‘Pure Terror’: College Instructor Allegedly Required Students to Masturbate, Reveal Sex Fantasies in Order to Pass

Western Nevada College Instructor Tom Kubistant Allegedly Required Students to Masturbate, Reveal Sex Fantasies to Pass Karen Royce

A college instructor at Western Nevada College is accused of requiring students to masturbate and publicly reveal personal sex-fantasies in order to pass a “human sexuality” class, according to a federal complaint filed in U.S. District Court last month.

Tom Kubistant, the instructor, allegedly forced freshman and late-high school students to “openly discuss their orgasms” and masturbate, according to the federal complaint, filed by former Western Nevada College student and aspiring social worker Karen Royce, 60.

Kubistant “locked the classroom door” and played a “90-minute movie… depicting females engaging in sex and having an orgasm,” Royce’s complaint says.

He also allegedly told the class, which included high school students taking the class for college credit, he would “increase their sexual urges to such a height that they won’t be able to think about anything other than sex.”

Kubistant “announced to the entire class they must masturbate if they intended to pass the class,” according to the complaint. This was after Royce voiced her objection to the assignment, which she says made him “agitated.”

The complaint also reveals Kubistant assigned a final term paper entitled “A Sexual Case Study… You!“ Though the term paper was considered ”confidential,” it was to be turned in to Kubistant and never returned to students. The assignment required students to explain how they lost their virginity, any sexual abuse they had previously experienced, what gets them sexually aroused, their masturbation habits and their promiscuity behaviors, among other things.

Failure to leave out any of the previously mentioned topics would result in Kubistant deducting points from their grade, Royce alleges.

Royce, a victim of past sexual abuse, said she “felt pure terror” when she received the assignment.

She states she brought her concerns directly to Kubistant who refused to dismiss her from writing the paper. According to Royce, he said the project would “be cathartic” and she would need to complete it.

Royce then contacted the school’s legal department who told her that Kubistant had the “upmost freedom in teaching and in ‘research.’”

The school’s legal department also pointed to a waiver she had signed at the beginning of the class that outlined the class may contain “language” that would make students feel uncomfortable.

The waiver may have warned students about the potential for offensive language but it makes no reference to a masturbation requirement or mentions students would be required to reveal personal sexual thoughts and detail their sexual abuse to pass the class.

Royce previously spoke out about her experiences in the class in an interview with KRNV:

Royce filed the federal complaint against both Kubistant and Western Nevada College on June 25, 2012. She claims the class assignments were intrusive and translate into sexual harassment.

“Not only was she shocked by the assignments [and] the personal inquiries, but she herself had been a victim of sexual abuse. One of his requests was that people put in writing if they’d had sexual-abuse experiences,” Royce’s attorney, Ken McKenna told ABCNews.com. “How the authorities for this college could allow this man to conduct his class in this fashion and in effect say that‘s OK with us is so outrageous it’s beyond belief.”

He continued, “I think he needs to be terminated. He has crossed so many ethical, legal and moral boundaries… My mind immediately went to the question is he grooming these young 17-, 18-, 19-year-olds so he can have further contact with them outside the school environment? His behavior borders on perversion.”

Surprisingly, Western Nevada College has since defended Kubistant after an investigator reviewed the course syllabus and interviewed students and found “no evidence” of sexual harassment.

“The investigator found no evidence to support the student’s complaint of sexual harassment,” school spokeswoman Anne Hansen said in a statement. “In fact, the investigator found that the instructor was considered to be an excellent and caring professor, who, with the exception of that one student, appeared to be universally admired by other students who had taken the course.”

Kubistant did not respond The Blaze’s request for comment in time for this report.

      Do college students need a course in human sexuality?? Really parents, do you want to pay for that course? I’m sure by college age the students of today are more than up on all things sexual. This is in the Communist Manifesto – get them so hooked on sex and drugs that they could care less what happens in America. These bums should be thrown out on their a**. Time to clean house at all our colleges and universities. Make sure the courses actually benefit intellectual pursuits and not PC crap taught by America hating professors and Marxists.

      Reading the headline, I decided that instructor must be a pervert. When I saw his photo, I didn’t even have to read the details, I knew he IS a pervert. You can spot that look. But really, who in their right mind would tell students to masturbate if they wanted to pass the course? And some of the kids were high school kids.

      Went back and read it: that man is one sick puppy who probably masturbates to the kids papers they had to turn in. I’m shocked that he got off scott free. What a hell of a school to approve of this agenda? Parents, I‘m surprised you’d allow this.

    All those liberals that just could not stand to have the 10 commandments anywhere in a public building, and want to remove the Pledge of Allegiance from the class rooms, love their sex education, and when turned over to pervert, it just makes it that much better.

