Protesters Get Violent in Serbia While Demanding War Criminal’s Release

BELGRADE, Serbia (AP) — Protesters throwing stones and bottles clashed with baton-wielding riot police Sunday in Belgrade after several thousand Serbian nationalist supporters of jailed war-crimes suspect Ratko Mladic rallied outside the parliament building to demand his release.

By the time the crowds broke up by late evening, about 100 people were arrested and 16 minor injuries were reported. That amounted to a victory for the pro-Western government, which arrested Mladic on Thursday, risking the wrath of the nationalist old guard in a country with a history of much larger and more virulent protests.

Rioters overturned garbage containers, broke traffic lights and set off firecrackers as they rampaged through downtown. Cordons of riot police blocked their advances, and skirmishes took place in several locations in the center of the capital.

Doctors said six police officers were among the 16 people brought to a hospital with minor injuries. Police remained on the streets as the crowds broke up.

The clashes began after a rally that drew at least 7,000 demonstrators, many singing nationalist songs and carrying banners honoring Mladic, the former Bosnian Serb military commander. Some chanted right-wing slogans and a few gave Nazi salutes.

Supporters of the extreme nationalist Serbian Radical Party were bused in to attend the rally. Right-wing extremists and hooligan groups also urged followers to appear in large numbers, creating the biggest test of Serbian sentiment and the government‘s resolve since Mladic’s arrest.

The demonstrators, who consider Mladic a hero, said Serbia should not hand him over to the U.N. war crimes court in The Hague, Netherlands.

“Cooperation with The Hague tribunal represents treason,” Radical Party official Lidija Vukicevic told the crowd. “This is a protest against the shameful arrest of the Serbian hero.”

Demonstrators demanded the ouster of Serbian President Boris Tadic, who ordered Mladic’s arrest. A sign on the stage read, “Tadic is not Serbia.”

More than 3,000 riot police were deployed around government buildings and Western embassies, fearing that the demonstration could turn violent. Riot police tried to block small groups of extremists from reaching the rally.

Nationalists are furious that the Serbian government apprehended Mladic after nearly 16 years on the run. The 69-year-old former general was caught at a relative’s home in a northern Serbian village.

The U.N. tribunal charged Mladic with genocide in 1995, accusing him of orchestrating the massacre of 8,000 Muslim men and boys in Srebrenica and other war crimes of Bosnia’s 1992-95 war. Mladic‘s arrest is considered critical to Serbia’s efforts to join the European Union, and to reconciliation in the region after a series of ethnic wars of the 1990s.

Mladic’s son, Darko Mladic, said Sunday that despite the indictment, his father insists he was not responsible for the mass executions committed by his troops after they overran the eastern Bosnian enclave of Srebrenica in July 1995.

“Whatever was done behind his back, he has nothing to do with that,” Darko Mladic said.

The massacre in Srebrenica is considered to be Europe’s worst atrocity since World War II. Bosnian Serb troops under Mladic’s command rounded up boys and men and executed them over several days, burying the remains in mass graves in the area. Prosecutors say they have compelling evidence that Mladic personally ordered and oversaw the executions in and around Srebrenica.

But Serb nationalists in Serbia and parts of Bosnia still consider Mladic a hero – the general who against all odds tried to defend Serbs in the Bosnian conflict. Among his men, Mladic commanded fierce devotion – many Bosnian Serb soldiers pledged to follow him to the death.

Some 3,000 supporters arrived Sunday by bus from other parts of Bosnia to a rally at Kalinovik, the area where Mladic grew up. Many wore black T-shirts with Mladic’s picture and the words “Serbia in my heart.”

The crowd called Tadic a “betrayer” for ordering the arrest of “the Serb hero” and urged him to “kill himself.” Many said they would fight under Mladic again.

Many of the Kalinovik protesters headed afterward to the shack Mladic was born in at the end of a steep, muddy road in the village of Bozanici, turning the shabby house into a pilgrimage site. Mladic’s aunt and cousins spoke to them, telling stories about Mladic’s childhood.

Mladic’s family and lawyers have been fighting his extradition, arguing that the former general is too ill to face charges. The family plans to appeal the extradition on Monday and to demand an independent medical checkup – moves described by the authorities as a delaying tactics.

