ALLEN PARK, Mich. (The Blaze/AP) — Protesters descended on a Lowe‘s store in one of the country’s largest Arab-American communities on Saturday, calling for a boycott after the home improvement chain pulled its ads from a reality television show about five Muslim families living in Michigan.

About 100 people gathered outside the store in Allen Park, a Detroit suburb adjacent to the city where “All-American Muslim” is filmed. Lowe’s said this week that the TLC show had become a “lightning rod” for complaints, following an email campaign by a conservative Christian group.

Protesters including Christian clergy and lawmakers called for unity and held signs that read “Boycott Bigotry” and chanted “God Bless America, shame on Lowe’s” during the rally, which was organized by a coalition of Christian, Muslim and civil rights groups.

Rep. Rashida Tlaib, a Detroit Democrat and the first Muslim woman elected to the Michigan Legislature, said it was “disgusting” for Lowe’s to stop supporting a show that reflects America – the conservatives, liberals and even “the Kim Kardashians” in the Muslim community, she said.

“We’re asking the company to change their mind,” said protester Ray Holman, a legislative liaison for a United Auto Workers local. He said he was dismayed that the retailer “pulled sponsorship of a positive program.”

A local rabbi extended his support to clergy at the protest and local Arab Americans, saying he and other Jews would have been at the protest had it not fallen during the Jewish Sabbath.

“I hope that they would likewise stand up and demonstrate should something outrageous like this take place against another religion,” Rabbi Jason Miller said in a statement.

Lowe‘s spokeswoman Karen Cobb said Saturday that the company respected the protestors’ opinion.

“We appreciate and respect everyone’s right to express their opinion peacefully,” she said.

The show premiered last month and chronicles the lives of families living in and around Dearborn, a suburb of Detroit at the heart of one of the largest Arab-American populations outside the Middle East.

Dearborn is home to the Islamic Center of America, one of the largest mosques in North America. Overall, the Detroit area has about 150,000 Muslims of many different ethnicities and is served by about 40 mosques.

It airs Sundays and ends its first season Jan. 8.

The Florida Family Association has said more than 60 companies it emailed, from Amazon to McDonalds, pulled their ads from the show, but Lowe’s is the only major company so far to confirm that it had done so. The group accused the show of being “propaganda that riskily hides the Islamic agenda’s clear and present danger to American liberties and traditional values.”

The travel planning site Kayak.com also pulled its ads, though its marketing chief said the decision was made because the company was dissatisfied by the show‘s quality and TLC wasn’t upfront with advertisers about how the show would be presented.

Saturday’s rally was met by about 20 counter-protesters including John White, who lives in nearby Livonia and called those protesting against Lowe’s “terribly misdirected.” He acknowledged that he hadn’t watched the show, saying he’d seen previews and read about it, but believed the company made a decision based on business, not bigotry.

“Americans are not suspicious…of baseball-playing, apple-pie eating Muslims,” he said. “It’s the ones you see on the news.”

The manager of the Lowe’s store, Doug Casey, said the company wasn’t influenced by any outside group or ideology. He said those who criticized Lowe’s have a right to their opinion, but that “it’s not the opinion of most of the customers I spoke to in the store today.”

“I‘m deeply sorry if it’s caused any divide in our community,” he said. “It was never our intention to offend or alienate anyone.”

The hubbub didn’t keep people from shopping at the store. Keith Rissman, who was buying finishing boards for windows he‘s installing in his mother’s garage, said he supported the company.

“It‘s a decision they’re allowed to make,” the 57-year-old said. “If [people] don’t want to shop here, they don’t have to.”

Karen Lundquist, 65, came to the store with her son even though she didn‘t support Lowe’s decision. “It just seems like they yielded to a Christian hate group,” she said.

      Where is the freedom to advertise on the programs you choose to advertise on??

      I saw one episode of this TLC’s Muslim show. One woman was trying to open a bar. Thought Muslims didn’t drink? She said in episode she already had her liquor license.

      Lowe’s made a business decision after ratings started to fall. How can they call Lowe’s anti-Muslim when Lowe’s originally agreed to be a sponser?

      I think these idiots are going to find out that Muslim oriented boycotts will create more business for Lowes and other stores that stand up to these tactics. Not only should you think of Lowes as top of mind to shop because of this, but also because they offer active duty and veteran discounts which show their respect for our military.