    To assume that just because the school refuses to put an end to this nut’s tenure, doesn’t mean much. Penn state is just about be buried under their law suits for failure to protect students from their perverts.
    These things take far to long to get resolved, because liberals refuse to be held accountable for their failures. JMO.

    It sounds like this so-called Professor was getting off on hearing about other people’s sexual fantasies, which are none of his business.

    What he is doing is shamelessly invading the privacy of his students lives, and taking advantage of their relying on him for a passing grade to do so. It‘s apparent that he doesn’t understand boundaries at all, probably because he never had any.

    Teaching human sexuality doesn‘t give anyone the right to disrespect a student’s privacy, and intrude into their personal space.

      That’s what it sounds like to me too. This “professor” is getting off on the material he’s asking his students to submit to him. It’s only a matter of time before he starts acting on his fantasies, repressed sexual urges are difficult to contain for too long especially when he’s been enabled in such a way over his students within the power and cloister of being their teacher.
      It’s similar to the catholic priest situation…he holds sway over minds, young minds that look up to him and respect his “wisdom” and position and he exploits that.

I would only add that it seems he focused in a lot on his student’s sexual abuses which makes me wonder if he is not an offender himself trying to get jollies that way or getting ideas on other ways to offend.     “Alleged” and “claims” are not words of proof. I find it hard to believe that in a class full of children only 1 would be unhappy with such a class. If true, this professor should be fired, disciplined, and lose any retirement he has. If untrue, this student should be disciplined.

      The difference is that, if you read the whole article, the woman in question is a 60 year old lady. She obviously is not accustomed to being subject to perversion and personal humiliation, because she hasn’t been in the public school system in the last 40+ years. The other college students have been conditioned since middle school to think this is not only OK, but “educational.”

      Admittedly, I missed the 60 year old lady portion. That still does not mean the accusation could be less than true … look at Fox-Piven? Sweet little old non-lying lady???

      I don’t buy that ALL other college students have been conditioned to accept this … some will, some will not. I know many around here simply would not.

    My future wife (at the time) and myself experienced the same thing years ago in an “anthropology of Medicine” course. The instructor made the whole course about sex and asked my lady to do a “special” term paper similar to that. I went and had a talk with him and threatened to file harassment charges and he dropped it. My lady wasn’t happy with me about it but……she knew I was a caveman when she met me!

    Just as when there is a fight video and most of you think it is a back person before watching it, i have $100 saying this person is white. Whenever i read a story about some weird sexual act’s or perversion i know 90% of the time it is a white guy. Hell, look at Penn State and the Catholic Priests. So you can stereotype blacks wiht fighting, that is fine by me, but just know that white men are stereotyped as child rapists and pedophiles.

      Not true. There is a lot of pedophilia and abuse in the black community…..percentage wise..just as much or more as in the white community. I was a cop when I was young and I know what I investigated. The black community does not report it or their perverts don’t make the news as much. No one cares about a story about pervs in the black community because they want people to think the black community is just some bunch of religious, down to earth, people. It is not good news.

      Not much argument about the child molester points. It does seem to be that the majority are white or hispanic, at least the ones who are caught. Sexual crimes don’t seem to become a mixed race issue until you start talking about violent brutal rape and murder of teens and adult women. So, what’s your point? Are you honestly saying that sexual crimes are a whites only problem?

      What activity did they condone? This is exactly what was stated:

      “The investigator found no evidence to support the student’s complaint of sexual harassment,” school spokeswoman Anne Hansen said in a statement. “In fact, the investigator found that the instructor was considered to be an excellent and caring professor, who, with the exception of that one student, appeared to be universally admired by other students who had taken the course.”

      We should be careful to not condemn until the facts are all in. This student’s claims are not proof. Now, they may be at which time actions need to be taken, but until they are, we certainly don‘t want to destroy a teacher’s life whom may not be guilty. It wouldn’t be the first time that a student did this to a teacher.

      JHRUSKY is likely correct in being prudent. I would feel like an equine backside if it turns out it is a disgruntled student looking for revenge. The Blaze has in the past left out details that has made me angry and I jumped to conclusions (like the pastor arrested for holding “bible study” in his house in Arizona and the other things he was doing like using loud speakers and having more than just 15 people).

      Although they claim to have found “no evidence of sexual harassment” they also did not state, according to this story, that the students claims of the courses requirements were untrue of misleading. So, one must ask, what do they consider sexual harassment? Would their idea of sexual harassment meet legal guidelines as per state law? If an employer had the same requiremenst for a position at his/her company as this professor has for a passing grade would they be sued?

      You guys accuse others of jumping to conclusions, yet aren’t you also jumping to the opposite conclusion. If someone sexually harassed your daughter and their employer claimed that what happened wasn’t sexual harassment in their view would you just let it slide?

      Nowhere in the story does the college say the claims are false. They just “seem” to contend that it isn’t sexual harassment.