“He’s a man who has not taken care of his health for a while, but not to the point that he cannot stand trial,” Serbia’s deputy war crimes prosecutor Bruno Vekaric told The Associated Press. “According to doctors, he doesn’t need hospitalization.”

Mladic has suffered at least two, and possibly three, strokes, the latest in 2008, his son said. The suspect’s right arm is only semi-functional, and his family says he is not lucid – but Vekaric said that assessment was not true.

Lawyer Milos Saljic says that Mladic above all keeps demanding that he be allowed to visit the grave of his daughter, who committed suicide in 1994.

“He says if he can’t go there, he wants his daughter’s coffin brought in here,” the lawyer added. “His condition is alarming.”

Saljic said the family does not believe that Mladic would receive proper medical attention in The Hague. He noted that several high-profile Serbs had died there, including former President Slobodan Milosevic, who suffered a heart attack.

Dusan Stojanovic and Danica Kirka contributed.

Let’s do that to everyone accused without a trial shall we? You sound as bad as what Mladic is accused of. What do you say we accuse you of some crime and just put you to death. (not serious)
Mladic is a warrior hero who fought to stop the turban heads. He atliest deserves a trial. But NOT at the Hague.

Like a lot of other Americans at the time, I was only able to watch the whole nasty war unfold on the boobtube. I was sickened by how Bill Clinton played his sh*tty game with NATO bombing the wrong side. There were accusations made by the Serbs that the muslems dug up grave yards and moved the bodies to mass graves to make it look like the Serbs did mass killings. Never investigated. Dismissed by NATO. The west has had an islamic turban pulled over their eyes. The disgusting thing about it is that western authorities have no desire to uncover the truth about it. I have never NEVER sided with anyone accused of war crimes. It’s wise to withhold judgement. In this case we all saw it, piped straight into our livingrooms. Anyone who saw it, who had half a brain in their head should have had a question in their mind as to why we were bombing the defenders. All of you with the “hang-em high” mentality need to take a look at the facts of this conflict.

I’m praying the Serb people will raise up against the world and say….

“You can try him over our dead bodies!”

What would Americans do if the world court came after Bush or Obama? Can’t blame the Serbs for protecting their leaders.

And if he does go to court, I pray the evidence will show the Serbs were only acting in self defense against murdering muslim invaders! It makes me sick to my stomach the United States took the side of primitive, savage muslim terrorists and nearly committed genocide against the White Christians acting in self defense to save their women, children, culture, nation.

Tadic is a traitor to all Serbians. He’s kowtowing to the E.U; the new Soviet Gulag.

The Serbians have never had a chance to tell their side of the story.

Their only crimes is that they dared to fight back against the marauding Islamists.

Mladic was a hero. He defended Serbia against the Islamist marauders who massacred thousands of Serbs. The only crime the Serbs committed was fighting back!
    Watch this:
    https://sites.google.com/site/jillstarrsite/bosnian-muslim-warcrimes—sarajevo-english-subtitles
    And read this:
“…[In Srebrenica] beheadings of Serbian civilians were commonplace, and in some villages the mujahedeen would dynamite homes with the inhabitants trapped inside.

No attempt was made to hide such atrocities. In fact, Gen. Oric would oft…en address the media at the site of the massacres. On one such occasion, while standing in front of mujahedeen displaying decapitated human heads as trophies, Gen. Oric pointed to a smouldering building in ruins and proudly announced to reporters, “We blew those Serbs to the moon.”

Alija Izetbegovic was also proud to display the fighting prowess of his mujahedeen volunteers. Following a successful attack against Serbian positions around Vozuce on Sept. 10, 1995, the Bosnian president held a televised medal presentation. Mujahedeen warriors had served as the vanguard of the assault force, and were awarded 11 decorations for valour, including the Golden Crescent, Bosnia’s highest honour.

According to Miroslav Lazanski, author of the new book, Osama bin Laden Against America, al-Qaeda members still maintain two bases in Bosnia, one of them reserved for top fighters.