      As for me, I not only shop at Lowes, but I will purchasing some of their stock.

      The First Ammendment only applies to some of the folks and not all the folks. Lowes has First Ammendment Rights also! I wouldn‘t ever watch a dumb show like this unless they were enforceing Sharia law and stoning some little tenny bopper who ddn’t wear her burka or went out without a male family member as a chaparon on a date.

      With Home Depot already suffering because of the slouching housing market, Lowes is taking a hit too, why would they further exacerbate their financial situation? Additionally, Lowes products are so much more expensive than Home Depot…

      I already have decreased my visits to Home Depot and rather try to use smaller mom and pop hardware stores and other outlets to obtain my materials because of their founder’s stance on the Occupy Protestors, who’re protesting a financial sabotage that hurt Home Depot as well (Home Depot’s Founder has cognitive dissonance).

      Now I have a reason not to shop at Lowes. Bigots.

      Totally Agreed, every business has the right to advertise with whomever and wherever they want to. If the race card can be played though they will play it and try to use it to step on the rights of lowes to support what it wants. Well unless your white. If your anything but caucasion then you can play some kind of coward race card argument, but thats the liberals. A black conservative for example would think they had the right to advertise wherever they want. A black muslim or liberal would say that Lowes hates brown people. Its a stupid show. I will be stopping at lowes today and ill find a way to give them at least 50 dollars of my money. My loyalty and support lies with any all american orginization that supports our troops. This filthy protesting for everything now mess, is a tired, worn out, professional victim look at life, and I hope the lowes I visit has a group of them watches me go in and come out with bags.

      I love Lowes for standing up for American values……it is an All American Store! Women shot there too and the way Islam treats women should be all the more reason to stand against it.       Here’s a thought: Boycott TLC (The Learning Channel). Along with the tasteless cashing in on a dead baby, it’s the entity that thought a Muslim propaganda show should be taken seriously. TLC is the true villain in this case, and not just for the Muslim show. TLC is trash TV at its trashiest. It makes MTV look reputable (at times). I suppose if you like freakshows, TLC is a must have. Check out the TLC lineup and try to name one show that isn’t either a celebration of banality or a full on celebration of the weird and those who have nothing better to offer than being exhibitionists.

      Time to spend more money at Lowe’s. It’s no surprise that inhabitants of surrounding Dearbornistan are throwing a fit. This doesn’t surprise me as much as the Congresscritter who announced he was looking for any laws they might have violated so they could prosecute. WTH?? It is a private company’s decision whether or not they spend their advertising dollars on something. I am fed up with the Islamization of America. Let’s stop letting them bully us the way they have the UK and above ALL, where are these freedom from religion nuts now?? If they did a show on All American Christian, those nuts would be screaming about a private network streaming religious bias. UGH.

      @DRAGO…..If they protest down in Austin, they will probably have lots of liberals standing right there with them. Austin is a good example of whats wrong with America. It used to be a really nice city, before all the left-wing crazies moved in and ruined it. I grew up just Southeast of there, and I remember what the city used to be like. Nowadays, if you want to get really annoyed, just go stand out front of Book People on Lamar at 6th St. and see how many hippies with nutty causes accost you. I even remember the guy running for mayor a few years ago, that stood outside of the Waterloo campaigning for votes, while wearing a top hat and evening gown….scary stuff!!

      Let me see if I have this straight. This Florida Family group objects because (their words) “The show profiles only Muslims that appear to be ordinary folks while excluding many Islamic believers whose agenda poses a clear and present danger to liberties and traditional values that the majority of Americans cherish.” Their objection is that the show does not depict the one million American Muslims as terrorists, but instead as ordinary Americans? Do I have that right? They object not to the content of the show, but because the show doesn’t represent what they believe about Muslims? That’s a first.

      Actually, I take that back, it’s not. Their are precedents in history. At times in the United States and in other countries such as Germany certain groups, such as Jews or whomever, couldn’t be represented or spoken of in any positive way, in any way that didn’t conform with the prejudices of the time in a particular country. This isn’t anything new, just history repeating itself.

      A business can buy ad time anywhere that matches the business philosophy. Frankly I hope they are not intimidated by this rabble rousing bunch. In fact I to will spend more money at Lowe’s stores. I have found them to be respectful to all their customers. That should not mean that they have to advertise at a specific TV show.

