‘Put Down Like the Dogs They Are!’: School Psychologist Under Fire for Racially Incendiary Tweets

In the wake of the Southern Poverty Law Center filing numerous complaints against the Jefferson Parish School System for, they allege, sending “a disproportionate number of black and disabled students to alternative schools to languish for months,” the school is under even heavier fire after it was discovered that a school psychologist posted a slew of racially incendiary comments on Twitter.
The man, identified as Mark Traina, says he likes “politics, the economy, reading and expressing [his] opinion,” in his Twitter description.
Fox 8 spoke to him over the phone, and he only said that the comments represent his personal opinions, not his work for the school.
Some of the worst comments include: “Young Black Thugs who don’t follow the law need to be put down not incarcerated. Put down like the Dogs they are!“ and ”We need to declare a war on Thugism in America. Bring them under control. Use the Hammer and Trigger Method!”
Another tweet ended: “The Real Terrorist live among us! Not over seas! Right here and now.”

According to a local paper, Traina both works in the alternative schools where students allegedly receive an inferior education, and he helps determine who is transferred to such schools.
In the midst of the publicity, Traina responded to the same paper: “Everything I said is fact-based, backed up by data. I don’t have a prejudiced bone in my body. I’m not a racist. I’m a realist.”
He elaborated: “This is just another way to harass the Jefferson Parish Public School System. One only needs to read the Times Picayune to see who the real trouble makers are. Sadly, it is disproportionately young black males. Everyone knows that our jails throughout the United States are disproportionately filled with black people. Why would the rate be any different in an educational environment?”
The school’s superintendent James Meza has announced that there will be an internal investigation into the matter, and the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights will be launching its own investigation, largely in response to the repeated complaints from the Southern Poverty Law Center.

That would not fly with me at all.
He is entitled to his thoughts/opinions…and I agree with them for the most part whether they are black or white, but I don’t believe someone with those opinions can really keep them out of sight and behind a brick wall in CERTAIN job fields.
This is liking giving an alcoholic a job in a liquor store.

He probably bought into all of the crap taught to us in school that if just given another chance, instead of discipline, and another chance, and yet another, and sprinkle some compassion and unconditional respect, rather than condeming the behavior (too judgmental), the kids would turn around. When he followed instructions to a T and that didn’t happen, he realized he wasted 8 years in school.
The problem isn’t due to skin color, it is due to culture.
The same culture that has made it fashionable for “white” boys to wear pants showing under ware, listen to singers referring to women as b*****es and glorifying killing cops; girls with butt cleavage and shorts that barely cover the subject, bumping and grinding it at prom. Where marriage isn’t “manly” enough, but making babies and then heading for planned parenthood is. It is the same culture that has made each college student without experience feel entitled to a high paying job, a new car at 16, an i-phone at 14 and $200 dollar sneakers all without ever having done anything to earn it.

3) He councils children and decides policy for handling their behavior.
4) Any school system should be able to fire employees for bad behavior.
I guess this guy is not in a union though, otherwise he’d have just gotten time off with pay.

I cannot defend anyone who says “look at the stats” as an argument for this kind of rant.
I look at individuals, not the group.
The reasons for jails being full of young black men are varied and well studied.
They are typically from broken homes, impoverished homes/areas, they use drugs (to escape their living hell), they listen to hate filled music, their leaders encourage a ‘victimhood’ mentality, etc.
You can’t fight hatred with hatred. We, as individuals, need to be better at loving these children, not reinforcing their idea that they are hated by threatening to kill them.
I understand that you may need to protect yourself from dangerous people, but don’t shoot first.
He should not be in a position of ‘helping’ the children when he hates the children.

I never said anything about “draconian” or punishments. So you can slip that back where you found it. There is definate coddling going on or we would not have blacks living off generational welfare as a form of reparation to their race. We all know the main problems are beginning in the home. Having a good loving family environment. All of the “problems” root back to the family, and this is only spoken of seriously in small circles that get absolutely nothing done.

Yours were undefined and I took them to mean the black race.
I, too, am tired of the entitlement mentality that some in this country have. I understand the frustration that comes with that, and sometimes I slip and group the whole lot together, instead of doing the proper thing and just address certain individuals within the group.
The point about trying to remedy the situation by fixing the root problems was not to have the government to help, but WE the people. WE need to be more active in our charitable activities. WE need to be involved in our communities to counteract the negative influences so prevalent in at risk communities.
It is not helpful to fuel the fire being stoked by those who claim the Right is racist by going on rants about how tired we are of feeding THEM, or giving THEM our job.
It is little wonder that some believe the Tea Party, Ron Paul supporters, or the Blaze readers are racist when comments like yours and others on here appear.
WE need to do a little better job at rising above the hatred and not going off the cliff with the rest of society.

But what if he posted that he got drunk every weekend and ran around with hookers? Is that grounds to fire him? As long as he’s not drunk at school with hookers I think no. If we are worried that a school employee (person in authority over minors) must ALWAYS be a good role model, in and outside of school, then the schools need to hire people to monitor all the social media for all employees’ posts. Either monitor them all or ignore them all. Unless they end up arrested for something they can get fired for, stay out of their personal lives.

Facts are hard to overcome, you either acknowledge them or you react like the biased teacher. Truth is not always pretty, but it is the truth. Perhaps you are right, perhaps neither side has truth/facts – I’m just trying to explain the difference.

And aware of the our janitorial police departments that only mop up the mess after the fact. I say arm the citizenry with the 2cd amendment and the freedom to use it without fear of police intimidation. Case you haven’t notice the police and justice department go harder against a legal gun owner protecting themselves than they do actual criminals. WHY IS THAT?
Here’s your clue If society figured out it could defend itself and that the police departments only job was to keep it fair(peace keeping)They’ld be out of work ina decade.
