‘Put An Obama Bumper Sticker On Your Forehead When You Do This!’: Fired-Up Romney Surrogate Calls Out CNN Host

Former New Hampshire governor and Romney campaign surrogate John Sununu (remember him?) on Tuesday got into a fierce debate with CNN’s Soledad O’Brien (remember her?) over the Romney/Ryan campaign’s approach to Medicare.
The debate began when Sununu tried to draw a distinction between Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s and Rep. Paul Ryan’s (R-WI) Medicare plans.
“I understand that this is a Republican talking point because I’ve heard it repeated over and over again,” said O’Brien. “And these numbers have been debunked, as you know, by the Congressional Budget Office.”
“No they haven’t,” Sununu responded
“Yes, they have.”
Actually, contrary to what email printouts from left-leaning blogs might say, they haven’t.
“I have the Congressional Budget Office Budget report right here,” Sununu said, revealing that he brought a copy of the report to the interview. “Go read page 13 and 14.”
“I can tell you what it says, yes,” O’Brien assured him. “It cuts a reduction in the expected rate of growth, which you know. Not cutting benefits to the elderly. Benefits will be improved. The focus is on hospitals. The focus is on health insurance.”
“He [Obama] gutted the program by $711 million!” Sununu responded. “And the fact is he reduces services to Medicare beneficiaries currently on the package. What the difference is [between the Romney and Obama plans], is that Romney says no impact to anybody 55 or over. It is clear in here that the reduction in services start on January 1, 2013 and Obama stole that money to put it into programs under Obamacare –”
“The hospitals agreed to that,” O’Brien interrupted. “The drug providers agreed to that because their theory is that what they’re going to be able to do is make up by the number of people who come into the system. It doesn’t reduce or cut the benefits. Right –”
Apparently, the former governor had had enough.
“Soledad, stop this!” he shouted. “All you’re doing is mimicking the stuff that comes out of the White House and gets repeated on the Democratic blog boards out there –”
“I’m telling you what FactCheck.com tells you,” she countered. “I’m telling you what the CBO tells you. I’m telling you what CNN’s independent analysis does.”
“Put an Obama bumper sticker on your forehead when you do this!” Sununu shot back.
“You know. Let me tell you something,” she continued. “There is independent analysis that details what this about and repeating a number –”
“No there isn’t,” he interjected.
“Yes there is,” she replied.
“No,” Sununu insisted. “There’s Democratic analysis.”

Posted on August 14, 2012 at 5:12pmWhat Sununu left out was to question this Dem talking head about why she was not nearly so interested in vetting the Obama plan when it was introduced. I didn’t see any real independent analysis by CNN then. As Pelosi said, “we will have to pass the bill to find what is in it (it seemed no matter the cost to the taxpayer).” CNN, no questions then? Just obeisant adoration and awe for the emperor with no clothes.
Also, Pelosi trotted out some fictitious CBO score of $940 Billion which has now turned out to be over $2 Trillion and probably closer to $4 trillion over the nexr 10 years. CNN did not ferociously analyze this fact nearly as much as they did Ryan‘s or Romney’s plan.
So, since O’Brien did not bring up any of these facts, I, as and independent viewer, would have to assume that O”Brien is trying to ba an advance shill for Obama’s raping of Medicare of over $700 Million, which the Republicans will highly capitalize upon (as did Sununu skillfully did) if they are smart.
This is clearly CNN,s effort to get out ahead of the curve of expected senior dissatisfaction for Obama’s trickery.

So as an independent viewer, you disregard the crux of the argument played out on television because of the preceived bias (whether accurate or not, you may very well be right that CNN didn’t devote enough time to dissecting the health plan under Obama). Doesn’t that seem to be a disservice to yourself? Shouldn‘t you be interested in who is telling the truth on this specific issue in addition to having an issue with CNN’s bias?