Even a private business who has every right to advertise however and whenever they want to since they are the ones paying for it has the freedom to drop an advertisement for any reason they feel like.       Actually the right to protest doesn’t give them them right to do it on a private businesses property. So if they are harrassing customers as they leave the store they are breaking the law. There are no rights that allows a group to take away others rights. Like the rights to conduct a lawful business or the right to purchase products from the business of your chosing without discrimination. So the orginizers of the protest for attemp[ting to take away the rights of others.

      Paul’s an idiot and so are you. The people who shop at lowes have a right to shop whereever they want, WITHOUT BEING HARRASSED ABOUT IT. The management of Lowe’s have a right to advertize where ever they want. It seems that Paul as well as yourself would deny the CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT of those who don’t lock step with him. More over you would support protesters taking the rights of the individual and allow them to be discriminated against because of where they shop. To damage a lawful business by allowing protesters the unlawful right to accost it’s customers thus driving them away.

      For all the people saying that businesses have a right to advertise on whatever shows they choose, yes you are correct. They do.

      What is amusing to me is that when Beck lost all his advertisers not for what he didn’t say (as is the case here) but what he DID say, you were all singing a different tune. Incorrectly quoting the First Amendment, the consensus was that advertisors were suppressing Beck’s freedom of speech, and that this was a liberal plot, an outrage etc.

      I guess to the TP right and wrong depend on the person affected.

      I pray that Lowe’s pays absolutely no attention to these idiots. The odds are that NONE of them would ever go into a Lowe’s anyways so they do not lose anything. In fact, they are gaining because people that actually do things on their own and have need to buy things from a place like Lowe’s will start going in there and becoming new customers. I know that I will be buying pretty much everything that I need for repairs, etc. from Lowe’s. LOWE’S the people of America support you for not advertising on what is clearly propaganda. I do not care for any stereotype shows, especially ones that while some muslims may live like that the majority of people that claim to be “active” muslims cannot live like that and still be true to their religion since it does not show them trying to go out and kill all non-muslims as they are ORDERED to do by the koran.

    Only a complete and utter fool can fail to see the end of this. Just like in every single other place that Islam has spread, either you submit to Islam or you leave. So eventually Lowes, and other businesses who refuse to submit to Islam, will leave this area. The same thing will happen to bars, establishments selling pork, Christian churches, on and on. Eventually even America will become Balkanized with Muslim enclaves unsafe for infidels and their businesses. At some point fighting will be required if the infidels want to “reclaim” the areas Muslims have Islamized, there will be back and forth fighting extending over centuries, and the END of it all will an Islamic America with small sections of infidels fighting to retain their non-Islamic identity in their isolated sections, the dirty “bigots” that they are.

      It is called dhimmitude, and actually they did allow Jews as well, but only because they needed the Jews to run the government and other businesses since the Muslims were incapable of actually “doing” anything except as you say, taking their cut in the form of the Jizya tax.

      But they really aren’t anywhere near that point yet, in Europe and America they are still in the early stages of infiltration. Since they are weaker militarily they have to use demographic spread and gradual takeover of areas. Christians and Jews slowly move out as it becomes more and more intolerable leaving the area to the Muslims for their eventual exclusive use. In Europe there are already areas where filthy infidel women walking uncovered are raped by holy pious Muslims protecting their holy Islamic turf.

    Oh and meant to add as well, what their business sponsors! If a store doesn’t want to buy ad time because of the nature of a program, what’s wrong with pulling the ad? Sponsors do it ALL THE TIME! Cry bigotry, racism, whatever, and somehow it is so.

    I was at Lowes yesterday. I protested by purchasing almost $400 dollars of CHRISTMAS gifts I was going to buy elsewhere. Thanks Lowes for not giving in to all the hate…..from the other side!

    Gee, a whole hundred? The show is total brainwashing for dumb Americans who want to believe that Islam is really o.k. It is not. I hope Lowe‘s sticks to it’s guns.       Every day there’s another revelation of what Obama is doing to our country.

      Dhimmitude — I had never heard the word until now. Type it into Google and start reading. Pretty interesting. It’s on page 107 of the healthcare bill. I looked this up on Google and yep, it exists. It is a REAL word.

      An excellent book to read about DHIMMITUDE and the PEACEFUL(cultural) JIHAD is the book “BECAUSE THEY HATE” by Brigitte Gabriel. Her second bestselling book is titled “THEY MUST BE STOPPED”. Both are excellent. They are not heavy tomes.
