Rabbi: Tebow Super Bowl Win Would Lead Christians to Burn Mosques & Banish Immigrants

The Tim Tebow debate took a bizarre turn this week when a Connecticut Rabbi wrote a scathing, Onion-like article for Jewish Week, a newspaper serving the Jewish community in New York City.

The piece, which was written by Rabbi Joshua Hammerman and seems more like a parody than a literal proclamation from a religious leader, claims that a Tebow Super Bowl win would lead to total and utter Christian-led chaos. And we’re not just talking angry football fans engaging in verbal outbursts — we’re talking mosque-burning hatred (among other purported antics).

Rabbi Says Tebow Super Bowl Win Will Lead to Mosque Burnings | Joshua Hammerman

A screen shot from the Tim Tebow article in "Jewish Week"

Hammerman, the head spiritual leader of Temple Beth El in Connecticut, leads the article by writing, “I’ve got a Tim Tebow problem.” After setting the 24-year-old football player up as “a poster boy of the Christian right,” Hammerman says, “Now tiny Tim has grown and is on track to possibly appear in this season’s Super Bowl – on the field – and that is what scares me.”

As the rabbi continues, he claims that the game of football is more popular than even God here in America (a point that many Americans would likely debate). His semi-lighthearted words quickly devolve. “When you combine the religion that is football with the religion that is religion, the mix can be dangerously flammable,” he writes.

Rabbi Says Tebow Super Bowl Win Will Lead to Mosque Burnings | Joshua Hammerman

Of course, he manages to slip in some leftist statements about Republican presidential candidates as well. He writes:

When supposedly well-educated candidates publicly question overwhelming scientific evidence on climate change and evolution and then gain electoral traction by fabricating conspiracies about a war on Christmas, these are not rational times.

Here’s where a bizarre turn is made. Hammerman writes that, should Tebow win the Super Bowl, the faithful (i.e. Christians) will “do insane things.“ The rabbi goes on to explain that a win would ”buoy [Tebow's] faithful” and lead to mosque burnings, gay bashing and the banishment of immigrants.

Yes, that’s correct: A legitimate religious leader contends that Tebow’s open faith and a subsequent Super Bowl win would lead to violence and discrimination. Here were his exact words:

If Tebow wins the Super Bowl, against all odds, it will buoy his faithful, and emboldened faithful can do insane things, like burning mosques, bashing gays and indiscriminately banishing immigrants.  While America has become more inclusive since Jerry Falwell’s first political forays, a Tebow triumph could set those efforts back considerably.

This commentary was so startling that the Blaze decided to hold off on writing about Hammerman’s article until we could speak with him further to verify his views. Unfortunately, he was unresponsive to e-mail and phone messages.

On Human Events, JWF writes, “It appears this Hammerman is merely a far-left crank who happens to be a rabbi. He diminishes the good work of non-political rabbis and pretty much anyone of faith. He should be ashamed.” Many on the right, it seems, agree.

Even Fox News’ Bob Beckel, hardly a conservative, slammed Hammerman’s views:

Ironically, Hammerman writes a column for Jewish Week entitled “Hammerman on Ethics.” Yes, ethics. As of Thursday morning, it appeared as though Jewish Week had removed the offensive piece.

On his blog, the rabbi confirmed that the article was removed, writing, “The piece has been taken down and I apologize to all those whom it has offended. Some additional reflections will be forthcoming. Thank you.”

We’ll be looking forward to seeing what these “reflections” will include.

      11. And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, {This happened in 70 A.D. when the Roman General Titus destroyed Jerusalem and burned the Jewish Temple.} and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, {This happened in 691 A.D. when the Dome of the Rock, a Muslim shrine, was built on the Temple Mount.} there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days. {The wise know that these “days” are years. So, 691 + 1,290 = 1981. What happened here on Earth in 1981? Not much that I know of. But my guess is that this is when Satan was cast out of Heaven. {Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! For the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time. Revelation 12:12}
      12. Blessed is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days. {Ok, 691 + 1,335 = 2026. No one knows the day or the hour, but, it looks, to me, that this is the year of the Second Coming, when Jesus returns, not as the Lamb of God, but, as the Lion of the Tribe of Judah. “Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel. Psalms 2:9.}
      13. But go thou way till the end be: for thou shalt rest, and stand in thy lot at the end of the days.