Posted on August 14, 2012 at 6:08pm@ Kitsy… There is no objective discussion in this piece, only talking points on both sides. The discussions should have been long before Obamacare was passed and it should have been presented to the public with complete transparency (as Obama promised many times).
And, yes I would like to see an honest independent breakdown of the short and long-term cost of Obama care and its coverages, lack of coverages, and its effects on seniors. None of this is, up to now, is completely known. We get clips and glimpses here and there and even then we get mostly emotional hype or complete condemnation from either side.
Romney‘s plan has to both satisfy independents and conservatives and is slightly different from Ryan’s plan, while Ryan’s plan is probably the most honest and best way to salvage health care. From my perspective, Obamacare is a fiscal and implemental train wreck waiting to happen.
That being said, you must know CNN is a shill for the democratic liberal progressives just as Sununu is a shill for the Republicans. The difference is, Sununu is not hiding his allegiance or agenda, while CNN is deceptively pretending to be a totally unassailable fact source in order to hide their real allegiances and agendas.
This is what progressives do to hide their true agendas from a a citizenry who would soundly renounce them if they truly knew what their actual schemes and outcomes were to be.

And second, when the hospitals and drug companies agree to fee reductions, it is a savings to both the Medicare program and the beneficiaries as Medicare providers are not able to bill Medicare beneficiaries for any amounts above the copay amount. A reduction in payments is just that. IT IS NOT A REDUCTION IN BENEFITS. To repeat the lie her and make it about the CNN host is rather sophomoric.

Perhaps if you’s find someone on Medicare and see what the government reimburses for services you might gain some insight rather than depending solely on money. Previous reductions in provider payments have resulted in less access to services. Further payment reductions will reduce medical procedures, have fewer doctors who will accept medicare recipients and cause longer time to receive medical procedures. I;m not sure what you consider a reduction of benefits but I consider changing access to a medical procedure from one week to four months or having to drive to another city because locally no doctors accept medicare.

It is MANDATORY that the States have a budget so we need to pass a law that it be MANDATORY that the Federal Gov’t have a budget and if they go over the budget then people get fired just like a business becuase they are a business, they don’t make anything but they sure take and take and take. There is plenty of money for everything we need, they all need to go to classes (mandatory) on an ongoing basis as to where money is being spent in every department and then maybe they can stop the waste and fraud. Every 2-3 months (may take longer some of our Senators and Congressman did not graduate the 6th grade (example: quote from a Democrat Congressman “If we put too much military equipment or troops on one side of the island it will tilt over and sink on one side”) then they move on to another Dept. and take it line by line (OH I thought this is what Obama was going to do with earmarks etc?) and really get to the bottom of where every dime is being spent. They will find out we have plenty of money and then some to feed everyone and probably even pay off everyone’s mortgage in this country! Can’t we start voting on a persons charactor and values and stop voting based on emotions!

And then you can talk about the Sequestering that is supposed to take place Jan 1st. Have you ever looked up the definition of sequester? I doubt it. He’s just not the orator when it comes to on-the-spot quetioning and answering. Ryan will bridge this gap.) Can’t argue FACTS. Posted on August 15, 2012 at 8:36amFirst of all, Obamacare strips over $715 Billion from Medicare, that’s over $70 Billion a year, not the $500 Billion your article states, which is also another Obama deception, like the cost of Obamacare was only going to be $940 Billion when in actuality it will soar to $2 – $4 Trillion over 10 years. Then Obama is going to hire 15 unelected bureaucrats to manage the slowing growth of Medicare. Therefore, most of the money stripped out of Medicare will go to Obama cronies to pay their’s and their employees salaries. Secondly, it was stated in the article repeatedly by Sununu that the Ryan plan was not going to be implemented, but, a modified version keeping Medicare as it is for those people over 55 without stripping out the $700 Billion dollars. The rest will be able to buy their own with a voucher plan. If someone wants a better plan than what the voucher pays for they will just have to come out of pocket just like Medicare patients do.
Yes the Ryan plan is a bitter pill to swallow, however, after decades of Medicare and healthcare demagougery on both sides of the aisle, its time for some uncomfortable medicine to fix this mess.
Yet, you might want to review another site and see what the Democratic co-chairman of the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform, Erskin Boyles, says about Paul Ryan and his fiscal plan for Medicare.
