‘Racist’: Southern Miss. Band Chants ‘Where’s Your Green Card?’ at Opposing Player During NCAA Tournament

During Thursday’s second round of the NCAA Tournament, Southern Miss. played Kansas St. And while Kansas St. did win by six points, the actual game was overshadowed by a chant coming from the Southern Miss. band near the end of the first half: members shouted “Where’s your green card?” at a Hispanic member of Kansas St.

The chant, which is faint but noticeable, was directed at Angel Rodriguez while he was at the free-throw line:

Once CBS blogger said the chant involved about 10 students. Other outlets noted the entire thing was “racist.”

Southern Miss. President Martha Saunders issued an apology after the game.

“We deeply regret the remarks made by a few students at today’s game,” she said. “The words of these individuals do not represent the sentiments of our pep band, athletic department or university. We apologize to Mr. Rodriguez and will take quick and appropriate disciplinary action against the students involved in this isolated incident.”

Adding insult to injury: according to Yahoo sports, Saunders’s initial statement referred to Rodriguez as “Rodriquez.”

Additionally, Yahoo notes that Rodriguez is from Puerto Rico, a U.S. territory, and therefore wouldn’t need a green card.

First build the wall at the borders. Enforcing the immigration laws is like bailing water out of a ship with a hole on the bottom. Fix the hole first, then bail out the water.

Racism is the result of small minded thinking. Let them squabble for petty differences, pathetic reason, with absolute ignorance. They offer no contribution to humanity and yet they site themselves as just. It’s embarrassing to us all as a species.

Racism is an opinion. For example “blacks hating whites” is not racism…why? Because society is brainwashed to believe that. A black man can hate me because I am white and I do not want to force him to accept me…that is wrong. I’d rather know that someone is racist “up front” instead of finding out years later after entrusting my life to that person. Be open, be honest so I can see the real you…if you’re a racist, fine. That‘s your opinion and you’re entitled to it. Stop with the PC BS and let people like/dislike whom they want….

Racism is not an “opinion” it is an object, tangible; like a moving cancer eating its way through our society. You are welcome to your “opinions” about racism, but that does not in any way shape or form downgrade its presence or its destructiveness. Any feeble attempt to pacify the existence of racism only makes it more appalling and grotesque.

“We call things racism just to get attention. We reduce complicated problems to racism, not because it is racism, but because it works.” — Alfredo Gutierrez, political consultant, as quoted by Richard de Uriarte, The Phoenix Gazette, March 14, 1992 (quoted in The ProEnglish Advocate, 1st quarter, 2002).
“dubbing inconvenient truths as being a racist, is more poisonous to the ones calling it racism, than the ones being called racists because the ones screaming racism, are inconvenienced by the truths spoken!”

Agreed. Here in HI, they have a long standing tradition of “Kill Haole (whites) Day” (last day of school, and they mean it, and it was brought to us by “progressives”). There’s also a popular bumper sticker here that reads: “I Grew Here, You Flew Here. Now, Go Home.” ALOHA!

wow, I would have love to see what they would have done to my college pep-band…the best games were making the girl teams cry…oh what fun… Making fun of skin color, looks, names, height, weight, sex, sexual orientation, you name it – it was not off limits to our imagination. We did anything and everything, that 40+ people could yell in unison, to get into the players head. One very famous year we made the coach cry, THE COACH…she tried to get us kicked out but the general response to her complete…tough sh__ , you should just worry about the game…granted this story is more about outside complaining but whats the difference…

Everything is racist to the radical extremist press and pin headed academics.

That’s all this country talks about, complains about, and concentrates on constantly without let up.

This is racist. That is racist. Better watch out that could be a racist comment. On and on and on and on. Blacks are TOTALLY consumed with everything and anything about race, and the rest of the country who fall for the brainwashing parrot the same thing.

The BIG PROBLEM with this society is not racism, but multiculturalism. Nothing else can really get done, because political correctness involving racism dictates the narrative.

A lot of pepole are aware enough to see that it is pluralism itself that is the real problem, not racism. Without multiculturalism there would be no need to occupy all this time on deciding what is racist and what isn’t.

Homogeneous societies are the only ones that work harmoniously and the only ones that will last through the tough times. The Chinese and Japanese know that. If you told them they need diversity to make them strong, they’d laugh in your face, because they can not only see what it has done to the West, they have enough sense to know it doesn’t work and always fails.

The elites try to prevent civil war from happening by brainwashing the majority ethnicity into thinking they’re haters and/or racists if they speak out against multiculturalism intimidating them into silence.

And, it has worked fine for those who are easy to

It’s not a free speech story, it’s not an apology story. It’s a stupidity story. It is a bigot story. It shows how quick some people are to jump to ethnic judgement. The kid was playing a basketball game and he’s met with jeers about his citizenship? All the while he’s as American as any of those Mississippi kids. This is what we get when we tolerate groups like the tea-party and the Arizona legislature who want people judged initially by their apparent ethnicity. In Arizona, this sort of ignorance and bigotry is the law.