If we do (which I can see obama doing) Bush and Rice and others WILL be brought forward. After speaking to my representative about this concern I also realized that not only bush and rice, but you can bet that the tides will turn and the “world”will demand “justice” and SEAL TEAM 6 will be summoned there too. These are very dangerous times and the US must not give up her own sovereignty.

      3. Ratko Mladic is a coward. If he believes that he is innocent of genocide and not responsible, then he should have turned himself in eager to defend his truth rather than run and hide like… well, like a war criminal.

The Yugoslav war always bothers me because people ask why it took the United States so long to get involved. It’s the perfect example of the United States playing world cop! The Europeans should have become involved long before the war got so incredibly out of hand, but for political reasons, passivity, or moral beliefs, they refused. There are those who even call us racist for not going in sooner. The truth is the Europeans acted like little babies, afraid to handle a problem in their own back yard, passing the buck to an ineffectual, under manned UN peace keeping force. If we hadn’t eventually gone in, no longer being able to handle the massacre of Muslims, the war might still be going on. In this case, the Christians were the bad guys, and we stoppped them, proving we’re not anti-muslim, we’re not racists, and the “Muslim World” owes us a debt of gratitude. People always say…”Why are we the world’s policemen?” It‘s because we’re the only ones with the balls to see a problem and go fix it. It’s hard not to when thousands of people are being slaughtered. Mladic isn’t a hero, he’s a mass murderer. He’ll be given a fair trial in The Hague and then be executed if found guilty. I guess in a civilized world that‘s the way it’s done.

Let’s see if I can simplify this.
The Yugoslav Federation was 1) Serbs(Orthodox), 2) Croats(Catholics) and 3) Bosnians(Muslims). About 1990 they worked together and tossed out their commie rulers.
Then the Bosnians and Croats decided not to play with the Serbs anymore.
Then the Serbs and Croats decided to carve up Bosnia.
Ratko was a Serb general (formerly a commie general).
He did what generals do – kill enemies and take ground.
    Then the U.S. recognized Bosnia(-Herzegovina).
This somehow made Ratko a genocidal maniac – for killing enemies and taking ground.
So – Why not just recognize him as a Balkan Hero and defuze the crap that’s coming.
He just did what generals do there.

I also have mixed feelings about this. It was a war in which we took the side of the muslims — I believe under Clinton. I think this is also the war in which Michael New refused to wear the “blue” uniform of the UN. See his book (free download). He is the first (and only one) to question the constitutionality of an illegal act by the President. http://www.mikenew.com/freebook.html Home page: http://www.mikenew.com/index.html#

“On October 10, 1995, ….the U.S. Army came to attention at 0900 in Schweinfurt, Germany. All but one of the 550 soldiers were wearing a sky-blue baseball-style cap with a United Nations insignia on the front. One was wearing the olive-drab flat cap that is authorized to be worn with the Battle Dress Uniform…Michael New – Mercenary… or American Soldier

Having had my eyes opened so much by the Obama admin. I am left wondering what exactly is the truth about this war. Many christians were brutally murdered, yet Muslims were/are considered the ‘victims’ of ‘ethnic cleansing. Came across the following web info: http://www.fortliberty.org/us-and-eu-push-bosnia-towards-civil-war.html

US & the EU are pushing Bosnia towards civil war….For over 200 yrs the US has acted as a beacon, spreading the light of democracy and dispelling the darkness of totalitarianism. And yet, … we are supporting the same type of authoritarianism that our forefathers fought and died to destroy. This is a national shame.

      Does anyone know the truth

I disagree with much of this “war crimes” crap. War IS a crime, like it or not, but necessary for survival of either one side or the other. Like General Patton once said, war is only organized stealing. He also was reported to have said: “Yes they are bastards, but they are our bastards.”

DonaldH: I hate to even say this but the truth of the matter is that I’m beginning to doubt that our people have the courage and intellect to overcome the bombardment of Jewish propaganda which seeks our demise. There’s just so much confusion and misinformation out there.. Not only is overcoming the Media propaganda an obstacle but now the youth are being targeted from preschool up and boy is it some powerful stuff.