What is so unusual about paranoid rants like this coming from the Jewish community? I mean, these charges are similar to what Abe Foxman utters quite often.

All of it is anti-Christian hate that is quite common from one despicable hater or another by the Jewish fringe.

The disgusting Ben Stein screamed “anti-Semite” at Ron Paul for simply criticizing Israel.

This evil rhetoric needs to be cleaned up by the Jewish community. If it is not, they have no business claiming any kind of discrimination against themselves.

Its absolutely nothing but pure unadulterated hate speech, and if an apology isn’t forthcoming this disgusting Rabbi should be charged with a hate crime.

As an orthodox jew I can say that this “rabbi” DOES NOT represent jewish thought at all. First of all his saying that there is a problem with people who don’t take evolution on faith (because there really isn’t any evidence for it) is antithetical to Torah thought and understanding. The problem is that most conservative and reform jews (even their supposed rabbis) are uneducated as to the truths and beauty of the jewish religon as it has been practiced throughout the ages. Conservative and reform judaism are both man made versions of true judaism. Unfortunately they don’t accept or practice many of the basic tennets of judaism. Without being attached to the wisdom of the ages of the Torah and our sages this leads them astray o make really silly statements.

By their own words, they come across intolerant, bigoted, crude, and frankly, just plain crazy. There was a time when everyone let everyone else believe what ever. Now, Liberals just cannot help themselves, they just must denigrate anyone they can in the worst way possiblle. I do now believe it is a mental illness that is spreading like wildfire. They lack any shred of common sense and decency.

Some of this flippant language of God’s chosen people is rather worrisome. Remember what God said in Genisis. Considering what people have done in the name of Christ over the past 2 or so thousand years Jews have a right to be concerned over this Teebow craze. Remember God has chosen the Jews to rule the world and we are to bless them and protect them.. Sounds as if some of you have not been reading your Bibles or anti-semitism is spreading in America.

LANTZH: “The bible was written by men lady. Not GOD. The authours kid?”

      2 Timothy 3:16-17

16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

1 Corinthians was written by Paul. Paul said in Chapter 14: vs. 37 that the thing I write to you are the Lord’s commandment. The Holy Spirit spoke thru the prophets. The Word of God is God Breathed. God didn’t physically write it but used his people to write His message inspired by Him.

The Jews are God’s chosen people but sadly they do not recognize Christ as their Savior. They are still waiting for their Messiah when in fact He has already come. I love the Jewish people and pray their eyes will be opened to the truth.

Some rabbis and Jews are foolish. Some pastors and Christians are foolish. Some of every group are foolish.

Many Jews have a phobia–an unreasonable fear–of contemporary American Christianity, based on historical facts of their ancestors being persecuted by European Christians for centuries. Their mistake is not realizing that American Christians for the past many decades have been the most religiously tolerant and open-minded of any religious majority in any major country in history.

This particular rabbi who wrote the anti-Tebow column is, in my view, blind to the reality of current American Christianity…and really being extreme in his dark suspicions. Yes, there’s historical reason for his fears, but history on another continent is one thing, and here and now is another.

For the rest of us, I think it helpful to keep in mind that although many American Jews are fearful and critical of Christianity and conservatism, it’s also true that many leading conservative voices, who tend to be supportive of religious and Christian rights, are ethnically, and often religiously, Jewish, too. For just a few examples: Mark Levin, Charles Krauthammer, Michael Savage, and Mark Steyn, the Canadian guy who often fills in for Rush Limbaugh.

The word Christian is folded in with those who proclaim they are but are not. Protestant Christians and Catholics are not the same, so everyone can get off that horse it is dead.

America’s core beginning was Protestant Christians who are not anything like Roman/European Catholics, NOTHING LIKE. Only around 1400-1500 did you see the PROTESTANT Christian start to come alive. Who was the first? A Catholic priest named Martin Luther who found some original text the Pope had not been able to hide or burn.

We are Protestants because WE did not approve of the Popes teachings yes we rebelled against the Pope and Rome. England’s Queen ended the Catholic Inquisition and brought the first forms of faith liberation to England thus the world. The Protestants left to come establish America and we are a completely different people and moral background.

They used their pagan statues to establish Constantine’s’ little Roman band. The Inquisition murdered as many Christian’s descendants of the ORIGINAL Apostles teachings as they did anyone else.

