Purse Used to Attack Fla. Gunman Fetches Over $26,000 Total

The purse used to attack a Florida gunman who held a school board hostage has sold for $13,100 on e-bay, but fetched a total of $26,200 after the purse’s manufacture agreed to match the winning bid.

Ginger Littleton used the brown Brahmin handbag to hit Clay Duke as he held up the Bay County School Board members at gunpoint on December 14. The money will be donated to the toy charity of the security guard, Mike Jones, who eventually shot Duke.

From the Daily Mail:

The bag was bought by an anonymous user from Alexandra, Virginia, for $13,100 on eBay.

Its maker, based in Fairhaven, Massachusetts, said it will match the bid, meaning the charity stands to get a total of $26,200 from the sale. [...]

The bag was sold to raise money for a charity founded by Mr Jones which restores old bicycles and toys and gives them to needy children in Florida for Christmas.

Brahmin said it would match the bid to recognise Ms Littleton‘s ’tremendous courage in taking action to stand up for others while risking her own life’.

She told the Walton Sun: ‘That’s just amazing. I am thrilled to death that the purse will have another life and will do some good in the community.’

A man died – perhaps because he snapped. Sorry making this purse into a $26,000 “hero” just isn’t working for me.

Some humility on behalf of the BOE members would have been nice. They are, after all, very, very lucky to be alive.

I know the man was wrong, however, this whole after stuff is so tacky.

Saying the other people are cowards is stupid. The people saying that would probably be soiling themselves if it happened to them.. Easy to call other sissies when you’re safe at home.

Isn’t that purse part of the evidence in the commission of the crime?
The woman should be charged with reckless endangerment.
She could have caused the gun to go off killing someone.

Guess those that think stupid, are maybe stupid…
When confronted with an issue in as instant most people do not alway think as some of the stupid people do after the fact.. They did not have the time to make or take actions in the same length of time the ones that make stupid comments about what happened did..

Sad. It takes a purse to make someone a hero and to raise money for charity.

I’m glad that all the members of the school board meeting lived to see Christmas.
It’s unfortunate that the gunman needed to die because of his anger?mental issues?wife lost her job/financial problems? I keep thinking “what if it was one of mine that lost control”….

Would I be celebrating a purse, selling on the normally loathed Ebay, for $12,000 for charity. Would the bidders have donated the money without the publicity? If not, why?

I am so glad that this great, heroic lady is finally recognized as the real hero that she is. The persons who call her foolish are not my kind of people for sure. She did what real heroes do; she risked her life for her fellow man. That is what the Congressional Medal is awarded for. One need not be in the military to be a hero. Thank God and all our heroes. Without them we would not enjoy the great life that we do enjoy here in the USA !

She’s not a hero, she‘s just lucky he didn’t turn and shoot her. What would she have done if she succeeded in knocking the gun away? Keep hitting him with her purse? Now, auctioning the purse to raise money for charity is cool, but her actions during the incident were stupid.

I agree. Only problem is most CCW laws prohibit carrying in public/government buildings and on
school grounds. SC law does anyway. She could have smoked the bad guy and
      gone to prison for it.

I don’t think that the purse has any special meaning in itself. But the guy with the gun was not planning on killing anyone. Could he have killed them most definitely. I also think that he was mostly trying to make a point instead of hurting someone. But I have to agree that this lady was stupid for trying this stunt. Hopefully this won’t come back to haunt her later. We need to pray for all the people involved. But I am glad that the money is going to charity.