One of the few things that gives me hope is when I consider the German Nationalist movement that almost secured a free and prosperous Europe began with only 8 people in a beer hall even after the country had already been decimated so it’s never too late.. However, they didn‘t have to deal with the powerful propaganda which we are up against today and they were really bascially one people whereas we’re a multicult now.

hrandym: If you are a Patton fan you should read what he was writing in his diary the weeks before his death.. I believe Patton finally saw the light and realized that we had decimated the best hope for Europe and released a Red monster. Regardless he didn’t live very long to tell about it after his conversion. Read the comments he began to make about the Jews.. I wonder how many on the Blaze would lose respect for him after considering what he had to say about the Jews?

I don’t like the idea of the Hague at all the one world court. However, I am glad they caught this guy and they should put him to death so God can take care of him face to face.

I‘m from former Yugoslavia and I’ll tell you this. The people don’t like the EU! The people don’t like the US! The dislike for the US is not because the US is the most free country in the world. Its because the US played a huge role in splitting up Yugoslavia. WHY is the question?

The US required Serbia to sign an agreement for the embargo to be lifted. In this agreement, Serbia has nor right to sue the US for any war crimes in the past or that might take place in the future. Now why would you say anything about future crimes against Serbia?

Blaze Busy Deleting Posts Again before just like the mainstream media they don’t want you to know the truth.

The truth of the matter is that Serbs were being massacred by prmiitive, savage muslim invaders and they defended themselves. The real war criminals were the muslims. The Serbs were White that were defending their women, children from slaughter, but because they are White and they were fighting against muslim underdogs, NATO and the United Fascist States of America started their own genocide against the White Serbs.

This was really an easy war to take sides because one was White and Christian and Civilizied and the other was brutal, savage, primitive and muslim.

      FREE SERBIA!
      FREE RATKO!!

PS – Maybe the blaze deleted by post because I made people aware that Whites are now only 8 percent of the world population and declining rapidily. Sadly, there are so many ignorant dolts that think Whites are a majority in the world and nowhere near on the verge of extinction.

The Big Pickle: I’m glad someone else realizes this… I love to see the people of Serbia stand up for one of their Nation’s leaders despite the fact that it may have economic reprecussions from the JWO.
Once again this was/is a Civil War going back Centuries!!! And again I recall how our filthy Media was going on and on over Mass graves containing 8 people.. anything to justify our bombings of Serbia.

Anyway this is UNITY not freaking DIVERSITY! Love of Country. .Nationalism. I love unity and I despise diversity for it is an evil invention of you know who. Our nation has been destroyed by these Internationalists and we sit around wondering how if we could only get a Republican in office things would be better… What a joke!

I can‘t believe we’re only 8% of the world’s population?? Where did that figure come from? Regardless I do know that we are a Minority and that we need a White unity movement in order to protect our race and preserve our heritage.

I have to give the Blaze two thumbs up today.. There are many opinions being discussed on here today that simply do not jive with the traditional Media’s view point and they way they want Americans to feel about the Serbian General.. Without the Blaze they’d never see the light of day.

This was what the 1st amendment was provided for and it is why America is in such dire situation now.. No one has had a real voice in our Gov’t for the past 100 years with the Media domination through their effective propaganda means..

Give‘s me a glimmer of hope to consider that outlets such as the Blaze and youtube eventhough there’s a lot of censorship on utube are providing alternate means of communication and info sharing…

THEBIGPICKLE I can see from this post and the posts you made yesterday, whilst defending the constitutional rights of American citizens, that you are a true humanitarian. The majority of posters on the Blaze can not reach far beyond their logic of Sarah Palin being sweetly pretty or spouting their biased view of ‘Amurrica’.That is why you will see so few of them on this thread.
To throw in my pennies worth.I believe the UN peace keeping force should have been brought strongly to task over the many allegations of rape and other atrocities forced upon the Serbian people in the aftermath of the war.

@THE BIG PICKLE – I’ve had several of my post mysteriously disapear or get lost in the system (aka deleted) .. so join the club. There is corruption and manipulations in everything.. even by the people who claim to be the ones truly standing up for your right of speech.

I remember well how our justification for going to war were the “mass graves” they had aireal photos of. They were said to hold 100,000 each. After the war, there they didn’t find any. If only the Serbs had just let the Muslims continue to slaughter their citizens, everything would have been OK.

      Clinton lied, people died…