Catholics and Christians are not the same people or group. The Catholics killed Christians and their Black Ops Crusaders are the ones that killed Muslims in the retake of Jerusalem. They are the ones that have killed Jews not Protestants.

The American Protestant Christian has helped even our enemies and more so the Jew than anyone on earth. The Jew is ready to take our Go

Wait, so lemme get this straight: 2+3+6=11? (11+11)/11+9=11 This, I know.

Seriously. You’re taking a tiny snippet of Revelation (Daniel too) which totals 3 and a half years, and is known as the Great Tribulation. You’re missing the first three and a half years (the Tribulation), the treaty with Israel that kicks off the Tribulation, the attack that is supposed to precede even that, *and* the math you put forth added up to 1981. The only thing that happened in ‘81 was that Reagan took office.

Unless you’re one of those “Ronald Reagan was the Anti-Christ because his first, middle, and last names all had 6 letters! 666!” kooks, 1981 means nothing at all.

How about this: rely on another part of the Bible: No man knows the day or the time. Don’t even go down the “My guess is…” road. Just stop.

If anyone has ever had a good reason to be paranoid that the world is out to exterminate them, it’s definitely the Jews, would you not agree?

That said, I *do* agree that some groups (among them are Jews, Catholics, and Mormons) overplay the “I’m being persecuted” card, sometimes. A critical word doesn‘t mean there’s hatred in the heart of the person speaking the word.

Now, while I disagree with the Ben Stein remark about Ron Paul being anti-semitic, you can;t disagree that Paul is in any way a friend to Israel. The guy has said he’d allow Iran to get the bomb. We all know what they’d do with it, and we all also know that if they got it and Israel was attacked, Paul would sit on his hands.

Bottom line: As it is said in Genesis, God will bless those who bless Israel and curse those who curse Israel. If you want to bear that, go ahead, me and my house will support Israel by not supporting Ron Paul.

Just some historical corrections. (Of course what this Rabbi said is idiotic.)

Martin Luther said some of the most vicious, literally unprintable, things anyone ever has said. He knew Judaism centers in the home, and said Jews should be kept in stables. He said that if a Jew was given to hin to be baptized, he would tie a rock around his neck and dump him in the river.

After the reformation, Catholics and Protestants equally persecuted (as in killed, despoiled, anything you can imagine) Jews. And of course the Orthodox Christians not only persecuted Jews, but in many cases deny they did anyhing wrong.

This is history. The US today is perhaps the least anti-semitic country in the world. I myself was the victim of quite a bit of anti-semitism (in NYC) in my youth, including a classmate who was murdered. In these cases it was Catholics; today it is more from Blacks, who are generally Protestant. But I appreciate the attempt of the Church to aplogize for its history, and the close relationship between Jews and Catholics in New York. I appreciate that evangelical Protestants (well, many of them) are Israel’s best friends, and that many in both groups are trying to do something about the horrible moral decline of the American legal system, especially the Abortion holocaust.

Liberal Christian and Jewish theology are remarkably similar, which is why they keep on trying to force it on the rest of us. As for myself, my Dad taught me that we are better off in a religious co

Please tell me the last time you saw Christians burning mosques and banishing immigrants, Rabbi? If you will cast your mind back, I think it was during the Crusades, in the 11th, 12th & 13th centuries. That’s quite a stretch there, Rabbi. I think Christians will just rejoice with Tebow and congratulate him, and maybe praise God that a faithful young man has been successful because of, not in spite of, his faith.

USA Today tells a little more of the story: It explains that Jewish Week apologized in a statement on its website Thursday. The apology adds:

“Rabbi Hammerman is a respected spiritual leader and longtime Jewish Week columnist whose writing over the years has been exemplary. This column, however, was more inciting than insightful, and we erred in posting it, which we deeply regret. ”

“Rabbi Hammerman also apologizes to Tebow in a statement reading:
“I have spent my entire career engaged in dialogue with people of all faiths while speaking out passionately against intolerance and extremism. I have the deepest respect for those who are committed to their faith, including Mr. Tebow. I realize the way in which I attempted to make my points was clumsy and inappropriate, calling to mind the kind of intolerance and extremism my article was intended to disparage. I sincerely apologize to Mr. Tebow, his family, the Broncos and Patriots and all those whom I may have offended.”
“Hammerman’s column was posted Dec. 14 — and yanked from the site the same day”

It comes down to this: The guy wrote some offensive and idiotic things, the website yanked them the same day, and the guy apologized for them almost immediately, too. He still deserves to be roundly criticized–as he was even by his own paper. But if only all people who make idiotic and offensive statements apologized for their inappropriateness almost immediately…we would have a far better society.

