lot’s of people helping people. From those shielding themselves to save another, to those trying to help others out of harms way, to the doctors and the police, and so on and so on. All that good from a tragedy, and you didn’t notice? So many fail to see God’s work. So many afraid to.

Death is a part of life. How we die does not change that. I just want to understand why it is the certainty of death that have you so angry at God and those who believe in Him. I’m just curious. Is it how these people died? Or is it the reactions of believers towards those who survived? Should we feel guilty for the survivors? I don’t understand the logic? But I am trying.

I’ll let ANDY speak for himself, but when I direct the same expression (“grow up”) to religious people here’s what I mean: Grow up!
“Grow up from what?”, you ask. From the infantile, superstitious delusion of your ‘faith’.
“And why do you say such a comment?”, you ask. Because it is utterly ridiculous — and more than a little dangerous to rest of us — to allow yourself to live with a mind, that is otherwise probably rational, switched off. It is childish, akin to the faith many of us once had in Santa, and the Easter Bunny, and the Tooth Fairy. Grow up already!

Now you’re getting it! That’s exactly what we are supposed to do is tell their families about the goodness of God and how He sacrificed His own son to save the world from sin. In times of trouble and dispair we are to turn to God not away from Him. We don‘t know that those twelve aren’t already rejoicing in God’s glory never to know trouble or sorrow ever again. Read some of the stories of the boyfriends who sheilded their girlfriends with their own bodies. There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends (John 15:13). We don’t know why some died and many more survived but we do know that many more survived. God tells us, that all things work together for good to those who love God and have been called according to his purpose (Romans 8:28).

Some people didn’t get get in serious places and other did. A psychotic person shot bullets at people and he hit some of them and killed them. To say that the Christian God gave this girl a defect to later save her lacks any evidence. I could just as logically presume that The flying Spaghetti Monster that lives in the Ocean saved her life

2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters,[a] whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. 4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. 6 But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. 7 That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. 8 Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.

I’ve noticed that most if not all atheists on this site always resort to name calling. Honestly, its like they get their jollies calling people names. I just read another article about the egyptian actor hitting people and at the end of the video some anti-semite woman makes anti-semitic remarks about Jews and the holocaust, I don’t call her names I just feel bad for them. Also, all you atheists commenting the more you continue to mock christianity the stronger christians become. Jesus said the truth will always be under attack and when you resort to poor name calling… well then I know I’m on the right track. Sad…. just sad. As for the article, I won‘t go out of my way to say it’s a miracle God may or may not have influenced but I generally identify miracles by events that defy all logic, reason, physics so on. Like my aunt who had emphysema and had no treatment from doctors and they said she was going to die soon and then on day, she is as good as new, better than before in fact. That is what a miracle would be this is still amazing but I would not go out of my way to call it a miracle.

because you can not prove a negative.

You have committed the fallacy of over generalization. Believers will differ on their opinion on what is ” Lord’s divine hand at work“ so the word ”always” is wrong. You do not know if it is delusional to believe it because you do not know what is the Lord’s work and what is not.

You missed the point. TrollMonger said “vague opinions about a fantasy god neither of you can prove exists.” Then he responded back saying that well you can not prove that he does not exist. This is a valid logical statement directly arguing against the idea that God is fantasy. The claim to truth was made by Trollmonger too. This is a claim that God does not exist. There is no way to prove or know that. But it is possible for God to prove He exists. So it is not illogical to say God exists because it is possible to know that.

Then you said but that is true with the tooth-fairy too. Why did someone ask for someone to prove the tooth-fairy exists? No. So there is no reason to point out that someone can not prove that the tooth-fairy does not exist? No claim of truth was made about the tooth-fairy. But Trollmonger made a claim that God did not exist by using the word fantasy. This is were the illogic began. Logic can be correct or incorrect regardless of knowing the validity of the premise. Trollmonger can not know if God does not exist. But you can know if God does exist.

“… it is not illogical to say God exists because it is possible to know that.”

      How? How is it possible?
Remember, we have agreed that it is impossible to prove (know) that God doest not exist. Presumably, if there is a way to prove (test) that God DOES exist, then this test could also be the means to demonstrate that God does NOT exist.
In other words, you are saying that anyone can know/verify that God exists by means of X. However, if the X test is conducted and God is not discovered/revealed/encountered … then God would be falsified. No?
Also, if this test exists then does it not obliterate the need for faith?

So by all means, explain the God test for me.
Perhaps you could also explain how I might have misunderstood what seems like a contradiction on your part.