‘If anyone has ever had a good reason to be paranoid that the world is out to exterminate them, it’s definitely the Jews, would you not agree?’

No. There is no justification for paranoia. Caution, yes, but there are too many leftist Jews who are so paranoid they see a white supremacist behind every tree, and also, they have some distorted idea that only Jews have suffered persecution.

“Now, while I disagree with the Ben Stein remark about Ron Paul being anti-semitic, you can;t disagree that Paul is in any way a friend to Israel.”

Paul is as he should be: A protector and promoter of the United States. He doesn’t believe protecting Israel is in the best interests of the US and says so. I believe the same. It has nothing to do with being a friend or enemy to anybody.

“Bottom line: As it is said in Genesis, God will bless those who bless Israel and curse those who curse Israel. If you want to bear that, go ahead, me and my house will support Israel by not supporting Ron Paul.”

Sorry, but I don’t subscribe to the notion that a universal deity cares one whit more about Israel than he does about anybody else. If there is a deity, he’s non-partisan. Of that I’m positive.

I’m glad we are seeing Jewish Americans coming over to the rght, but I’m disappointed to see so many still in the radical leftist camp, like those in Hollywood and the media.

OKLAHOMAMIKE said: “It comes down to this: The guy wrote some offensive and idiotic things, the website yanked them the same day, and the guy apologized for them almost immediately, too. He still deserves to be roundly criticized–as he was even by his own paper.”

Sorry, OKLAHOMAMIKE, but no, it does not come down to “that”. It comes down to “The Jewish Week” is now being read by us Goyim as well as its regular Jewish audience. This is due as much to The Great Whitey Awakening that is taking place as it is due to the Internet making heretofore obscure journals available to the general public as well as the niche audiences that they are designed to serve. You don’t just ACCIDENTALLY accuse an entire FAITH of being two steps away from monstrous behavior by accident. This was not a little slip of the tongue. This was not even a Freudian slip. This was the genuine sentiment of a Rabbi about the Goyim spoken when that Rabbi thought that no Goyim were listening. Stop making excuses for enemies of Jesus Christ. It can only mean one of two things: 1. You are a LYING shill for ZOG or 2. You are too foolish to see the TRUTH.

MUSLIMS do NOT worship the GOD of ABRAHAM . They are a cult of Satan begun 700 years after Christianity….taking bits and pieces from OLD and NEW TESTAMENTS in hopes that they can control their people like they felt the Christians and Jews were “controlling” their people but didn’t get it (how this was being done). They thought that threatening death is how Christians and Jews controlled their “people”… they didn’t get it about LOVE, LOVING GOD, LOVING CHRIST, Learning from GOD and CHRIST and wanting to be the person God Created.
GOD wants us because we “GET HIM” and we want to come to Him….the opposite of what Muslims do. GOD named the JEWS His chosen people in part, I think, because he wanted us to NOTICE the vast differences between people who Believe in HIM and those being used by Satan. WHY this RABBI chooses to engage these people in an attempt to “communicate with them’ eschewing Christians is amazing to me. THEY do NOT want to be friends, Rabbi…they want to kill all of us. What part of that can’t you get? PS: YOU ghouls don’t get to come after TEBOW, not this time, not now… THE LINE is DRAWN in the sign. LEAVE this DECENT, TALENTED, GOOD young man alone. YOU don’t like him? Don’t watch….but you don’t get to do the typical Media Smear on this young man. Radical muslims are out killing jews and christians TODAY but this clown is worried about some insane scenario about what christians might do if Tebow wins the super bowl?

      1) If his priority is saving jewish lives then maybe he should concentrate on dealing with radical muslims… or does he honestly want to suggest that jews are in greater danger from christians than muslims?
      2) Jesus was a jew. Christians know this. Most christians realize that God loves Israel. Most christians love Israel.
      3) Is he really trying to make a connection between football and church? Really?

Ok ok…. I admit it…. the portion of christians that are anti-semitic, big football fans AND big Denver fans with a tendency to merge their fanaticism for church, football and antisemitism…. MIGHT increase their level of antisemetism if Tebow wins the super bowl. So if Tebow goes to the super bowl I guess we should identify all ten of these people and keep an eye on them….

PATTY HENRY, a lot of misinformation.
Factually, there are 3 Abrahamic religions, and Islam is one. The Sun is hot. That’s a fact.

Fact, Jews did kill to control their people. The most obvious case would be the killing of the Galilean from Nazareth. His name was Jesus. That was not love, or love of God, as you state.

Fact, God did not name Jews his chosen people. He named the descendents of Abram his chosen people. Most Jews today are not the descendents of Abram. Most were converts from Khazaria, converts for secular reasons:

So try reading it again. I never said JEWS kill people. I said: MUSLIMS believe the only way they can keep people under control is to threaten death. CHRISTIANS and JEWS don’t do that. GOD doesn’t want that. HE wants people to come to Him of their own volition.

THEN: JESUS came to die. STUDY WHY. NO one “KILLED HIM”…He came to die.

THEN: THE DESCENDENTS of ISAAC are the CHOSEN PEOPLE. (ISAAC being son of ABRAHAM when his name was ABRAHAM. GOD knows who they are, where they migrated to. This is NOT RE: Ishmael who’s descendents are (loved but) not considered inheritors of this covenant . NONE of that negates the fact that ISLAM is not from the GOD OF ABRAHAM. Jesus had to die to end the blood offering and bring Salvation and He did. He healed the Hebrew Priests ear to prove that point.
History shows the dead came out of their graves that day and walked among their friends and neighbors. The Curtain was torn in into so man could go to the throne boldly by themselves.

He preached to those that died up to and including the flood while he was supposed to be in the tomb. all those that believed were saved.
You still have a chance if you dont die. He will not offer that again, those that have heard the Gospel, the good news and deny it have no more options, no more freebies

@ Kimberly. Perhaps you are a little bit ignorant of history. Your comments about G-d burning down our synagigues is especially offensive and is what leads people like the rabbi to fear christians. Like it or not for most of the past 2000 years christianity has a particuliarly bad record when it comes to the treatment of jews in the diaspora. We are only 70 years out from the holocaust, where for the most part jews were killed by christians. and most of the sunagogues of eastern Europe were burned to the ground.
That being said. Jews do very much appreciate the freedom to practice our religon that we have in America. Mostly in the diaspora we were forced into ghettos and were many times over killed for being jewish or forbidden from practicing our faith and worshipping G-d.
Unfortunately many jews carry the history of the past with them and have a fear of an overly zealous Church going back to the practices of the past.
Personally I’m more worried about militant atheism because without G-d there can be no true morals.
But please I respect your right to believe in Jesus if that helps to bring you closer to G-d and doing his will. You should respect my right to not believe in Jesus and to do G-ds will in the ways of my forefathers for the past 3500 years.

Although I believe this particular rabbi is way off base in his fears of contemporary American Christians, it is ironic and sort of proving his point, when someone says in response to his fears that God will burn his synagogue down!

I think in this case what we have is an overly Christian-phobic rabbi, and now an overly Jewish-phobic Christian commenter. Most American Jews and Christians neither believe nor say that Christians will create hateful chaos if a Christian football player wins, nor do they go around saying or believing that God will burn synagogues.

Last time I checked many my extended family and countrymen died fighting Hitler. Many of us also died fighting other European tyrants, King George included.

Last time I checked, America welcomed and welcomes Judaism to worship freely. Yes, we could have done better at welcoming Jewish Immigrants. The Irish, the Italians, and any other numbers of groups each had a tough time in their new country too.

My ancestors who settled Utah had a pretty tough time in a new land too. We were persecuted in many ways and still, America (with all its faults and good point), is the land that protects my religion. Both football loving Americans and Judaism are facing a new existential threat in the form a nuclear Iran AND a radical militant Islam.

So, where’s the problem here? The Rabbi is quite justly concerned with a irrational people doing irrational things.

First of all, Jews have never used crucifiction as a form of punishment, that is a well known fact. So Jews did not crucify anyone.
Second if you believe that Christ died for your sins as your religon tells you then whoever it was that did crucify him actually did a good thing for the world by having him die for YOUR sins. (how exactly someone dying 2000 years ago can atone for your sins doesn’t seem to make much sense but hey if you belive it and it makes you a better person then good for you)
Third As for his blood being on my hands well that doesn‘t make any sense unless you would like to also take responsibility for the millions of jews that were killed in Jesus’s name over the ages.
Fourth. If you believe Jesus is G-d then you must also believe that G-d is mortal and can be killed based on your accusation that Jesus who you believe is G-d was killed by my forefathers so I guess you are an atheist because you believe that G-d is dead (G-d forbid of course) but hey you keep using excuses to hate jews.
Fifth: According to my forefathers who you can‘t quote because you don’t have the oral tradition of my faith Jesus was a person of little consequence. What people did in his name however well some good but you gotta admit some bad.
Sixth: the messiah is not the savior of the world he is the redeemer of the jews (check your old testament the one that was written by prophets) and since the Jews weren’t redeemed by Jesus I find it hard to think he is the mes

Of course when we say study the talmud we mean in the original aramaic and hebrew. And which of the hundreds of commentators to you use to understand the Talmud when you read it? I have been studying it for 20 years and use many commentators. Of course you asking me if I read it I must assume you know it well so tell me what are the ways to do kiddushin? How is bishul performed? Who is older tosafot or rashi? Now if you know none of this then you having an opinion on the Talmud is as legitimate as a 2 year old having an opinion on nuclear physics and string theory.
Eighth: No i don’t read the Kabbalah . There is no such book in judaism called the Kabbalah. There is a study of Kabbalah that comes from a certain set of books can you tell me the name of the set? If not then once again you are unqualified to give an opinion. despite my years of studying the Talmud and The bible I am still not qualified to understand it. Any Kabbalah being presented to the masses is not true Kabbalah.
By the way here is a question for you. Do you study the new testament? Maybe you can tell me how many years after Jesus was it written? Who wrote it? You should study your own religon get closer to G-d and stop your blind hatred for Jews.

Now, All that being said. I think the rabbis comments were dumb. I think in this country especially jews have had the most freedom to worship than we’ve had in 2000 years of diaspora. And i appreciate it. I think my fellow citizens for the most part are a blessing. And I respect their right to worship and love G-d in any way that gives them peace.
But please do not malign all jews for the comment of one. And please respect our right to worship G-d as we see fit. And I don’t tell me I am a sinner for not accepting Jesus as my lord. Jews have miraculously survived for 2,000 years as a small persecuted minority of the world. It is only withG-ds grace that we are still in existence.
We appreciate America and May G-d Bless America with prosperity, peace, and success.

      Mgindi,

If I may offer something that Jesus himself said about his sacrifice and whether or not the Romans or the Jews put him to death.

At John 10:17-18, he said “This is why the Father loves me, because I surrender my soul, in order that I may receive it again. 18 No man has taken it away from me, but I surrender it of my own initiative. I have authority to surrender it, and I have authority to receive it again. The commandment on this I received from my Father.””
So Jesus’ death was not a murder, it was a sacrifice, to redeem mankind from the sin we all have inherited due to the original sin of Adam (and Eve).

Anyone who would reject that gift is disrespecting God’s arrangement for our salvation. Something to think about, no?

      @ Bear
Well I’m not sure exactly what you meant by your post it could be readt 2 ways.
      1. It could be read that you are basically telling KADAMS that according to her own scripture Jesus wasn’t murdered but rather gave his life willingly and that the neither the Jews nor the Romans bear any responsibility for his death.
      or
      2. You are using that quote to say that as a Jew who does not believe in Jesus I am rejecting a gift from G-d and am disrespecting G-ds arrangement for salvation.
To answer that I would say that verses in the new testament bear no meaning to my religon at all. As a Jew we have what you would call the old testament, as well as the oral tradition handed down from Sinai and codified in the writings of our sages.
We also believe that G-d is omnipotent and omniesent. meaning he know all and does all. As such where we have a clear commandment not to believe a “prophet” that contradicts the Torah. By saying that the laws of kosher for instance, or of the Sabbath, or that he does not blame the son for the sin of the father (or Adam and Eve the parents of the human race ) or the festivals or any of the other laws have changed would mean that G-d is fickle and didn’t know that Israel would sin and that He would have to have his people cast into a diaspora. But as He said we are the eternal people. Which is why beyond any logic the Jew has survived for 2000 years with no land and plenty of persecution. But I still respect the Christians who belive in the 1

@Migindi – Responding to unreasonable remarks does nothing to support your position. Citing that in the holocaust “for the most part jews were killed by christians” is a bald-faced lie. And thousands of Rabbi’s and historians agree with me. Stating that KimberlyJesus’s statements are offensive to you, then stating Christians are the killers in the holocaust is the height of hypocrisy.
Your remarks sound rather forgiving to a so-called Rabbi Hammerman who is an obvious unhinged leftist creating his own hatred toward Christians.
I very much respect your right to practice your faith, but please label Christians as responsible for Hitler’s holocaust.

The industry is not an inanimate object. It is people. These people, not because I say so, but because they say so:

It’s very simple, Boom. It‘s called ’righteous indignation’. “Be ye angry, and sin not”.

Christians read and study the Bible. We understand that a lot of what they rail against, is against the will of God. We don’t do it for personal gratification, or even personal justice, for ‘Vengeance is mine, saith the LORD’… We can only pray and hope that the LORD allows them to see the truths as they are made evident. “If ye follow me, then are ye my disciples in deed, and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.” We know the truth… the Holy Spirit indwelling makes that evident. People who haven‘t accepted Christ can’t even BEGIN to know what it’s like, having that Spirit constantly there, guiding us, teaching us.

@KAdams – Wow, was that ever a self-righteous comment. Try the below scripture on for size. They are from the King James version of the Bible, and contradict your justification for “righteous indignation” and the constant companionship of the Spirit in my book.

      Galatians 5:22-25
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is clove, joy, epeace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
24 And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
26 Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.

Love does not provide methods of control. Hate allows for control through direction. It’s much easier to convince people to give up their freedom and liberty to defeat a hated enemy. If you wish the people to give themselves over to the System, nothing motivates like fear, anger, and hate. ((hrmm, am I channeling Yoda again?))
Love accepts. The Way is Love. Not the pseudo-emotion that makes people feel they are ‘more’ than others, but the genuine feeling that ALL men/women are created equal. The sure knowledge that loving yourself and your creator is as much import as loving your neighbor as if he was yourself.
If you wish to direct the people as a mass you need a target, and for that you need hate. There is no place in that ideological mindset for true acceptance and forgiveness. Therefore, Christ has no place in their worldview.
Just as men have twisted historical facts to suit their political agenda so too have men twisted religion.
To the non-believing reader: Look back at every example of alleged Christians behaving in a decidely anti-Christ fashion. Then compare their actions to Christ’s teachings ((New Testament)) Do this, and you will understand. If you choose not to check for yourself, my explaining it would be merely, ‘he said, she said.’ Anyway, I’m done. Ya’ll have fun.

@Matthewhester: You’re correct that this particular rabbi is out of touch with the inclinations of the great majority of contemporary American Christians.

But it also sounds like you may not be aware of the terrible history–over many long centuries–of Christian hate and persecution, especially of Jews, in Europe. This particular rabbi is apparently a crackpot, but his wildly exaggerated fears do have a small basis in truth.

Even though the Christianity you know focuses on love, the simple facts of history are that Christianity, not only its laypeople, but its clergy and highest religious leaders, including many popes and even Martin Luther, were time and time again openly in favor of persecuting, even banishing, non-Christians–and yes, burning down their houses of worship, too.

For this rabbi to fear such things happening in today’s America–especially in reaction to Tim Tebow winning–is a little nuts. But anyone who knows their history would not be so naive as to be astonished at how people could possibly fear that Christianity might spawn intolerance and violence.

Just pathetic; another lib hating on a God-fearing human being–a saved, God-fearing human being. Rock on Tebow–Broncos rule and we in Colorado love ya man!

That’s insane. Christians don‘t believe that God is a Bronco’s fan, and whatever happens with Tebow it won’t make a difference. Christians are not violent, but there are those that are violent towards Christians.

You took the words right out of my mouth. The rabbi evidently needs to study the teachings of Jesus. I admire Tebow for his boldness and courage in thanking God for His great works and His protection.

I will quote from the “rabbi”’s blog: “This Sunday, I’ll be a guest speaker at St Francis Episcopal Church on Long Ridge Rd., discussing Jewish views of the Messiah. Their service begins at 10 AM, and guests are welcome.”

Left-wing Jews, Left-wing Christians. Same religion.

The Jewish Week is not exactly friendly to the Orthodox Jewish community, believe me. And that stuff stays up.
